    "part of the learning process included rebuilding the head with the wrong kind of grease" and that's exactly why I'm here hahah, I used a silicone one at first but it turned out horrible. Thanks for the vid mate it was very helpful.

    Excellent job. Thanks! My tripod with Bogen 3047 has been in the closet for 5 years. Time to clean it and put it to use.

      Thanx, Paul. I'm glad you found the video useful.
      Funny....I just picked up another Bogen 3047 on eBay for pretty cheap. I can't believe how unruly this head is. Getting smooth pans or tilts is literally impossible. I may have to do another video about the Bogen 3047. This one will do a side-by-side comparison of the rebuilt vs. non-rebuilt. The post-rebuild difference is astounding.

    Excellent video! It was just what I needed. I had bought two used bogen tripods with bogen heads from ebay a year ago and they looked almost in mint condition but the heads on them were a bit jerky. Obviously they need to be cleaned and greased. Thanks for this video!

    I have several 3047 heads with pinch bolts that are stuck/tight. No matter how hard I try to untwist them to loosen the bolts, they do not unscrew. Any way to dissemble these in a way where I can loosen the pinch bolts and grease them? Much thanks! :-)

    Thank you! Question though. I live where it’s cold in the winter, mostly for my birding scope. I used it a few days ago, and the tilt was very hard to move, harder than I remember it being, which is why I searched for a video to re-grease. I tend to leave the tripod in my car. Now, with it in the house and warmed up, it’s working ok. Would re-greasing help, and would the type of grease be different in cold conditions? Mine is about 30+ years old, and shamefully has never been cleaned.

    • @drummerdonniedotcom
      @drummerdonniedotcom  4 года назад +2

      Cold weather is naturally going to "stiffen" the grease, thus making your tripod harder to move. To answer your question, yes, rebuilding the head should help. But you should NOT use the grease recommended in my video. You should use a much lighter grease. If you call the number in the Description area, Tom can recommend and sell you a lighter version of the grease I used. Truth be told, if I were shooting in cold weather and warm weather, I would be tempted to have a warm weather head and a cold weather head.
      I hope this helps. Let me know what you decided to do and how it works out. I'm very curious to know.

    one question, how do you re-attach the angle disks onto the tripod, if they were to become loose or fall off?

    • @drummerdonniedotcom
      @drummerdonniedotcom  3 года назад

      Hey Andy. Sorry...I'm not sure what you mean by "angle disks." Keep in mind that I don't rebuild camera heads for a living. I just own this particular head and it was in desperate need of a rebuild, so I may this video. Sorry I can't be of more help.

      @@drummerdonniedotcom what I meant was the plate you removed to access the screw holding the pan axis of the head to the tripod mounting @4:07 ( you called them 'stickers' in the video); I have Autism, so I called it that as they have the angles on them to position the pan axis, the "head" has the pointer on it, on these tripod heads, and I am a bit ocd when it comes to naming things correctly, the "sticker" you show being removed, is the one that has come loose on mine.

    • @drummerdonniedotcom
      @drummerdonniedotcom  3 года назад

      @@andyvan5692 Hey Andy. Okay...I understand your question now. I wish I had a super cool answer for you, but I don't. On my stand, I simply left the sticker off (which is made of plastic, so technically not a "sticker" per-se, but not really a "plate" either). In the event that I wanted to replace it, I would probably use double-sided tape. Not that super thick 3M type, but maybe carpet tape or some other thin-ish double-sided tape. I imagine Manfrotto probably sells the stickers OR maybe even the double-sided, form-fitting round tape that originally came with the stand. I wish I had a better answer. Sorry.

    Frank- good time of the day! I think you can adjust any pen
    - or sawing the handle and insert a beautiful - tube.
    the main thing is that there should be an elongation up to 2.5 times possible
    compare in the Amazon - expensive pen and handle video chip heads.

    great video, I have just got a manfrotto 074 tripod with an 029 head, this looks simmilar to this head, BUT has the longer gear shaped handles, same hex qr plate, and axis controls, so great for refference on this head too.

    Why are you attempting to make a 3 way photography head, into a fluid video head?

    • @drummerdonniedotcom
      @drummerdonniedotcom  4 года назад

      Cost. Fluid heads are very expensive. These Bogen heads can be found on eBay for around 30 bucks. So for a mere fraction the cost, one can get darn close to the performance of a fluid head.

    • @mbsevans
      @mbsevans 4 года назад

      Donnie Frank nope. Fluid heads, at the level you require, are not very expensive. I have used a few. 😉 But I do think you’re a bit of a clown for not specifying what the grease is you used, within the video, rather you chose to play games.

    • @drummerdonniedotcom

      @@mbsevans: This set up is on par with a *good* fluid head, and will outperform a *cheap* fluid head. • @drummerdonniedotcom
      @drummerdonniedotcom  6 лет назад +1

      As long as the head isn't physically damaged or corroded beyond repair, a simple rebuild should make it work as new and on par with most fluid heads costing hundreds. I've yet to compare my Bogen 3047 side-by-side to a fluid head, but dollars to doughnuts, it would fare well.
      I hope this helps.
