    Are you in my home? Just a few days ago, I did some research to find out how to identify needles. I failed miserably. And, here today you are giving me the answers. Thank you. You are a saint! ♥️

    Great video Pippa, I have star needles in my stash, but never looked at them up close like that. You never fail to improve my knowledge on everything lol xx

      They are unusual but quite tricky to actually see, my phone videoed them quite well considering how tiny they are xx

      So many people ask me so it's absolutely normal, wouldn't it be great if all the companies had the same colours, thanks for watching x

    I was waiting for this video for so long and now I can happilly say that I ordered correct needles for my feltng needs♥. I also want to say a few thing that would be good to mension in the future " how to achieve the ultimate smooth finish" video:
    1)the size of the felt is VERY important. When I felt items that are less than ~10 cm (half a palm) the induvidual strands are more visible even with smallest needle finish and it's especialy easy to see them in photos. Also felts with cartoony proportions can seem to be small in a photo but are usually bigger than it seems and this can decieve felters of how smooth finish can be at which scale.
    2)Also PE(polyethylen) foam boards/films are great if felters use polyurethane (PUR) foam as their needle felting mat. The PUR mat cathches the fibers and can easily undone smooth finish so the smoother PE board placed on top can prevent it.
    Anyway take care of yourself ❤and in meantime I'll be binge-watching all you videos all over again 😄

      Thank you and yes, smalls felts are definitely harder to appear smooth, tops can help but very time consuming, thanks for watching and you won't go wrong with Heidifeathers needles x

    • @feltsbyphilippa
      @feltsbyphilippa  2 года назад

      I do have a video on my suppliers and what I purchase where, it's under the technical playlist. I tend to reserve my Highland Cow colours for my PDF's and courses as it took me a while to get the colours correct, glad you liked the video x

    I ordered needles on amazon because I am just starting. They are colour coded but did not come with anything to say what the colours mean. Also the as I used them the colour has chipped off. I think I need to invest in some better needles. Thank you for the video and I am looking forward to the finishing video as that has also been an issue for me.

    • @feltsbyphilippa

      See if the original advert on Amazon had an colour code details but apart from that it's by look and feel, thanks for watching and working on the next video! X

    I love my Heidi feathers needles!! They are the best I've used. However when I got my mixed selection I didn't get a postcard :( so kind of guess what I've got.

      Go to their website under felting guide and needles and it's all listed there but judging by feel is a good way to learn too. I do love their needle selection and pretty fast delivery too, thanks for watching x

    The only ones I could find where I live was a little set that seems like there should’ve been a mark of what size they are, but no one marked them. And they’re all the same.
    Looking at the ones you showed, it seems like I ended up getting rather small ones. Like, maybe 40 or 42? But there’s no way I can know for sure just by looking

      It's tricky by eye unless you are familiar with needles, best way is using them as I show in the video x

    Hi Philippa, could you review needle felting materials from the 1 dollar store? There aren’t a lot of needle felting shops in where i live, so I usually get them from there. Thank you! (the brand i get is called Daiso)

    Hello! Thank you for the video. I have a question: I'm used to triangle and star needles, but I've never used a spiral one. What purpose do they serve? I find it that stars are good to begin a piece with and also shape them faster, and triangles for general felting, attaching and finishing.

    • @feltsbyphilippa
      @feltsbyphilippa  2 года назад +3

      Spirals are excellent for finishing, they give a lovely smooth finish but a 40 spiral is similar to a 42 triangular, not much difference between them x
