Great video! I got my needles from Heidifeathers too and they are great, have been using the same needle for almost 10 years and it's still fantastic! It's 38 triangle and I bought a few in case they break as some people said needles will break but so far mine lasted for years!😅 Number 34 and 44...are felting needles invented by the Chinese?🤔If they are, then the 4 means death and 3 means life. So, 44 is double death so it's terrible especially for a needle!😂 and 34 is life and death which I guessed you can't mix life and death together, it's bad!😳. Well, maybe it's another reason after all...😅💜
I think you really must have found the reason why 34 and 44 don't exist. Absolutely no one else I have asked knows why and it absolutely could be because of superstition, I am very grateful for your theory, thank you. Yes, I have several needles that has lasted years so a good quality needle is definitely worth it, thanks for watching and commenting, really appreciate it 😀 xx
@@MyzMyzterious32 Yep, 10 years🥰. China can make a lot of things, cheap with bad qualities, business comes first and quality doesn’t matter! But to think about it, things from China are cheap so do expect quality to be “cheap” too!😅.
Thanks for lesson in needles extremely important few felters on you tube explaine like you it's so basic and the foundation to the craft after explaining wool so kind understanding of beginners we need more felters like you for sharing there craft huge difference it makes knowing the needles xx
Thank you so much Philippa for ALL your videos and advice. Since starting needle felting about 3years ago its taken me awhile to get used to the different needles, but I have learned to only buy them at Heidifeathers as they are so helpful and informative with their colour coding and the little card explaining what they all are. Thanks again.
This is wonderful ive been using the triangle needles haven't tried the others i just started needle felting and loving it im thinking of something to do for my next project your vedio's help me know more about felting im watching other felting creator too thank you for this vedio
I found this video very interesting and useful. Most of all I liked the closeups because you could see what the tips look like and realise how they perform in the felting. Unfortunately it is difficult to buy these specialist needles in Sweden. There is plenty of very good wool here though.
Thank you, luckily my phone can do close ups and I find it really helps to actually see what I am talking about. It's fantastic you have good wool as this can be harder to source in Europe, thanks for watching and commenting ☺️ x
i am quite new to felting from experimenting i found out that for me triangle are best for starting while stars for finishing i have no try yet finer triangle needles i only have bigger at the moment so this is definitely going into my wishlist
@@feltsbyphilippa yeah i am currently working at my fist ever felt sculptures a medium felted bunny that's 89% done and a hard felted goat that's 40% done and before watching your video i though i made a big mistake of felting it to hard since the head is so hardly felted and i thoght i couldn't felt the color on when in actually i just had to swich to spiral 😅 also forks sound really interesting i love drawing girly creatures with long eyelashes and elaborate long crests/manes/hair so the thought of doing such characteristics on my wool sculptures is really exciting

Tysm! Ive been wondering about different needles. Im a beginner and bought supplies on Amazon to see if i liked it. I bought multiple needles because ive broke so many. I was just looking last night to buy a felting mat as i got the crappy white foam. I will see if i can make one 1st. Definitely have wondered how to get smooth. Im ocd and cant stand the few items ive done having so much fuzz.

I'm afraid it's specific to each company so if they send you the codes it's important to keep it safe. You can check on their websites to, thanks for watching x
42 tri is my fave for everything. Can you tell me why they don’t have the shape and size stamped on at manufacture. I have a set of everything coming from Heidifeathers all the way to Australia.
Micron is the thickness of a strand of wool, the lower it is the thinner the wool and the longer it may take to felt if it is not carded. 28 micro is an average thickness so will be ok, merino wool is about 19 micron so quite fine and fluffy, still useable but best to card it a bit first.
People with joint issues can experience difficulties with needle felted. I got muscle pain, all discussed in this video x ruclips.net/video/WTlM4ufIfNU/видео.html
Hi Philippa, great video, really helped clear up the confusion. I was wondering if you could suggest where to get a 42 Crown Needle? I've searched amazon and only found whole sets of needles. Thank you!
Thanks for the great video. I have so.e needles that I bought online, and included are 36 Guage and 40 Guage "Cone Felting Needles" Any idea how they are used? None of the videos I watch seem to mention them! Thanks!
Great video! Thank you so much for sharing your information and taking the time to demonstrate the needles. I'm learning so much from you! 😘
Glad you like it, thanks for watching x
Truly, this is a great tutorial for felting. Thank you so much for describing the needles in such detail. I've learned so much.

Very educational. Can you suggest needles to punch in woven fabric
I would go with a 36 or a 32 depending on the thickness of the linen. If they stab in easily then go finer xx
I used to make reborn dolls and used the crown and a forked needle for rooting hair. Just got my felting supplies in and can not wait to start.
Brilliant, hope you enjoy it xx

Good afternoon mam
I need to know what microns of merino wool top to buy
I have replied to your other message x
Can I make a mat without wet felting? Just needle felting?
And thank you for again a wonderful video. ❤️
Yes you can but it takes a lot of needle felting and may not be as firm but definitely possible x
Thank you.😘❤️
Thanks Helena x
Really useful info - thanks.
Thanks, glad you liked it x
Mam I need to know what is the difference between 21 micron and 28 micron, what will happen when I use 21 micron or 28
Micron is the thickness of a strand of wool, the lower it is the thinner the wool and the longer it may take to felt if it is not carded. 28 micro is an average thickness so will be ok, merino wool is about 19 micron so quite fine and fluffy, still useable but best to card it a bit first.
So i need to purchase 19 micron wool@@feltsbyphilippa

Do you get joint issues from repeated movements?

ruclips.net/video/WTlM4ufIfNU/видео.html
Do I smooth as I go? Or add everything first and smooth at the end?
Add everything, firm up layers fairly well as you add (depending on how big your item is) then smooth at the end x
@@feltsbyphilippa Thank you so much for replying x

Heidifeathers online is the best place xx
