Small sized oven mitts work great to remove unwanted fiber. They (the oven mitts) have silicone strips, and collects the fibers and rolls them, making them very easy to remove, so your felting surface stays clean. I also use a mitt when removing wrapped fiber around a skewer. I was really tired of splinters in my fingers while making my own curly locks!!!
I have tried everything to keep my mat clean, it's still going to collect fibers so the ONLY thing I have found that works to clean these mats is actually a pet hair remover tool. The tiny teeth help pull up the impacted fibers. Then I use a pill shaver to get the little pokey uppy fibers of the mat. I may use my thread cutters first on the long ones. I do like my different sized Wool Buddy pads but they do shed onto my projects now that they are getting older. Maybe I should wash it & DRY IT, then iron it to get the newer finish back? They are not cheap, not even the brand new tiny one I just got, so having to pick their fibers out of my projects is annoying. It's not like I am drilling them, they just get hairy faster than my oldest one did.
Yes, you can wash your mat in the machine! Just be sure to follow the care instructions to avoid damaging it. After washing, reshape it while it's still damp for the best results.
Thank you for the video advice, and for making these mats! They really are the best felting surface and I love mine.
Thank you for your kind words! It means a lot to hear that you love your Woolbuddy mat. Happy felting!
Thank you so much, I love my mat!

Thank you!
Thank you!
I use an emery board (nail file) and gently drag it across the surface of the mat. It cleans the mat up nicely.
Wow! Another helpful advice. Thank you!
This gave me the idea to use some medium-coarse grain sanding sponges I had lying around and it worked wonderfully. Thank you!

I just ordered and received the small and larger mat, wow are they amazing!! Thank you for making such wonderful products.
Lint remover tool, it has a wooden handle and a golden coloured metal head that you drag across the surface...works well.🙂

My mat gets lumpy. Can I wash in machine and reshape it?
