Thanks for the mention and yes, I'm loving my clover pen with 40 triangular in it. Great video because the cheap kits on Amazon really don't help beginners and can even put them off xx
Hi Philippa, no problem for the mention, thank you for your video on multi needle tools, it was really helpful, yes there's such a lot of cheap kits on Amazon which are very tempting, sad to think they are putting people of enjoying this wonderful craft xx
I really appreciate you making this video. I was on Amazon and trying to figure out what I should get as someone brand new to the art form. Thank you for helping to make sure I get what I really need to begin with as opposed to something I’ll regret later and will be wasted. =)
I have a similar multi-needle tool, but I’d bet mine’s higher quality. I’ve unfortunately come to really distrust those kits on Amazon for that exact reason. My multi-needle tool is sturdy and hasn’t failed me yet. Mine was either from heidifeathers or somewhere like it. I DO have needles I bought on Amazon and that’s been a ride lol I had to go through them needle by needle and find which ones felt and which ones don’t. Some were completely useless, but some of my thicker triangles are BEASTS and those live in my multi-needle tool. Both those needles and that tool are for larger felts because I agree with you. it can be rather unwieldy for smaller pieces or sculptures. It’s fantastic for that initial fastening of larger pieces of wool on larger surfaces. After that, I go back to one of my single needle tools and then finish with the Clover pen because the needles that came with it are really nice getting that last layer nice and tight. I use a whole lot of those single needle wooden tools because using just the needle was causing some weird nerve strain up in my arm as well as triggering some carpal tunnel tinglies, but I found I was getting minute splinters from them, so I wrapped them with a thin layer of vet wrap we keep around for the dog, human, and horse med kits. It’s been perfect ever since and adds a little bit of thickness too. The Clover tool isn’t my favorite because of the handle design, but it’s not uncomfortable. I just feel it could have been designed a bit better. That may very well be just me and my own preferences though. The tool itself has become one of my three main tools I use for everything. If something were to happen to it, I wouldn’t hesitate to replace it with another one.
I decided to invest at the outset and get a walnut multi needle tool from Living Felt. It can hold up to 8 needles. I have been really happy with it. I also own the Clover 5 needle punch tool and the Clover single needle pen. All are fabulous. The reason why I didn't get the pink pen was that for the closeness of the needle groupings when in the holder, I could get that same closeness with the walnut holder but have more options to use more or less needles. YMMV Thanks for sharing.
I absolutely love the Clover tool, it’s great for quicker felting, especially for a larger project. I did buy a wooden multi needle holder from Heidi Feathers but I much prefer the Clover tool. Thanks for sharing. 💕💕
I've just stumbled across your channel! Love your videos, incredibly informative, fantastically paced and your humour is perfect 🥰 Do you have any tips and products you'd recommend for helping to avoid fatigue/RSI from needle felting? It's the only thing preventing me from indulging more on it! I've seen an electric needle felting machine online which is tempting, although very expensive...
Aw thank you for your lovely feedback, glad you like the videos. It is difficult if you suffer from RSI and it does take a lot of stabs to needle felt 😕 I'm afraid I don't have much advice other than the obvious which would be to take regular breaks from felting, set a timer so that you remember to rest. However the channel felts by Philippa has a review video of one of those electric needle felting machines which might help you decide whether the cost is worth it, here's her video: ruclips.net/video/qtN2iqD5M8s/видео.htmlsi=a4vwExS2jos11rA- I hope it helps and you can manage to enjoy your felting.
I am using the tools from that exact kit right now and it’s okay I suppose? I can’t say much about the needles. The single needle holder is quite nice to use but sometimes the needle gets pushed in a bit. I only use the multi needle tool with 3 needles because it feels weird and doesn’t felt well if I use more of them. I’ll definitely check out the clover tool now when I have to buy wool for new projects, thank you for this video!
Glad you find the kit ok, and the single needle holder ok, yes I preferred the multi tool with 3 needles, glad you like the video, thanks for watching 🙂
I have a wooden holder like that and another that holds three needles instead of eight, but I don’t like them because the needles are too far apart for the small items I’m making. I was about to buy a Clover tool off Amazon, but reviews said it only works with Clover’s needles. I have a variety of needles and didn’t want to waste money on a tool they didn’t fit into, so I jury-rigged my own version by taping three needles together in a row with electrical tape. I initially chose electrical tape because I had it handy, but I found that it sticks to metal better than other kinds of tape, and has a bit of stretchiness that allow me to bend or flatten the row of needles to felt different shapes without the tape getting loose or breaking. It may not be the ideal solution, but I’ve been happy enough with my results to mention it. 🙂
Wow I like your electrical tape multi needle holder idea! sound great. I've managed ok to put other needle felting needles into the clover tool, I'm guessing it depends on the needles that you have, but I've used needles I purchased from Heidifeathers and elsewhere in my clover multi needle tool without any problems. I know what you mean about the larger multi-needle tools, they aren't ideal for small projects, but I like you ingenious solution :) Many thanks for sharing your idea and thanks for watching.
I made the mistake of buying bargain tool sets on Amazon too. Twice! Then I bought a quality set. Cost just a bit more but was worth it! I rarely use the big multi handle but I use my pink Clover pen tool on almost every project. I bought the best needles from Living Felt & 2 kits my hubby bought me had quality wool & needles. One was Blue Sky & another was from Wool Buddy. 2 were off Etsy and were not only icky but so was the wool! One didn't even have a logo or directions or even a picture! It's a tiny coin purse & I know that by the purse closure. Point being, buy from reputable places & you won't get junk. It's the junk stuff that puts new felters off the hobby. FYI I have poked myself through the side seams in the leather finger protectors too!
Many thanks for this, yes sadly there's a lot of poor quality kits out there, but as you say there are some good ones, thanks for sharing your experience, I love my wool buddy felting mat, haven't tried one of their kits yet, haven't heard of blue sky but I'll have a look. Thanks for watching
Now you have me afraid I’m pretty sure I bought the same kit off of Amazon. That seam in the cots are tricky too. You thing you are invincible until it goes through the seem. I try to hide the seem away. No issues with the multi tool yet after three months but the single one refuses to stay on now. A few weeks later I bought the clover tool. I liked it but don’t use it often because i work on larger stuff
Hopefully yours will last longer, yes I should have turned the finger guard round so that the seam was at the back 😊 I've not used the single tool holder much, but that doesn't sound good, felts by Philippa's video looks at a number of different multi needle tools (ruclips.net/video/0YvZmCLdjLI/видео.html) might be worth watching that to see if there's one suitable for larger work if yours ends up like mine 😊 thanks for watching
ha, i bought a really similar kit from amazon. it has the exact same tool. glad i don't use it. interesting about the needles. i am really new to felting, so i had no idea the barbs could be different sizes. i don't really have the money to buy better ones at the rate i break them though. i use acrylic yarn anyway [cause i cant afford wool] and it felts up really fast, so its ok.
Thanks for the comments, yes using acrylic yarn is a good way to needle felt cheaply, in the past I've also used polyester stuffing instead of core wool. Do you know why the needles are breaking? Are you using some sort of mat? They can be quite brittle, but also if you are using the needles that came with the cheap kit from Amazon it could be that those needles are more brittle and not as strong as needles from a reputable craft shop or needle felting supplier. I know needles from a needle felting supplier can seem expensive but it might be worth spending on them, just a thought 😊 but I understand it's hard to justify the spend sometimes though. Happy needle felting and thanks for watching
@@juliesfeltedfriends i think the needles are a bit brittle, but i also am a bit heavy handed with them as well. i like to use 38 and 40 gauge, and mostly i break the 40s, so i just need to be more delicate.
That's a tricky one, if you got needles in a kit and don't know the gauge I find it hard to know for sure what gauge they are, felts by Phillipa has a video on it that might help, sorry can't be more helpful, thanks for watching 😊
Thanks for this, Yeah I wondered about trying to glue it back in, I might try this at some point, but I'm enjoying using my clover tool now, but might try to fix it one day, thanks for watching 🙂
Yes maybe I did have a faulty one, but I did use it for a couple of years before this happened so maybe it was just how much I'd used it? I think the design relies on the metal thread staying in the wooden section, whereas with the clover multi needle tool is a screw thread that holds the same two parts together, so hopefully it'll last me longer 😊
Thanks for the mention and yes, I'm loving my clover pen with 40 triangular in it. Great video because the cheap kits on Amazon really don't help beginners and can even put them off xx

I live these videos so much, I just found them an you're hilarious and love the scientific approach you use with testing needles!

Thanks for sharing this information, sounds like the living felt walnut multi tool is good and gives you lots of options 👍 that's great 🙂
