Sorry I missed this. A firm wool pressing mat is good for 3 dimensional felting using one needle. If you are flat felting or want to use multi needle tools, I would advise something with a little more give like the hessian, foam, or soft wool mat. Thanks so much for your question 🙂

Maybe you need a piece of felt between the brush mat and the wood felt
