Petty has so many great songs: American Girl, I Need to Know, Even the Losers, A Woman in Love, Finding Out, Rebels, Into the Great Wide Open, You Don't Know How it Feels, Mary Jane's Last Dance
Amber & Jay, here are some other good Tom Petty songs to react to: "You Got Lucky", "Don't Do Me Like That", "Here Comes My Girl", "American Girl", "Deliver Me", "We Stand A Chance", and "You Wreck Me".
Tom Petty loved his fans so much, his last performance was done with a broken hip...then he took painkillers to help with the pain. His death was an awful tragedy. We love him so much in Florida, the University of Florida where he worked as a groundskeeper when he was a kid now dedicates every single half time break with the entire stadium singing "I Won't Back Down". I don't see that dedication to him to ever stop. I miss him!!
I just want to “thank you” two for making this old dude smile each day…have been enjoying your musical journey the last couple of years and reliving those times daily…Respect…
@@scorpiouk5914 same!! it takes me back to the days of new MTV❤ It may be 90's but "Mary Jane's Last Dance" is a great one too! **"Don't Come Around Here No More" has those awesome MTV visuals too every time you hear it! And it's also a cool back story of how the song came to be!❤
Tom Petty is my first musical love! Such a poetic storyteller, such an undeniably intriguing voice! 🥰 Have y'all done American Girl? A signature song! His entire catalogue is just incredible, but I think Here Comes My Girl is my fave!
So, plus George Harrison tomorrow too then, because the 'Helter Skelter' they reacted to was cert NOT The Beatles, it was Paul McCartney [with his touring band]
Me, too. Sometimes I listen to it on repeat for hours at a time. The first time I heard Crawling Back To You it blew me away. It never gets old. I know you and I are not the only ones who love it because if you listen to the Tom Petty channel on SiriusXM radio, they have a show called The Last DJ where fans get to choose and play their five favorite Petty songs and very often. This song is on many peoples top five songs. True Tom Petty fans love crawling back to you. I don’t know why the rest of the world doesn’t know about this song.
Jude , listen to Mike Campbell and the Dirty Knobs . Mike was Tom's guitarist and songwriting partner . He sings and plays lead guitar in this group. Very similar style. ruclips.net/video/lq4edbNa7ek/видео.htmlsi=No3qZquDtEy2ZpRC
All suggestions made are excellent. Just can't go wrong with Tom. Miss his unique voice and style so much. Thankful he left such a large catalog of songs for us to enjoy in his absence.
Tom Petty co-wrote this beauty with Jeff Lynne from ELO who was also his bandmate in the Travelling Wilburys. and the producer of the album it was the 4th single on. Full Moon Fever.
Amber has impeccable taste! Tom is a songwriter extraordinaire! ❤️ The Waiting, American Girl, Don't do me Like That, Here Comes my Girl, Walls, Jammin Me, Into the Great Wide Open, Even the Losers...& So many more 👍 🎩💘 ✌️❤️🇦🇺
Amber, if you loved "Stop Draggin' My Heart Around" with Stevie Nicks, they did another duet called "Insider" from Tom's Hard Promises album. You guys should absolutely check it out.
Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! One of my favorite TP somgs and one of his most underrated IMHO. Full Moon Fever doesn't have a bad song on it. This song always makes me think of my wife only it was reversed - she saw me. lol We would have been married forty years in June but she passed away six weeks ago. She was my one and only.
"A Face In The Crowd" the song by Tom Petty leads to "A Face In The Crowd" the 1957 thumbs up movie starring Andy Griffith which leads to "What It Was, Was Football", an amusing story less than 6 minutes long of a hick fellow swept into a game day stadium. A minor sports classic, Andy Griffith's narrative is one that every Jerome and Amber should hear at least once-- "What It Was, Was Football".
Amber & Jay, the amazing *Jeff Lynne* of ELO fame, co-wrote and produced most of Petty's hits in the late '80s to early '90s, including this great song.
My favorite slow song of Tom's. Like J said, it can put you almost in a trance. Other recommendations: Yer So Bad, You Wreck Me, Yer Jammin' Me and You Got Lucky.
I was in college in '78 when Damn The Torpedos came out. I already liked Tom by that time, but that album was a big part of the soundtrack to school for me back then. Fast forward to July 2017. With my 24 yo son, I got to see him at Boston Garden. First time for both of us, and I am so grateful. By October, he was gone. SO missed, but yeah, I love this song. He just has a way. Dreamy vibe, and those wood sticks add such nice texture in the chorus. So creative. Thank you for covering this, RSR.
TPATH my fav band. Literally 100s of songs in their discography… and the band was also never shy covering great songs by other great musicians. One of the best bands to see live. My heart hurts that Tom is gone. I thank him for leaving us some wonderful tunes 🥰

This song is bittersweet for me. When it came out, I was on drugs, and living in a cheap hotel. I was only 16. Thankfully things worked out, and I’ve been sober over 20 years now.
Wow powerful day. Love, love, love, Tom Petty. Favorite song? Mine is not a typical Petty song, Don't Fade. Lucky enough to habe seen him a handful of times. Thanks guys.
Legend is that Bob was driving around NYC, spotted Scarlet Rivera, who was carrying a violin case. He recruited her and she played on Rubin Carter. A face in the crowd, I guess, which we all are.
This brings back memories of a holiday in Washington State, Oregon and Canada/Vancouver. Driving across America with my partner (whom I WAS married to but not now thank goodness). The breathtaking scenery, Tom's voice from the car cassette tape player (yes really - that long ago). Sunshine blasting the car and glittering across lakes, walking on Mt Rainier and Mt St Helens (and the badlands). You guys live in such a stunningly beautiful country. You need to appreciate how amazing America is. I ❤ the UK and there are fabulous places here too (like the Lake District, Wales, Northumberland, Trough of Bowland, Yorkshire, Cornwall etc) but the USA takes my breath away.
Wow, I missed this song back then. I dont even remember it on the radio. My family didnt have MTV for that year it came out I see. Bummed I missed it then
Full Moon Fever by Tom Petty is a Jeff Lynne (ELO & Traveling Wilbury bandmate) production. I can play this WHOLE album all the way through without skipping one song. You can definitely hear the ELO influence on this album.
A super underrated Petty song is "Even The Losers" which is a jam. Also was recently reminded of "Love Is A Long Road" which honestly rocks pretty hard, I think Jay would super connect with that one! Amber too of course!
Tom Petty has such an interesting voice. That combines well with the mysterious atmosphere of this song. And since Tom Petty was in the Traveling Wilburys, I think of Roy Orbison's "She's a Mystery to Me," a song written by Bono and The Edge of U2.
I mean, who doesn't love Tom Petty? So many great songs. Check out "Jammin' Me" or "You Got Lucky" or "All the Wrong Reasons" or "Southern Accents" or dozens of others.

Great song! There’s another band called Blackberry Smoke did a cover of ‘You got Lucky’ that’s almost as good as the original.

My favorite Tom Petty song is “I Won’t Back Down”
His live version of "Breakdown" will give you chills. The crowd takes over and he just takes it in and says "you're going to put me out of a job".
Yes, Breakdown will always be my fav TP song. I don’t think Tom expected the crowd to be so loud singing along.
I'm not actually sure of my favorite Tom Petty song, but "Runnin' Down a Dream" has been my ringtone for several years.
Losing Tom was a traumatic loss. I can't recall a bad song.
