Really wish I had found this before I slushed out my pieces for the first time. Very informative and thorough.
watching your videos really makes me wanna get started in prop-making! it looks like it´s so much fun! you do an outstanding job explaining the steps. (and i love my sticker in the background :) )
Pro trick : you can watch series on Flixzone. Me and my gf have been using it for watching loads of movies during the lockdown.
@Dane Damari Yup, I've been using flixzone for since november myself =)
Looks really good! been taking notes in word to print for later reference, thanks for the help!
Batman armor would be cool to make.
what kinda resin is better for bigger projects? im sure youve done a video on it. but i cant seem to find one. all the casting proos ive seen have come out flopppy. i need a hard solid piece. trying to cast a. 2ft 5 rifle thats 2 inches wide at the thickest point.
+Aaron Mason how so?
Oh.. Shit.. xD how can i fix that?
Its increddible that. One little letter can screw up a word. That badly.
I want to make a mold of a pepakura bondo LOCUS helmet from halo 4, What are your thoughts on which technique I should use.
Can you use the plasti Paste on one’s head while doing the head casting ?
Hey! Check out our life casting video: ruclips.net/video/JVip4-hmZmw/видео.html
@@punishedprops thank you! I also want to roto cast (slush casting) a small hollow orb that is translucent or opaque, I want to put LED inside and don’t want people to see, so that it still has the glowing effect. I try to look for something similar in stores but could find any, that’s why I thought about slush casting one myself , and I thought about asking you guys for help .what material should I use? Still with resin? I
Their work is excellent! Inspiring! Congratulations.
ok but how do you make a regular mold without a helmet to base it off, im trying to make a dark helmet helmet from spaceballs because i cant find one for sale so i decided to make one but everyone just makes a mold with the helmet under can someone pls link me a video on how to make one without a mold.
You cant make a mold without a model in it. If you want to make that helmet then do research on how people make them. Usually with different materials then you mold it and cast it in the material you actually want.
Omg I have smooth-on in the mail to make a Reaper mask and this video couldn't have been timed better! Thanks Bill!
the flexibility of the vaced plastic could cause problems
Good stuff man! :) Looking fwd to the next installment!
Hi Bill, love this video so much you have inspired me to have a go. Just had a load of Smooth On products delivered but I'm wondering did you use any mould release on your blank?
How do you keep a concave mold like that mask from collapsing in on itself when slush casting?
Hi! Just wondering. I'm planning on making Spider-Man face shells.. tho my brain can't wrap around the idea of covering the holes.
oh dduuuddeee that guy made a ghoul mask 😲😍
I would love to have these products in my country.
Stupid question here! Is it NECESSARY to make mould for a mask?
Hello. I really enjoyed this tutorial to create a mask ichigo anime bleach. Could you share the file PDO this mask ?
Hi Bill. Great tutorial... Look, I am about to receive a helmet ABS kit and I would like to recast it and play around with some different finishes, but using vacuum form method. Is there any technique of recasting and keep the original size of the mold after vacuum it? Thx a lot!
Thx a lot for the reply. But if I vacuum form over this new hydrocal bulk, the final size will be bigger than the original bulk, right? (due to the 2mm polystyrene used on the vacuum). That's what I would like to avoid. That's the real trick I cannot figure out !!! :-)
Hey bill I used this stuff in the past called mold builder and it's basically a jar of silicone that can be used to to make a brush on mold. It recommends that you do 10 coats but it's not bad on the wallet at about 30$ for a little container of it. You can do probably 3 molds maybe more with just one container.
I made a mold for swish casting. I tried two test pieces, but the plastic always pools to the center of the mask, masking the nose and brow protrusion thicker than the rest of the mask. I swish until the liquid was barely moving and it still happened. How do I keep that from happening?
I'm wondering what a silicone mask would look like if you added battery operated fairy lights around the edge...
I really enjoy your videos and I would like to request one. There is a channel called ZNA productions or Zednought Alfa and he made an army of two style mask with a plaster and the mask was fiberglass. Here is the link to the video ruclips.net/video/n_um2AMTF-w/видео.html. I was wondering if you could put your own spin on it and maybe even let us know how durable it actually would be
So the outside jacket mold is more for support when you’re doing the actual casting is that correct?
This video is very informative & helpful. As a guy who works with making latex masks, I have a huge interest in making resin masks. My very first resin mask mold will definitely be a Anime girl kigurumi mask. Thanks for sharing! (。◕‿◕。)
You're welcome!
Hello, Thank you for this very informative video set. I have a question about the registration keys. Any suggestions on what to use if this is my very first mold I ever made? Thank you
Could you use Free Form Air Epoxy for the jacket instead of plasti paste?
If I wanted to make a mold out of a helmet but the visor of the helmet is already cut out, should I add try to fill in the visor piece with something so there’s not a hole? Or am I screwed? 😔
Would corn starch work as a thickener?
thank you very much yuo have been very usefull now i know how and how much i must buy to mak a mold .
Could you show how to make a slipknot style mask. I think they use a harder material than silicone
Thanks it was wery helpful but I have a question after you finish with brushing the silicone on the sculpture how do you clean your brush to use it next time ? I don't know what to do with my brush
I usually use disposable brushes
What is that white block that you used to mold on. I assume it is a nonstick smooth surface of some kind?
I WAS LOOKING TO MAKE THAT EXACT DRAGOON PRIEST MASK YOU ARE MOLDING LMAO
how much silicon do I need for that size of mask?
how do you clean the silicone off the brush ??
This is way harder than I thought it would be. 😂
So how much silicone was used for the one mask?
Nice job thank you ! Little question : If the piece i've to duplicate has a cylinder shape (10cm diamètre, 30cm long), should i cut the cast along the lenght or would i be able to remove the cast like a sock by returning it without breaking it?
You should be able to sock it!
Is there a dye that I can get from Walmart to color the silicone ?
Hi Bill, any major disadvantages to possibly using Free Form AIR from Smooth-On instead of Plasti-Paste II? I've successfully used Pasti-Paste II for my first mold, following your recommendation, but saw Smooth-On's demo video (the butt-ugly Batman mask that they use to show-off the pig iron additive), and they used Free Form AIR. Worth a shot or?
+Jim Esposito Free Form Air is nice because it's lighter. It might be more expensive though. I'd have to double check.
Thanks, I might give it a go then!
7:27 What is the black water , tell me please Thank.
Since you're not using the actual Brush-On product, will any RTV silicone work with this method?
Thanks a lot for your reply! One last thing. Since many Smooth-On product are virtually nonexistent where I'm from can I use, say, plaster bandages for the jacket mold?
the plastipaste looks like human fat
a nameless ghoul?! shit shit shit shit
what if you don't have any scrap silicone laying around for registration keys D:
You can build them onto your sculpt using other materials too!
wow I'm glad I found your Channel!! can you please tell me if the Rebound 25 can or should be degas on the Vaccum chamber? Thank You!
Do you have to have a jacket mold on it?
Did you make a space marine
Can you recycle cured silicone?
Have you guys ever used wet clay on any of your sculpts and then used silicone to mold them? Yeah ik it's a weird question, but I'm about to take on making Dreams helm from the sandman comics
We've used water based clay on this project: ruclips.net/video/bjwvak9XjcU/видео.html Takeaway was to make sure nothing could absorb water--our MDF swelled a bit.
I used the Rebound 25 Silicone in my first attempt. The product worked great but I was kinda sloppy in my application so I purchased another round to do a second attempt. However, I got the wrong product in the mail. I got OOMOO 30 Tin-Cure Silicone Rubber. The instructions look same but I am going to hold out for the correct Rebound 25. However, since I have this 30 tin-cure do you have any project ideas or suggestions for how to use this other product? Thanks so much!
I need some help with a large project I am doing for GenCon. Basically I need fake metal spikes of varying sizes, and I need them to be rubbery, so there is no chance in hurting people, but able to hold their form and look REAL.
Hi Bill, Do you recommend using a vacuum chamber for Rebound 25? And second question related to your upcoming slush casting video: Have you tried making props using the FOAM-IT series, VS Urethane? I would be curious to hear or maybe watch a video on that! I am making a very large creature mask and worried about the urethane weight.
Are there any other products you would recommend for making your jacket mold en lieu of Plasti-Paste?
Punished Props Thanks!
just found your channel, you got my sub already, you got me with the lord shaxx and vex cartoon, didn’t even come here for anything destiny related lol
Hah! Well thanks, we really appreciate the support!
Could i just use my Vaccuform Machine and throw some paper-mache on the outside to make it harder? ,_,
+Sir Gawain I have used that technique with some success on smaller items. The exothermic reaction of larger quantities of resin in the vaccuformed plastic made the larger molds sag and deform.. I suppose a jacket mould may help, but the silicone gives MUCH better transfer of the finer detail.
How could yo control de thickness of the walls?, I have to do like a tablet prototype(with walls, not completely solid), and I'm looking on how to do it, seems to me this can work.
It is possible to make another inner mold with a 3 millimeters inner offset and use it like a restrictor and form the wall to a certain thickness?......help me please xD....very good tutorial
Pvc mold mi name tarun
How large of a mold have you made? I'm interested in making a B-9 replica and I was thinking about using a method similar to this for the mold. I read that I should make a plug out of foam and wood, then gel coat it and fiberglass it. You used silicone which seamed to give a better result, or very similar. I wanted my mold to produce a life size replica, so... it would be really, really big. Any suggestions?
I'm looking for a body safe silicone that is SUPER STRONG!!! I'm going to be making The Penetrator Bat from Saints Row and I want it to be able to swing and it not snap in two.
That was awesome!!! I learned so much in this video! Thank you so much for sharing!!!
When you used plasti-paste for your jacket mould, could you substitute that for some kind of plaster?
Awesome work as always, Bill. I am really getting into making my own props, but I was hoping you might have some advice. Do you have a tutorial video that explains how you make your blueprints? I've been using other peoples -- like yours from the Foamsmith book -- but I'd really like to make my own. There are some weapons that I'd like to make that I can't find free/accessible 'prints for. If you don't have a video, yet, could you give some advice to an amateur propsmith? Thanks man, all the best.
Do you think EpoxAcoat would also work for the Jacket-Mold?
+Bill Doran Thank you, I will try it.
Perfect! I want to try molding and casting a shield I made. Is this plus the upcoming slush casting video the technique you'd recommend for a shield (seems similar to a mask only a bit larger). Also, if I want to make a mold out of something made with foam, is there anything special I need to do with the foam master first?
Nice guys and a girl!
Hey bill did that trial size rebound 25 cover that dragon preist mask?
I know this is an old video so there might not be a response but here goes lol. I just finished my first mother mold today and your video was my guide. Thank you very much for sharing your videos. Now, my question is how do I clean the silicone after use ?
Ha! this is great! I have a piece that I thought about doing a mold of (never done it before) And now when I look in my subscribers feed you have done a video about it! Yes! Winning at life!!
Thanks!
hi I was wondering if you could show how to make a silicone mask like sculpting and making the latex mask
Punished Props oh no one on RUclips has a video of molding a silicone mask
This is a very interesting way to do brush on moulds... I wonder if this process would work on models such as a full characters with a base or designs where there is space between legs.
Is one ounce of thi-vex good because that’s you’re link takes us to one once of thi-vex
Yep! It's added in VERY small amounts
Oh, I cringed when you mentioned wasting silicone and spilling resin. I just made a made a mold and did both of those things, wasted a bunch of silicone in a box mold and also made it in such a way that slushing it wastes a lot of resin. But I learned a lot, and this was a great resource for how I'll do it next time.
This series of video's is very informative! Now I am wondering, could you make your jacket from plaster?
How can I mold a friday the 13th 2009 neca mask.
Just like this!
Could you have done this as a matrix mold? When would you use a matrix mold vs a brush on mold?
Idk when I slush mine it hardens pretty good then has a streamy slime texture or it puddles up
Fast *
Can you pour plaster casting in these molds??
I've never tried! I suppose you could?
Hi Bill. Just watched the Q&A episode on this playlist and got my answer. Thanks, keep up the good work.
your videos are awesome, and i am studying mold making for my spiderman faceshell.
I watched your entire series on casting and mold making and actually own your foamsmith books. My question is what would you make your helmet out of before you make a mold of it. I know in prior video you said you wouldn’t use Eva foam so was wondering what instead should I make a helmet out of if I want to make a mold of it.
Awesome video and great straightforward explanations!
resin, bill, gash
Awesome guide Bill! :D
However this does make me wonder, at 0:39 you said you could just fill a container with Silicone and it'll make a perfectly good mold.
Now given all the extra hours of effort it takes to make these brush-on molds (Curing in between steps and such) plus extra stuff like wood, hardware (nut's, blots) and all the other stuff you smeared on there, i'm curious if it really is that much more cost effective long term?
Then again... I don't know much about this stuff! xD I just really like your channel and the professional crafts you produce so i haven't got the slightest clue.
Anyways, keep up the good stuff!
+Bill Doran Nice, thanks for clearing things up! ^^
Can you use normal silicone to coat the inside of a 2 part mold made from 2 Styrofoam blocks?
I had no idea I wanted to know how to do this... And just in time to be ready for Halloween!
Hey so I've got an iron man helmet is the trial size of plasti paste you used enough for that or should I switch to a gallon
also if you have no scrap silicone what can you use for registration keys?
Did you use a release agent on your mask before spreading silicone on it??
"Else you will get silicone on the carpet!" Said as if bill has experience in this matter. xD
Hi Bill! I want to cast a skateboard and was wondering what material would work best for this?
Just the video I was waiting for. Time to make a mold of my Helmet.
Lol that silicone in the carpet comment sounded personal
😭
Thank you, adding this to Favorites and then the slush cast video upcoming
Question can you cast faces for example anime character faces?
That nameless ghoul totally caught me off guard
Surprise!
Will this work if I want to make a mask out of fiberglass??
Another good video such as always!
Hello Bill. Big fan and I really enjoy all the work you guys do over there. I was curious if rebound 25 can be used for making a mold of possibly a statue or model and not just masks or helmets? I hope to hear from you and thank you and everyone at Punished Props for the great content.
