    This is a great series, but I don't understand the recommendation to inflate the BC to go up and then deflate it to neutralize. That's counter to how it should be done (which was obvious given that you had an almost uncontrolled ascent and had to cut the video). Similar to how you breathed out and gave yourself time to sink, you can ascend the same way. Breathe in and hold it a second longer while breathing out slower. It takes an extra couple of seconds but as you start ascending the gas in the BC now starts expanding and wants to bring you further up anyway.
    Remember we're either neutral or we're accelerating one way or another. It's more important to use time to our advantage rather than constantly manipulating the BC. Precise buoyancy is much easier to understand when on CCR and in that case we don't have the use of our lungs to maintain buoyancy.

      You can ascent and descent using your lungs or the BCD... they can both do the same job, but in a different way!
      Using the lungs for beginners it's easier, faster and more precise... but there is a minor risk of lungs overxtention, possibly some CO2 retention and increased gas consumption.
      Excessive use of lungs for buoyancy can cause overexertion and consequently stress.
      With the BCD you can make a mistake and go up too fast, risking DCS or a reverse block... and if you sink too fast you might hurt your ears. That's also true!
      Now... if you continue to dive, become more expert, go deeper, with more tanks, or dive yo-yo profiles like in the cavers and caves... you cannot use your lungs all the time, you get CO2 retention and get exhausted pretty fast! It's important to become proficient and very precise with the BCD, that's why we have it, not just to float at the surface.
      Lungs can do a great job for minor depth changes... like 1ft up or down, but that's it! The rest must be done with BCD and it's better to get it right from the start!
      99% of buoyancy control is with BCD!
      And I just speak about OC...
      Also, the next time you assume that I cannot control my buoyancy, like you just said... remember that you are hurting my feelings very bad and I am literally crying right now!!!
