Now I really want the FCM-12t (A prototype light tank that would later become the AMX-13) made into an AA. It had a new closed SAMM S232 turret that was armed with four 20mm MG 151/20 autocannons.
7.7 is absolutely one of the best French lineups, and very much worth the grind. The AMX-13-90 mentioned at the start complements it well. I'd also recommend the Barougan as a fighter, it has good multirole capability with sneb pods and can be taken along with the F84 without affecting its spawn cost. The other possibility is the H34, really not a great helicopter but can bring two ss.11s at the lowest possible BR for a chopper.
France 7.7 is definitely a dreamful line-up, but you really have to get used to playing around the ready rack for anything that is not the AMX-50 Surbaissé. Like at 5:26, I was scratching my head like "Why?" when the round was literally milliseconds away from getting refilled before you shot. Also, Gaijin made an undocumented change that is harder to notice at first, but basically, it allows you to load in shells faster than normal, usually requiring only half the bar (but for some reason, it didn't always trigger for you, so I don't understand what actually causes it to happen). It's also very important to at times drop possible engagements or stay put until your autoloader is more properly refilled. You have to use these tanks like you're larping as John Wick, guns blazing and then taking a breather before doing the same.
Another note on refilling the rack, if you go sit on a cap to reload shells, it reloads them directly to the ready rack and will refill you much faster than the typical refill speed. Edit to add: I hadn't gotten through the video and now realize Odd pointed this out.

Funnily enough I was playing my France 7.7 lineup yesterday. 8 full up tiers in a row. Constantly facing full stabilised laser rangefinder apfsds is pure suffering. It’s the same for most 7.7 lineups. It’s the most brutal uptier in the game.
It's because Gayjin riggs all the battles in favor of Soviet vehicles. And it's even worse when you play France. Suddenly, all you tanks are unable to shoot a cow at 10 feet...

French tanks maybe are good, only if you can hear everything, I can't at all.
Not to mention the AML-90, the AMX-13-90, the AMX-50 (TOA100), the E.B.R. (1963) and the Barougan. If you have enough crews you can pull out all the stops for French 7.7

I haven't played any French tanks, watching this and thinking the chassis looks very German Panther. Done bit of research, and it's because that's the base of the design! Nice!
TPK is a slapping good time. You are vulnerable, but you play cat and mouse. Use cover, hug walls and pop out to control who can see you, and make sure to only engage quick bursts at short distance ambushes so you don't leave too much extra shots to attract attention of other CAS. It's a fun balancing of attacking but not "too much" to get aggro. Well, that is, when you have a good round. War Thunder being notorious for... well, you know.

@@Hellkat18It's my favorite Tank in the game however it's still a gamble for players such as Spookston and OddZ since they may know enemy weak spots but volumetric is not an ally. Churchill MK VII in Sim Battles is goated. Bounce like a demon until they start hitting tracks which is another sad factor due to the mobility on this tank. So yeah in General the tank is a pain to play.

Just a suggestion: I like this line up videos. Even if you are playing a single tank, please take a line up (3 tanks or so). With your skill, you will be able to do clutch with some other tank and I would enjoy them even if that's not the video is about. I mean, who doesn't like the end clutch situations :)
One of my favorites for sure! If you're doing lineup videos, maybe a T-34-85 lineup is in order, the 85E is great backed up with the regular 85 and the D5T version, and maybe a Tu-2 with the big bombs could round things out. Just an idea but I never see the T-34-85 get much love from a lot of people, I appreciate your time and consideration.
The wingtip fuel pods actually have no impact on flight performance on the F-84. But I get rid of them anyways purely for aesthetic purposes. Another great video Odd!
your pattern recognition skills are great. it seems like you know exactly where to shoot every target. That's probably my biggest issue is I just lay into them and bounce 50 shells cuz idk where to aim

I absolutely love your French videos, please say Somua like in that other video haha. I decided to start as a French main as a rookie because I was curious about auto loaders. Sometime I regret my decision, but there's just something about the French tree and being an underdog in this game that's satisfying when you destroy other tanks.
I remember a several years ago when the 7.0 -7.7 lineup was the Lorraine 40T, AMX-50, AMX-13-90, AML-90, AMX-30(1972), Soma and Char 25T. Fuck me those were the days back then. Lorraine 40T became my favorite tank because of this lineup.

I definitely find it interesting as Odd mentioned: that the event grind is getting to everyone. Lucky for me, i dont pay attention to events, battle pass etc. I just play for fun. Its much more stress and frustration free!
It made me very sad when the AMX-30s moved up. If I want to bring my "baguette leopard" (and I do, having an inexplicable soft spot for it), the 7.7s get a permanent uptier and face even more stabilizers than usual.

unhistoric APHE that was used to fire 3x on a test bed it appears, on a terrible CAS plane that couldn't complete a max rate turn without overheating and was very inaccurate and basically not used due to this.. meanwhile Gaijin:

An idea I had ages ago and suggested several times to Spookston for a challenge video. Be the BEST teamate. Get first on the team & win the match without killing any tanks. Assists, scouts, repairs, captures are the only way to play. If you kill somebody at all, you lose. The only xeption is shooting down enemy planes, but this is ONLY allowed if you do it with the main cannon, not a bonus-mg Obviously squad mates are encouraged
Man, I was hoping to see the Auf1. It's the french tank I'm best with :D It's also why I'm not great with the tanks in your lineup: I know HE weakspots, not AP weakspots lol
The French 7.7 lineup is my go-to lineup when I need a Heavy Metal Hero medal or the "Be the best" challenge. But the Lorraine 40t is my least favorite tank in that lineup, the AMX50 TO100 is just better in every regard. Sadly they nerfed the turret rotation speed on my all time favorite AML90 (the only tank so far that I aced with battle points). But it is still great for ambushing early in the game and scouting. That whole lineup has great mobility, even the Surbaissé as a heavy has better mobility than most US medium tanks.

A video on the "better" t-34-85 D5T could be a fun one over the 5.7 "upgraded" one. Since its not 5.7 its not in the black hole match maker that is 5.7-6.7 and you can have some really fun matches with the Cupolar having 45mm armor causing over Pens and a better turret armor lay out then the higher BR version. 1 less crew but many upsides
something Odd forgot to mention i think, but the Souma SM got buffed this patch so it went from 40km/h to 50km/h, a huge speed buff and its 1000 HP engine really allows it to accelerate that fast pretty reliably, its one of my favorite vehicles and it getting buffed is amazing
@@N4CR the TOA90 is technically better in every way except armor/survivability, the APHE thats what, M82?, the nuke round, is far superior to straight up AP, plus its also an autoloader with commander gunner control, idk, the TOA90 is just better
Ok boys, the cat is out of the bag. While the 6.7 BR is already great, 7.7 is where the French tree shines in absolute glory, and the AMX-50 Surbaissé is its crown jewel. Also, the F4U-7 Corsair is probably the best CAS plane in game in the 6.0-7.7 bracket (at 8.0 and above, AA just becomes too powerful). Using custom loadouts, you can mount BOTH the 6 SNEB pods, and 3 1000pndr bombs... Until the bombs are dropped, it handles like a lead brick, but making 4 ground kills in one loadout is a breeze. You then have a very fast, agile and powerful fighter to deal with aircrafts...
Dont sleep on the M.D.450B Barougan, its pretty good, It might not have the top end speed of the F-84 but its still very fast and it accelerates good when its already at high speed as well as having good dogfighting characteristics. Can take lots of SNEBs for its rank and still carry bombs. It usually has good option to win or at least neutralize against enemy air. In my opinion if you're goal is to fly in take out a tank or two then sweep their air support the Barougan is the better choice.
Tip: if you know what youre doing French on br 5.3 is a god damn sweet spot for grinding next tech tree, you got both AMX and EBR for speed, Hellcat for CAS and the infamous AMC DCA 40 for spaa

I wish we could get the M47 Patton 105mm for France, which is armed with the CN 105 F1. Yes, an M47 Patton armed with the main gun of the AMX-30.

No. We don't need more US vehicles. I hate US vehicles in the French tech tree, the only one that deserves to exist is the SA50.
the foch is a good addition to this lineup, especially in downtiers in corridor maps

Yeah, it's a pretty good SPAA, but I think the biggest issue with it is the recoil. It can make aiming with it a bit difficult at times
Was recently able to drop my first nuke with 7.7 France at an 8.3 uptier. It's by far my favorite lineup in the game.
The 120mm has a weirdly high ricochet chance for god knows what reason. Same shell on the m103. They love to bounce

So you can't finish repair while the tank is burning, but you can reload, while your commander/gunner/loader guy is also fixing the breach. xD

i just recently got to 7.7 france and i absolutely love it, the auto loaders really negate most of the negatives of those vehicles

Be the BEST teamate. Get first on the team & win the match without killing any tanks.
Assists, scouts, repairs, captures are the only way to play. If you kill somebody at all, you lose. The only xeption is shooting down enemy planes, but this is ONLY allowed if you do it with the main cannon, not a bonus-mg
Obviously squad mates are encouraged

The French 7.7 lineup is my go-to lineup when I need a Heavy Metal Hero medal or the "Be the best" challenge. But the Lorraine 40t is my least favorite tank in that lineup, the AMX50 TO100 is just better in every regard. Sadly they nerfed the turret rotation speed on my all time favorite AML90 (the only tank so far that I aced with battle points). But it is still great for ambushing early in the game and scouting.
That whole lineup has great mobility, even the Surbaissé as a heavy has better mobility than most US medium tanks.
The Lorraine is great though, just not as great as every other tank in that lineup 😂
you forgot the Ouragan at 7.7! so good I got a free ace with it when grinding the ground tree at 7.7 and up

The PTZ89 is a great TD. The reload rate and round are amazing. I don't think you have ever done a video on it.
There’s a small weak spot on the Sublassie where the upper and lower front plate meat where the long 88 can pen
A video on the "better" t-34-85 D5T could be a fun one over the 5.7 "upgraded" one. Since its not 5.7 its not in the black hole match maker that is 5.7-6.7 and you can have some really fun matches with the Cupolar having 45mm armor causing over Pens and a better turret armor lay out then the higher BR version. 1 less crew but many upsides
something Odd forgot to mention i think, but the Souma SM got buffed this patch so it went from 40km/h to 50km/h, a huge speed buff and its 1000 HP engine really allows it to accelerate that fast pretty reliably, its one of my favorite vehicles and it getting buffed is amazing
I love how they put the inferior TOA90/930 up to 8.0 and Somua stayed 7.7 greedy buggars
@@N4CR the TOA90 is technically better in every way except armor/survivability, the APHE thats what, M82?, the nuke round, is far superior to straight up AP, plus its also an autoloader with commander gunner control, idk, the TOA90 is just better
The F4U-7 in the french tech tree can equipe the 114 rockets and 3 1000 lbs bombes at the same time.

While the 6.7 BR is already great, 7.7 is where the French tree shines in absolute glory, and the AMX-50 Surbaissé is its crown jewel.
Also, the F4U-7 Corsair is probably the best CAS plane in game in the 6.0-7.7 bracket (at 8.0 and above, AA just becomes too powerful).
Using custom loadouts, you can mount BOTH the 6 SNEB pods, and 3 1000pndr bombs... Until the bombs are dropped, it handles like a lead brick, but making 4 ground kills in one loadout is a breeze. You then have a very fast, agile and powerful fighter to deal with aircrafts...
My favorite line up to play for a very long time. For fun or for grinding sl etc
instead of the corsair, you should have bring the Barougan at 7.7, you can load it with 38 snebs. A very polyvalent fighter for ground RB.
Dont sleep on the M.D.450B Barougan, its pretty good, It might not have the top end speed of the F-84 but its still very fast and it accelerates good when its already at high speed as well as having good dogfighting characteristics. Can take lots of SNEBs for its rank and still carry bombs. It usually has good option to win or at least neutralize against enemy air.
In my opinion if you're goal is to fly in take out a tank or two then sweep their air support the Barougan is the better choice.
@28:26 Round pens the mantlet and ricochets off the breach. Imagine that.
Tip: if you know what youre doing French on br 5.3 is a god damn sweet spot for grinding next tech tree, you got both AMX and EBR for speed, Hellcat for CAS and the infamous AMC DCA 40 for spaa
the DCA is one of the best if not the best anti-tank AA after the ZSU-57
@@dbeerewout TOo bad it got put up with no lineup and over-brd. IT's a bofors 40 with a giant 'kill me here' ammo rack for a turret. I do well in it against planes, most don't.
@@N4CR Its the same for the ZSU tho, but the 94MM pen can pen everything from the side even up to 7.7
6.7 French with the naughty premiums is a great lineup also
I'd suggest the ST-A3 to take out - effectively a US 90mm with heat and a 6 second autoloader on a decently mobile platform

I highly recommend the amx chaffee premium it’s so fun but yeah France is a grind until 7.7 if played patiently it’s great
