They could add a realistic tank only mode but they know it would make Ground RB almost dead. Cas is generally toxic and everyone knows it this however is just insane.

Had a match against a team with USSR and US today, not even 5 minutes in and there's at least 10 planes in the sky. Everybody capping points immediately gets bombed by F4Us. Everybody who spawned AA immediately dies because of the new aphe round. It was not fun.
This game mode is unfair and full of garbage . Give us back TRUE "Ground Battles" Gaijin ! Im pretty sure lots of tank players will actually come (back) to the game if they make "Ground Battles" and "Combined Arms" two different modes again .

So yes, the game was ALWAYS about planes, but that doesn't mean tank battles ALWAYS had planes in it . I participated in the tank CBT ; It was NOT always like this . I'm becoming tired of this lie . When I was last playing war thunder [its been awhile I don't touch that hot pile of shit anymore] I was as good if not better with full sim controls as CAS. you don't remove something that is meta, you make everything else stronger to bring it up to the level of the META...
@johnwalker7592 I actually enjoy ground Simulator battles, in part because the flying constraints it puts on pilots means CAS is *much* less of a problem, and when I die I can at least tip my hat to a skilled player. You can't do that when some yob hits spacebar from 3rd person in Ground RB Problem is Sim is very neglected with a lot of issues, the addition of vast amounts of captured/lendlease/sale equipment to various nations was the final nail in the coffin for the gamemode.

Yup no dog fighter but I use to use it all the time for ground strikes and once you learn to use it, you can dodge fighters and get a one up on them and the 4 45's just delete fighters and bombers.

@@bwiese Yeah I really don't know why the Germany 50mm is so inaccurate compared to the 37mm and 45mm from the Soviets. Especially since firing the Yak-9T too much caused the 37mm to essentially rip apart the plane.

But the Yak flight model is good enough that you can get on target very fast, and the gun is lethal enough to kill in one or two shots. You do not need to fly in a "predictable flight path". I've gotten 8+ kills without rearming several times in like 20 games or so and I'm not even a very good CAS pilot.

5:45 you could have your sound settings set to the speed of sound, this would make all firing have a delayed sound at a distance so you would get hit before hearing them

A familiar setup from my ex4.3 lineup when the T-34/57s were 4.3! Today non of these planes are part of any of my mixed presets, got repaced by the US land-lease premiums.
Absolutely love the yak 9k & 9t in air RB too, if you get good with the trajectory of your cannon and assign your machine guns to a different mouse button, you can use the machine guns to range in your shots then just click people out of the air. It so satisfying and the lack of ammo doesnt feel too bad then either.
odd you're quite skilled at this game, I've played this game for quite some time now and i've come to an understanding of how this game works but you're truly a master at with your craft.

@@brianj.simpson4050 You should give it a go. My father thought he'd never be able to fly well in War Thunder initially, but after some practice in Air AB and then in Air RB it went surprisingly well.

I used to fly a lot of CAP and earn tens of thousands of SL from just shooting planes. Basically used to give you as much as in Air RB for an air kill, but players could spawn multiple planes.

I saw this video pop up in the discord but hadn't watched it until now. This explains why when I tried to play Germany 4.0 I got 3 matches in a row where within minjtes the sky was full of Yaks. I managed to live for 4 lives (Heavy, TD, AA, and fighter) and all 4 deaths were 1-2 shot kills from Yak-9s.
It had it before, but then Gaijin removed it. The neat thing was that the belt using APHE wasn't pure APHE, it was a mix of AP, APHE and HE. T18B (57) is still one of my all time favorite planes.
So shooting just two to three rounds of this thing has the same explosive mass of a typical grenade. Absolutely insane when you are normally getting 4-6 shots on target and even more gross from the top.
Ideas on how to fix the CAS problem: 1: make a dedicated tank mode 2: have plane spawn costs be increased by 2x-4x 3: all planes must take off from the runway 4: when dropping a bomb, it has a 5-10% chance to be a dud. These duds can be shot by cannons, allowing tanks (and even the more intelligent CAS players) to use them strategically
I recently got shot thru the turret front by the Yak in both a Sherman and Cromwell because of the weird top down angle and youknowwho bias in two back to back games. Its like your quintessential, "really?!!?" WT Moment.
If you look at the pen values in the start, the 37mms has more(by around 30mm). The 37mms also suffer less from volumetric because of the slightly smaller size, while not having too much of a difference in HE filler. The 37mms also have more ammo(and firerate)
It's a 22 mm difference at point blank, 59 vs 71 mm. The 45 mm loses penetration slower with distance, so at 500 meters (a typical distance for these engagements), that difference is of only 9 mm, at 48 vs 57 mm. Volumetric barely matters when you're at this small of a scale, and when you're firing multiple rounds. The 37 mm fires solid shot with no explosive filler. Meanwhile the 45 mm APHE has more filler than a German long 75 mm cannon APHE. Stating that there isn't "too much of a difference in HE filler" is flat out wrong. The 37 mm having more ammo is either too little a difference to matter or just doesn't compensate for the damage increase. For example, the difference in rounds between a Yak-9K with a 45 mm and a Yak-9T with a 37 mm is literally 1 round, going from 29 to 30. On the TIS MA the difference is more meaningful at 25 RPG, from 100 to 150 total, but again the 45 mm deals significantly more damage. And on firerate... It's a difference of literally 2 RPM, from 258 to 260. It takes 1.615 seconds for the NS-37 to complete a 7 round burst, and 1.628 seconds for the NS-45. The difference is so incredibly small it can be completely ignored.

@@filonin2 It's a game. Not reality. Games like War Thunder needs a balance between fun and realism. It's unfair because planes can participate in every other mode in War Thunder, while ground forces and ships are forced to deal with planes and don't have the option to opt out. Even though there is a clear imbalance with ground forces not being able to fight back. At least ships have competent AI AA guns with lots of them even having proxy shells. It would be nice if proxy shells was handed out to all SPAA in ground forces to tip the balance a little. Yes not all of them had them, that is accurate. But something needs to be done to change the balance. People have complained about CAS since day one when it was added to ground forces back in 2014.

I quickly unlocked the armored belts on the 9K and currently have a 5.7 K/D in it just playing 4.0 grb. Ive been getting a few 9 kill games in it. Such a satisfying ground pounder. Gonna have to try the 9UT and see if its just as effective at that BR
Someone playing cas Pitching that they need to add tracers foreground vehicles. Cas players already have a huge advantage. Need better AA is what we need, not more airplanes. That aircraft needs to be bumped up to 8.0.
A good start for giving SPAA an easier time (imo) would be fixing two rendering issues: 1) A lot of trees stop rendering before vehicles, so CAS can see ground vehicles that should be hidden by trees 2) Planes don't always render making it hard for SPAA (and anti-CAS) to track

@@burningsinner1132 This is true, aircraft could carry a tremendous amount of ammo, and some of them were actually sent out with that much (mostly USA & USSR). It made them bricks though, if people had to ground start with these planes and play with sim controls I imagine your average CAS player probably wouldn't even get to the battlefield in them (and barely hit anything if they arrive). Instructor+air start+perfect gunnery turns them from somewhat scary gunships to ridiculous CoD kill streak rewards (except you can spawn them without a kill streak). Not to mention weapons overheating tossing out those rounds practically isn't modeled at all in WT, except for machine guns and SPAA for some reason, but sim controls wouldn't fix that lol
@@micaheiber1419 Well I googled a little and found out that these shells have only 45x186mm , it's a very short round . And there was only HE available , no APHE and this would never penetrate what 48mm ? AP has even 79mm pen , for comparison the German 50mm has 50x420mm wich I thought the 45mm has as well . That's why I said this could never carry 100 rounds . Mk103 has 30x184mm and the APCR rounds wich fly 940m/s penetrate 77mm (irl up to 95mm) . Soviet 45mm AP with 780m/s pens 79mm omfg , so they basically do what they want as usual .

If its a supersonic round thats accurate, you wont hear the sound before you are already dead.

@@DaReaperZ - LOL; I’m a retired Navy helo pilot; haven’t figured out how to fly with a mouse & keyboard yet. Hell, I can barely drive a tank as it is & I haven’t spent a dime on War Thunder.
@@brianj.simpson4050 You should give it a go. My father thought he'd never be able to fly well in War Thunder initially, but after some practice in Air AB and then in Air RB it went surprisingly well.

I used to fly a lot of CAP and earn tens of thousands of SL from just shooting planes. Basically used to give you as much as in Air RB for an air kill, but players could spawn multiple planes.

I saw this video pop up in the discord but hadn't watched it until now. This explains why when I tried to play Germany 4.0 I got 3 matches in a row where within minjtes the sky was full of Yaks. I managed to live for 4 lives (Heavy, TD, AA, and fighter) and all 4 deaths were 1-2 shot kills from Yak-9s.
Wish Swedish T18B (57) would get APHE for 57mm but I don't think it used it. Shame.
It had it before, but then Gaijin removed it. The neat thing was that the belt using APHE wasn't pure APHE, it was a mix of AP, APHE and HE. T18B (57) is still one of my all time favorite planes.

So shooting just two to three rounds of this thing has the same explosive mass of a typical grenade. Absolutely insane when you are normally getting 4-6 shots on target and even more gross from the top.

Ideas on how to fix the CAS problem:
1: make a dedicated tank mode
2: have plane spawn costs be increased by 2x-4x
3: all planes must take off from the runway
4: when dropping a bomb, it has a 5-10% chance to be a dud. These duds can be shot by cannons, allowing tanks (and even the more intelligent CAS players) to use them strategically
I recently got shot thru the turret front by the Yak in both a Sherman and Cromwell because of the weird top down angle and youknowwho bias in two back to back games. Its like your quintessential, "really?!!?" WT Moment.

If you look at the pen values in the start, the 37mms has more(by around 30mm). The 37mms also suffer less from volumetric because of the slightly smaller size, while not having too much of a difference in HE filler. The 37mms also have more ammo(and firerate)
It's a 22 mm difference at point blank, 59 vs 71 mm. The 45 mm loses penetration slower with distance, so at 500 meters (a typical distance for these engagements), that difference is of only 9 mm, at 48 vs 57 mm.
Volumetric barely matters when you're at this small of a scale, and when you're firing multiple rounds.
The 37 mm fires solid shot with no explosive filler. Meanwhile the 45 mm APHE has more filler than a German long 75 mm cannon APHE. Stating that there isn't "too much of a difference in HE filler" is flat out wrong.
The 37 mm having more ammo is either too little a difference to matter or just doesn't compensate for the damage increase. For example, the difference in rounds between a Yak-9K with a 45 mm and a Yak-9T with a 37 mm is literally 1 round, going from 29 to 30. On the TIS MA the difference is more meaningful at 25 RPG, from 100 to 150 total, but again the 45 mm deals significantly more damage.
And on firerate... It's a difference of literally 2 RPM, from 258 to 260. It takes 1.615 seconds for the NS-37 to complete a 7 round burst, and 1.628 seconds for the NS-45. The difference is so incredibly small it can be completely ignored.

@@filonin2 It's a game. Not reality. Games like War Thunder needs a balance between fun and realism. It's unfair because planes can participate in every other mode in War Thunder, while ground forces and ships are forced to deal with planes and don't have the option to opt out. Even though there is a clear imbalance with ground forces not being able to fight back. At least ships have competent AI AA guns with lots of them even having proxy shells. It would be nice if proxy shells was handed out to all SPAA in ground forces to tip the balance a little. Yes not all of them had them, that is accurate. But something needs to be done to change the balance. People have complained about CAS since day one when it was added to ground forces back in 2014.

Now sadly, I don't think the US produced an APHE round for their 20mm and 37mm autocannons used on some of their aircraft.
No properly bonking people in the P-39 Aircobra or P-63 Kingcobra.
Neither did the Soviets. Gaijin appears to have kinda made this up, basing it on ground based 45mm

I already used the 45mm guns because I noticed too often the 37mm had virtually no spalling. Giving them APHE is a "unique" decision.

As a dedicated SPAA player, this is awesome for me. Everyone is going to be trying to jump into planes.
I quickly unlocked the armored belts on the 9K and currently have a 5.7 K/D in it just playing 4.0 grb. Ive been getting a few 9 kill games in it. Such a satisfying ground pounder. Gonna have to try the 9UT and see if its just as effective at that BR
Someone playing cas Pitching that they need to add tracers foreground vehicles. Cas players already have a huge advantage. Need better AA is what we need, not more airplanes. That aircraft needs to be bumped up to 8.0.
A good start for giving SPAA an easier time (imo) would be fixing two rendering issues:
1) A lot of trees stop rendering before vehicles, so CAS can see ground vehicles that should be hidden by trees
2) Planes don't always render making it hard for SPAA (and anti-CAS) to track

I think justification was something like this: Yeah, we nerfed APHE, so now people in combined battles will be able to handle APHE-based CAS.

They just do and they did so historically. T-26 carrying 205 shells in "line" version (The one mass produced without the radio) is historical.
@@burningsinner1132 This is true, aircraft could carry a tremendous amount of ammo, and some of them were actually sent out with that much (mostly USA & USSR). It made them bricks though, if people had to ground start with these planes and play with sim controls I imagine your average CAS player probably wouldn't even get to the battlefield in them (and barely hit anything if they arrive). Instructor+air start+perfect gunnery turns them from somewhat scary gunships to ridiculous CoD kill streak rewards (except you can spawn them without a kill streak).
Not to mention weapons overheating tossing out those rounds practically isn't modeled at all in WT, except for machine guns and SPAA for some reason, but sim controls wouldn't fix that lol

@@micaheiber1419 Well I googled a little and found out that these shells have only 45x186mm , it's a very short round . And there was only HE available , no APHE and this would never penetrate what 48mm ? AP has even 79mm pen , for comparison the German 50mm has 50x420mm wich I thought the 45mm has as well . That's why I said this could never carry 100 rounds .
Mk103 has 30x184mm and the APCR rounds wich fly 940m/s penetrate 77mm (irl up to 95mm) . Soviet 45mm AP with 780m/s pens 79mm omfg , so they basically do what they want as usual .
Gaijin just hates tank players .
But as long as people will continu to give them money for their broken game, they will continu to do as it is .
