    Another great video.. I appreciate the fact you showed the Wizard behind the curtain.. Unlike so many of these "Gate keepers" that give just enough info to keep you coming back to buy more plants.. No names but there are quite a few out there that keep the secrets because of their busines model and profit and I understand that.. However we have something in common, I'm on a limited budget too and we don't have a business selling CPs.. Thanks Again for sharing your world with us!!

    Anyway,yeah,doesn't take long to fill a growtent! Mine is only a 4×4x8 Vivosun,and I have to puck and choose plants,knowing their true beauty doesn't come for years,for some. I'm more of the Viechii type of a guy,and have a few crosses,but mainly Veichii. My prize plant though is a BE-3380 Hamata,so I try my best to give it its "required" highland conditions,but it's done fine all summer as a intermediate. It'll get going better here,in Iowa,with the fall conditions,hopefully!! It'll be 1 year in my possession the 29th of Novermber.
    Love your way of doing things on a budget! We all don't have big bucks to throw at our plants!!

The plants like to be cozy with each other anyways! That is awesome! You should send me some pics on instagram! I like to see other’s successes with these amazing plants!

    Currently keeping my intermediates and highlands in the same tent. I moved my low lasers out because they were growing so slow!!!! Lowland can grow in cooler temps, but they definitely love the heat! I also made my own humidifier out of a 5 gallon bucket, an ultrasonic fogger, a 3d printed float for the fogger, and a pc fan. Super cheap and costs around $20 total and it puts out more mist than my humidifier and the extra water means I only have to fill about once 1.5-2 weeks. Also that is a huge tent for that price. I have a 2x4x5 and mine cost about the same 😂

      That is awesome. I want to try a fogger and see how that goes too. Yeah the tent was cheap for sure. They are coming down in price. The next size up ramps up in price a bit so I have to save for that one!

    Thx for the info. I was currently looking for grow lights. I was becoming a light nerd. And in my research, I found that LED shop light works perfectly for Nepenthes. Even on the ICPS, they talk about them. So I've decided to purchase some shop lights. I have a few other grow lights, but they needed to be more intense.

    Nice video, but there's a few things you should've addressed when it comes to grow tent growing for high humidity plants. Not all grow tents are equal, the cheaper ones seem like a life saver for costs, but tend to leak any water that gets on the bottom of the tent. With higher relative humidity levels, the more condensation will form on the inside walls of the tents. This will cause the water to drip down the sides of the tent and bypass any "drip" pans on the floors. To combat this, you will need a lot of air circulation throughout the tent. You don't want your expensive floors to get water damage and believe me they will. You should've recommended a few different types of temperature and humidity controllers and monitors. With the grow tents being a more sealed environment, this will also keep all the heat from the lights inside the tent. Therefore, you will need to exhaust that hot air out and with that, the humidity will drop as well. So make sure you have a good way to bring that humidity back up to your desired levels. Now as for the lights you mentioned lumens, which is something that's not relative to plants. We use lumens and lux for human eye sight and has nothing to do with plants for photosynthetic ability. This would be PAR values in PPFD u/mol ect. PAR stands for Photosynthetic active radiation. This concept is meant for plants and has absolutely NOTHING to do with lumens or lux. It does not matter what the values on the light say for lumens or lux, those are values meant to measure different concepts for photography and lighting that's appealing to our eyes and nothing to do with plants. It's great for you to take your time and make these great videos, but please keep current with the proper technology and science, especially if you claim to be a nursery or professional grower ect. Another thing to mention and people don't realize for the grow tents is the proper lining inside for reflection of lights. Make sure it's the correct type and quality. If the inside of the tent gets wet, the clear plastic lighting WILL come off.

    Thank you for this video. I just would like to say what's happen in my own grow tent (hydrx mars one): This product is very good, but... in less than 6 months my mylar became pitted and speckled with small and medium-sized black spots. It doesn't come off when I tried tio wash up, it doesn't come from humidity and it's not mold. I think it's just the mylar that is poor quality. Has anyone had this same problem ? For my second grow tent, I have choose antother manufacturer.

    CHM Carnivores I have been watching a lot of your videos. I recently acquired a friends nepenthes collection (21 plants...10 intermediate, 10 highlanders, 1 Low/Intermediate N. x hookeriana) and am having trouble finding species specific information regarding lighting, ecology(habitat) other than what is available through Wikipedia/ toms carnivores/ various blogs and a few youtubers like yourself. I have also read Savage Garden cover to cover.
    I have determined temperature ranges for all the nepenthes in the collection and have ideal ranges for 95% of the plants (including the ability to control night temps down to 52f). The single Lowland/intermediate N. x hookeriana is in a bell cloche on a heating pad (night temp stays above 66F).
    Lighting is my biggest concern. I have the ability to produce light levels similar to direct sun (2000uMol/m^2/s) all the way down to the shaded areas (lowest measured value 20uMol/m^2/s).
    I really like your rack setup as I have an indoor 4x4 tent I grow plants (bonsai/ tropical plants/ orchids), and an outdoor hoop house for the summer/Fall. I would like to emulate your shoe rack in my tent and green house....
    Would it be possible to do a short video explaining why you have your plants at each level of the rack, for example- you had your light loving species at the top and had the lower light plants toward the bottom. How did you determine where to place the specific plants- trial and error? Comparison between 2 plants (1 in shade the other in say 400ppfd)? Do you have measurements of the light intensity(par/ppfd) at each level of the grow tent (floor level vs top rack)?
    As any serious gardener knows, I would hate to lose a bunch of rare plants due to my lack of specific knowledge.
    Thank you for posting your videos they have been a tremendously helpful resource!

      @@Carnivorousplanthelp Thank you, it is quite the collection. I think I am doing everything correctly. I have several plants that appear to be doing very well (multiple new leaves and pitchers). There are some I am starting question if the plant is actually supposed to look the way it is.
      My two concers are N. burbidgeae x mira and "Suki" (rafflesiana x sibuyanensis) are going super red in the leaves. They are both producing new leaves and pitchers, but I have added shade cloth above them to cut the light intensity.
      I am glad to provide suggestions for content. This is an interesting side of the horticulture hobby, a bit more niche than most plants.
      I can't wait to get caught up with the videos. Thanks again!

    • @Carnivorousplanthelp
      @Carnivorousplanthelp  3 месяца назад

      The suki will turn red very easily as this is more the natural colors it will take on. The shade cloth will help reduce that for sure! Keep me posted on how the collection is going!

      The shade cloth over the 2 plants I was concerned with and a few companion ferns to create asymmetric lighting patterns has made a huge difference.
      I am shocked with how things have changed quickly for the best over the last month.
      If any newbies are reading this- don't worry! These plants are not as difficult to grow as I was led to believe. You are in the right place, CHM Carnivores knows his stuff.

    I got a grow tent and have mostly lowland to intermediate plants- I’m struggling to keep the temps and humidity consistent- the tent goes up to 89-92f in the day time and 76-79f at night- humidity ranges from 60-95- I use humidifier to raise humidity and then it just slowly drops and I repeat the process- I also have a circulation fan and a 4 inch exhaust- but I can’t get the temp to drop during the day without tanking the humidity - been working on this a month now and just can’t figure it out- any suggestions where to go for help?

    • @Carnivorousplanthelp
      @Carnivorousplanthelp  24 дня назад +1

      Hey! That is a problem I struggle with too. 60-95 is a good humidity though. I have mine running around 75. 60 is a bit low. You can try a humidistat to turn on the humidity once it gets below a certain point so you don’t have to keep it running all the time and manually checking it. You can also do a sprayer system that turns on periodically to help keep things moist. A third option is to keep the plants in trays of water but ensure the plants aren’t sitting in the water. So get a tray, place egg crate or something one wicking in the bottom, then sit the plants on that. This will allow for humidity through evaporation without getting roots wet. Although I don’t think this option will be necessary given the first two. One more thing. Make sure you have good circulation with fans in there especially if you are running the humidifier a lot. It will take a bit to get everything dialed in but I think the tent environment isn’t too far off for you.

      @@Carnivorousplanthelp i have an ultrasonic coolmist fogger- that helps, but my biggest issue is the temps. Right now i have the exhaust running twice a day for 10 min- do you think i should run it hourly for maybe 3 min and have the fogger follow it up for a couple minutes after it stops-- the exhaust could completely exchange the air on medium setting in under 2 mintues- i was also told to run the circulation fan with the fogger because it moves the fog around which increases the evaporation rate which in turn cools the air-- 90+F in the daytime is just too much

    • @Carnivorousplanthelp
      @Carnivorousplanthelp  23 дня назад +1

      @@jasonmonkas8690 yeah that could work for sure. Having the fan on when the fogger is going does help for sure. What I would do when I ran the fogger was have it in front of the fan. I run the fan continuously but when the fogger kicked on it would disperse throughout the tent. The other option is the sell a mini wet wall evaporation cooler that can be used for grow tents. My buddy got one and it makes a huge difference. The only problem is the cost. I think they run a couple hundred dollars.

      @@Carnivorousplanthelp ok so what ive done is from 12pm-8pm, every hour i have the exhaust turn on for 2 min, the circ fan 5 min and the fogger for 6 min-so in theory- the exhaust sucks air and humidity out in those 2 min with the circ fan going-- when the exaust turns off there is 3 min left on the circ fan and the fogger turns on for 6 min- so the fogger is off while exhaust runs- but half of the 6 min the fogger runs is with the circ fan and the last 3 the fogger runs alone.-- the exhaust fan just rips the fog right out- so no point in having the fogger run with the exhaust-- also btw i live in florida so its extra hot, the room the tent is in stays around 82-84f in the day during summer- i really cant get it any cooler or the rest of the house will be ice cold - there is a 5-10 degree diff between that room and the rest of the house- granted i do have almost all lowland and maybe a couple intermediate hybrids so is 90-91f 6 hours a day with 75-95% humidity to much do you think?

    • @Carnivorousplanthelp
      @Carnivorousplanthelp  9 месяцев назад

      Hey! In regards to the lighting, there are a ton of options out there. You can go with a name brand like Mars Hydro. These are good lights but a bit pricey. I personally use Ficeda with a lot of success. A 600W will run you around 45 dollars US. They can be attached together if you need more than one. In regards to temp drops. Most nepenthes don’t require this unless you are growing highland or ultra highland nepenthes. One way to do this is a swamp cooler. You can create your own or the sell swamp coolers at Lowe’s or Home Depot online that are small enough to fit into the side of a grow tent. It isn’t for everyone though but it does work with great success. Unfortunately night drops are the hardest thing to emulate in a grow tent. I have my tent in a A/C controlled room which helps. I grow intermediate so I don’t need to be concerned on that. I would love to grow some highlands but in Florida it is hot all the time!
