my grow tent experience is quite different. I bought it mainly because I don't want water splashes/accidents to damage the flooring, etc. So I had pump, tank anything water related inside the tent. Also, for water tank I use a medium size tall bucket (about 10 gal maybe) instead of a tote as it takes up too much space. I even hooked up pipe to my water line and installed a valve in the tank so it can auto fill. This fully automates the setup For light, I use magnetic hooks to hang it, and find that way easier when you need to adjust. For airflow, I have to install a extra exhaust fan, and it runs all day, on low setting. When the heat gets too high, I'll increase the speed to accelerate heat exchange with outside air
i just set up a grow tent on a much smaller scale its basicly just a shelf unit with four shelv es and a cover that goes over it has a mister in it and waiting for the grow lights and some 120mm PC fans ill be straping in carouys spots for air flow
I would recommend cannabis grow tent videos, Debacco university has good information on managing climates inside the tent I'm sure there will be something useful or some piece of information that will spark an idea
The problems I had was the lack of information regarding the right led grow lights. Finding lights that be daisy chained and the right wattage. Added confusion with light wattage, Par, lumens and foot candles. plus finding a cheap way of cooling the tent down at night particularly during the summer.
I was considering a grow tent but ended up with a version of a glass cabinet. My only reason is that I really like to look at the plants and I cant be bothered to go in a tent to look at them. The downside with this method is that the cabinet needs to be large enough to hold the larger plants - but, it works great with the smaller ones.
Hey man it’s been a while, I had a grow tent but it got mouldy so I threw it away, then I went to ikea and got some giant plastic boxes and they seem to be happy! Jesus loves you bro
LUXI just tested them and on the upper shelf it's 3729 LUX (PPFD 83, DLI 7.2) and on the lower shelf it's 3088 LUX (PPFD 70, DLI 6.0) but I tested with a phone app.
@@WindowsillNepenthes - right on. That’s good context. Brighter than I had expected. That should work well for your plants. I run mine at about 90-120ppfd and they do well
So your plants grow under stronger light than me and don't burn... Interesting! For me, it was the temperature building up too fast (before I removed 2 lights). 4x4 is tiny for sure.
@@WindowsillNepenthes - not much brighter. The upper “optimal range” for most nepenthes seems to be around 300-400ppfd. So you and I are not much different. No big deal
Like Remy said, an intake fan can be really effective to control this. The one downside to a fan is that it can hurt the humidity quick significantly while it's running, so I have a couple humidifiers hooked up to a humidistat that will auto turn on when the humidity drops to pretty effectively counteract this drop. A fan is also great for highlanders, where if you have it running intermittently at night and have the whole room drop below 15C, you can get these same temps in the tent.
I got one of my first Nepenthes and when I was potting it, I think I broke most of its roots off. It’s a baby plant and it’s roots super brittle. How can I help my plant heal after all this root damage?
@@WindowsillNepenthes ok the fan isn't specifically for cooling which is what I'm looking for. Do you have any recommendations so I can start growing highland nepenthes?
Well, maybe if the plants in the lower shelf are loving shadows but I think there is a high risk of not having enough light for the plants to produce pitchers.
It will depend on the size of the plants and the power of the light. Right now, I use it only to grow smaller plants, and it's fine, but as soon as they get too high, I need to move them away, like on the top shelf or between the shelves. 😉
Hello! I recently got a nepenthes alata and I have been thinking about breeding worms to save money. I have also been wanting to get earthworms for a compost material for my other plants. So, I was wandering if earthworms are as good as dried mealworms?
As much as that could be fun, I just have too much on my plate right now with RUclips interviews, videos, and personal stuff too. But thanks for the offer ☺️
Haha 😆 Next time I go to the lake I'll take my camera and try to show you carnivorous plants living here. S. Purpurea, Utricularia and maybe even Pinguicula. ;)
FYI: I filmed this 3 weeks ago and a few things already changed. I'll have to do an update 😉
I just made a tent yesterday! I just need to monitor it for a few weeks before I move in my nepenthes and Heliamphora!
Did you put a waterproof tarp under the tent? I'm working on a 3-monts update video right now :)
@@WindowsillNepenthes no it’s a small tent and has a waterproof bottom.

That sounds an interesting setup! Would you be ok doing an interview with me later? Like summer

Wowww 😮this is next on my wish list ! 🤭 definitely need this if I want to grow some bicals.

great video thank you. I wish my French was as good as your English!
It's not perfect, but thank you for the compliment! 😊
It’s looking great! Did you measure the PAR or footcandles? Do you know how much lights are the plants getting?

The water in the spray system, does it need to be distilled or rain water?
Oh yes, you need a very pure water if you don't want the sprayers to get clogged by the minerals.
What light did you use for your grow tent?
The T8 LED listed in the description ;)
I have a friend who got a growtent and I told him it would get really hot in there he got the whole $400 setup tent and it was like 85⁰ in there 😆
Oh for sure... I had to take 2 lights out. Totally underestimate how much the heat build up in a tiny closed space.

It's ok, under good care (light and humidity) your plant will naturally regrow roots, it's a little bit like a cutting that would root. ;)
What type of grow lights will not break in a nepenthes grow tent? I need one that can handle a strong misting system. Thanks in advance!
I don't know but any water proof light would works. For aquarium or not.
7:22 I've been looking for something like this. Care to give me a link to it?
All the links are in the description ;)

@@vivimannequin Then you need a inline cooling fan but they are not cheap. Check this one: amzn.to/3YERQOY
If I have shelves can I only have one light on the top because the tent is reflective?

I don't see why that wouldn't be a good food. :)
@@WindowsillNepenthes Ok thanks!
Well you need some decent lighting for a start and I can see you are currently missing that element.
But I know a few growers doing just the same. What good grow light do you recommend?
Always great videos remy! Thanks. Any chance you would be interested in doing a live greenhouse / windowsill tour in our carnivorous plant discord?

Too much time indoors. Let’s see Remy eating a beaver tail and skating on the ice; like Gretzky.
