Great advice man, ignore all these ppl saying it’s bs, if they wanna blow twice the amount of money on replacing sticks and cymbals that’s in them. Been drumming for 11 years now and this technique is key for anyone wanting to take their drumming to the next level. 👍🏻
So I have a question, lets say I have song in 138 BPM, and I need to play 8th notes on the crash. Is it okay to do small moller movements? I'm not hacking into it with full force but I am doing one hit with the edge of the stick and one with the tip. Is that okay, and if not, how should I do it?
Thanks for the comment and engaging with the video! I’ve seen Steve Smith do this, Todd Sucherman talks about it, Drumeo talks about it as well, and I’m sure there are other much more accomplished drummers than me talking about it.
@@zoohuman So Todd Sucherman was actually named Modern Drummer's Progressive Rock Drum of the Year and he says this better than I ever could: ruclips.net/video/YU5_NJfNunQ/видео.html. That link should take you to around 48 minutes and 50 seconds into the video. You can see how Todd glances on and off the cymbals with this technique. This isn't to say you can't go big with tons of energy on the drums when you're really rocking out. You totally can, but I think you'd be surprised at the number of big name drummers who are known for moving around with a ton of energy, but who also have this solid technical base and underneath all of the motion and energy is really healthy technique like this that keeps things breathing and sounding musical, not to mention keeps the gear lasting much longer.
@@tempoleaguedrums Thomas lang, one of the best drummers to have ever lived doesn't do this. All I'm saying is that when you're going really fast it's not practical, it's going to get in the way of your progression.
@@zoohumanThomas lang is heavily endorsed by meinl meaning if he breaks a cymbal it doesn’t matter because he can call them up and get it within that day for free.
Hey people, look at Dave Grohl, Chad Smith, Taylor Hawkins, John Bonham, even jazz cats like Buddy Rich, nobody "swipes" at their symbols; That's just BS. To "swipe" at your symbols may be the "proper" way to play -- it is BS, no one does that. Just hit the symbols, on angle, with the shoulder of the stick; now you are drumming.
Thanks for the comment, Christian. Had a conversation about this in the comments already with ZOoHuMaN so I won’t rehash everything. But paging Todd Sucherman for a bit of back up here :) ruclips.net/video/YU5_NJfNunQ/видео.html
you're confidently incorrect, if you had ever taken drum classes you would have been taught this. The video showcases a correct way of hitting the cymbals although exaggerated. Maybe you should slow down some videos of your amazing examples of drummers and see that they actually swing off to the side just before they hit the cymbal because that's how they actually teach you to do it.

Well said, thanks for checking out the video 🙏🏻
Thanks man, this was great!👍
You got it! Thanks for checking out the channel
Thank you... Watching this video before buying new cymbals!
You bet! Glad you’re finding it useful

Yea I’d say that’s great, as long as it sounds good, you are keeping your hands healthy, and you’re not ruining your gear, you’re good to go
Swish and Flick.
No bro, bad advice. If you're a real drummer you would never do anything like that.🇺🇸🤨

@@tempoleaguedrums That's probably fine at 50 BPM, but if you want to play extreme progressive music this is not the way to go.

Those guys can all afford a gazillion new ones should they get a breakage.
