It's interesting to see how Bond finishes quite a way away from his body. He doesn't use much with the arms compared to Murray and much more with the body.
@@emmad7123In the pair specifically, if the rowers are perfectly in sync you'd shake the boat a smidge for each stroke. Its more efficient to have stroke have a strong beginning of the stroke and bow have a stronger end of the stroke to keep the power more directly forward.
You can tell that GB's bowman is dying. Look at 7:27, when it flashes to the overhead camera, and how rapidly GB is moving towards the starboard-side buoys. They go from fairly central in the lane to almost on the buoys in about 12 seconds. Notice at the end with the "finish line camera" that GB is actually on the wrong side of their lane marker--the buoys aren't visible from the shore because they're now on the port side of the shell, i.e. GB is in NZ's lane. (Either that, or their steering is abysmal, but I'm banking on the former.)
Rob Clark Yes later on I thought of that..."maybe the GB bowsman came out strong and was maintaining the same pressure at the end, whereas the stroke seat killed the sprint." Definitely a possibility.
Bart Thompson Also, I wonder how much staying straight would have helped their finish and if they could have stayed in silver. Probably not enough, but it makes me wonder.
look at nash after the race, certainly looks like hes done in while satch looked alright. I reckon they sprinted and satch realised he was pulling it round and backed off slightly. Been there plenty myself
First oly's for both the British, with less than a year together, and both not long out of u23's. Quite impressive to even be in the running for a medal in a small boat.
It is obvious this commentator has never called many rowing races. Its seems a shame that they didn't have the normal commentators of the FISA world cup and world champs.
I don't think he's bad. In such a "boring" race with the lead the kiwi's had it's hard to commentate solely on the current standings of the race, since they went pretty much unchanged along the course.
@@elijahdockery8120 one must start and finish in the same lane and should not “leave” one’s lane and interrupt other competitors race. If you look at the GB boat last 250 m (lane 5) you may notice that they are almost on kiwi’s lane. So they could theoretically crash into them Hope i explained it for you ;)
I'll never forget looking at the betting odds for the kiwi pair to win. The TAB in New Zealand was paying out 3 cents on the dollar (1.03) for the win. It was that much of a certainty in peoples minds. Not worth the bet in my opinion as the chance of an oar snapping or catching a crab is great than the 3 cents but still, comically low odds! Well done NZ and everyone else in that final.
Eric Murray and Hamish Bond, simply another category.
Absolute power duo. History in the making
It's interesting to see how Bond finishes quite a way away from his body. He doesn't use much with the arms compared to Murray and much more with the body.
Doesn’t that shorten the stroke though?

Hamish Bond probably would have won the single sculls - they were that good.
Love how the coaches tear along side on their bikes. :)
Nash was utterly gone at the end, just totally exhausted. It's his first olympics though, so a massive performance from him!
I mean if you’re not totally exhausted at the end you’re not doing it fight
9:15 how is nash casually rowing with a gold watch aha

Bart Thompson Either the bowman gave in or George Nash went crazy, he's a stupidly strong rower

Honestly he could have just messed up the steering at that point. When your so tired in a race it can easily happen.

Yas Aotearoa. Proud of your win. Keep making our small country proud 🇳🇿

Canada's start seemed to be at an amazingly high stroke rate, even compared to the other crews.
Dominated!. the double skulls was a hearty win for NZ as well

What did he do wrong?
@@adamatch9624 We don't need the long history of the people. We don't need to know who is up front. We need to know the why and how.

Those boys are a wee bit stronger then me. I'll settle for splashing around Lake Union in slow motion.
Hey another Seattleite!
how many times did you watch this?
me: Yes
GB's steering in the last 250 may have cost them silver, dont want to be in the Kiwi's wash
or the buoys
If Kiwis weren’t so far away they would have been disqualified
@@toffeemel2235 I don’t know a lot about rowing, why would they have been disqualified?

Living legends!
i rowed with them XD most amazing experience
Brits thought they'd pop into the Kiwi's lane at the end. Just to congratulate them easier, you know.

Do you use 2 toothbrushes at once?
