      Very true! Weather is finally getting cooler here in FL so you got that right. We’ll keep working on them and hopefully get em running decent

    when trouble shooting.. Rule of thumb is start from simple and move on to the difficult. (from cheap to expensive)
    One thing at a time... And patience.
    The Popeye sounded a bit rough out of the water... But that could just be the wind and the mic saturation 🤷‍♂️
    If you're running an angle... I'd start with simply going back to neutral position.
    Once she got on plane she looked like a real full scale hydro... And true to its form.. She cavitated until she got the lift.
    For the Dominator.. Your set up with the heavy esc and heavy packs forward of the motor.. Does not work to her benefit.
    Try running the esc as far back as possible
    Nuetral strut position... Then go from there.
    Thats just what I would do.. Both boats seemed fine. For the most part... Just a bit of tuning to dial them back in
    Thats why boating is an acquired taste.. There are days you go out and nothing works.. And you're either back in the trailer.. Or packing the car right back up with model boats.

      You’re definitely right, sometimes the boats are a blast and sometimes they bite ya. Only thing with the dom is it’s a rail mounted setup and would be a ton of work to pull out the mounts and remount to run the lipos to the side of the esc. It is a big heavy esc, debating pulling the x8s from the bj24 and running it in this boat to get the lipos a little farther back and cut a few ounces in weight. There were some other good suggestions mentioned so will try all of those and hope for the best

      @@VetteWay2Fast just make longer connecter and run the esc to the side of the motor
      That way you'll be able to strap and velcro your batteries.. Even if they're sitting a bit in the esc platform
      Leave the batteries up front.. Try and run 5000 nah packs to start.. Then gradually up the weight of the packs..
      Again this is only what I would do.. Others might have different thoughts in the matter.
      Either way.. Keep at it and you'll eventually figure out what the culprit is.

    Thats strut position on the hydro sounds to be positive a bit! It could have moved or wacked out of alignment! Try facing it down and it could be the prop! I ran into a similar issue last week and i changed the prop and the issue got better! Hope this helps

      @VetteWay2Fast  День назад +1

      Could be, it ran pretty good on the high rake but was a little to much prop and temps were a little high. I’ll play around with some other props and strut angle though, appreciate it

    Well, B, me and others have working setups for dom. I run lighter and high kv 6-8s setup for instance but settings like strut are near identical. So "easy way" is to look at B's video's... He ran hi kv first and low kv now so that could help to choose what you want with it and then prop choice is next thing. But 35 is crazy slow, so there is something off. I personally would ditch the motor first because you will end up changing it. That's what i assume at least since you put an xlx2 in it...

    • @VetteWay2Fast
      @VetteWay2Fast  День назад

      Yea I was surprised. Expected a good bit slower than the 8s run, but 35 lol. Gonna try what everyone’s mentioned so far and go from there. If it’s still pretty slow, may just swap out the electronics for a lighter system. Not sure if I’m gonna go for speed runs on this one just yet. Thanks, I’ll prob check out his playlist for the dom as well

      @VetteWay2Fast i don't want to be a dic.... But if your not sure about the way you want to go a x8s is plenty for runs from 65-90mph and a 4082 to 4092 the motor i would suggest. If want to run 6s around 1900-2100kv, 8s in range off 1500-1700kv. Propwise you will end up in the 43-50mm range. I think these are more "common" ranges and that is the way i went. But off course the choice is up to you. There are a lot off ways to get to a certain speed...

      All good man, I appreciate all the info I can get. Been into rc’s for a long time, but mainly just bashing trucks and racing the 10th scale cars. Only fairly recently got into boats and the prop nuances/maxing out electronics is still fairly new to me so soaking up as much as I can. I debated posted this vid as I knew it was gonna show my lack of knowledge lol, but figured what the heck, started the channel to go through the process and thought I can’t be afraid to show the fails and “downs” if ya know what I mean. Thanks again for the info and I may throw the x8s in it to cut some weight soon.

      @VetteWay2Fast i'm from same background. First cars and since couple off years boats. Didn't know B not few years ago so practically had to make myself wise by reading, vieuwing, asking and experiment to get were im am. Think it is the best way to learn. And buying a good rtr props or learn to balance and work them yourself is important. Its just like tires, can have lots off power, but when you can't get it on the street is useless... Btw, there is no shame in asking...!

    • @VetteWay2Fast
      @VetteWay2Fast  День назад +1

      Yea his vids have been great, actually just ordered a prop balancer with the longer cooling jacket to start working on them. We raced mainly stock class, so data logging and maxing out higher end esc’s and motors is new. Boats are a different animal compared to just tweaking suspension, ride height, tires and gear ratios with the blue printing, props, polishing, tuning etc but it’s cool there are channels and people in the community that take the time to help out the guys starting out. Thanks again for the info!

  • @IRONCLADRC
    @IRONCLADRC День назад

    I think the stock 4519 is the reason your only doing 35, a cnc aluminum 4519 may be better than stock.
    I run my water pickups 1-2mm higher than the ride surface. Below the bottom will slow the boat down.
    You can Cut about a 1/4" -1/2" off the rudder that will help and you wont loose and steering attorney
    Make sure the keel/ride pad is dead nuts flat, if it has a hook or dip in it, sand it out & or fill the dip, make sure its flat.
    Octura m series has always been good on that hull, Octura 6 series is good also.

      Cool I’ll try those, appreciate it. Have you ever seen a prop cavitate that bad? Was running a high rake on the Popeye before and ran good but was a little to much prop for ovals and temps would creep up. Guess this is definitely not the right one lol

    • @IRONCLADRC
      @IRONCLADRC День назад

      @VetteWay2Fast yes I have had props that just cavitate and never got on plane either to small or to much pitch.
      The above recommendations are major mods that I eventually did to my dominator to get best performance.

    • @VetteWay2Fast

  • @RCanythingRC
    @RCanythingRC День назад

    That strut angle on the popeye looked to have to much positive (up) angle. Did you see the way it wanted to torque right out of the water? Its lifting the nose. Bad cavitation would come with that. Maybe the old prop had alot more lift, carrying the back to counter the nose.
    On the Dominator, Check the windings on the back of the motor with a flashlight to see if they got burned up. They would be dark and not shiny. Other wise, PROP UP! 1700kv on 6s you should be able to do ovals on 45mm and saw runs on 50ish. Good luck

    You don't want a high rake on the popeye. Point the strut down (negative) to raise the rear of the boat. So only the front sponsons are in the water and prop when at speed. What KV is in the popeye 2075?
    I'd swap motors in the boats. Run the popeye with the lower KV and a 38mm 3 blade on 6s. Put the other motor on the Dom with that 42mm prop on 6s.

    • @VetteWay2Fast
      @VetteWay2Fast  День назад +1

      @@RCAddiction805 I can’t remember off hand the kv in the Popeye but I’ll check when I get home, probably around 2000. I just realized the dom has a 1480kv in it since I was planning to run it on 8s, likely one of the reasons or a contributing factor to it being so slow. I’ll adjust the strut on the Popeye more negative with a 3 blade and see what happens, think I have one around that size laying around. May try throwing a 3674 higher kv in the dom since I have a few of those on hand and run 6s. Could swap them in the future, appreciate the suggestion!

    Nice boats but you have to tell us what size props and what pitch.. the Popeye sounded really bad like you haven't Grease the shaft.. looks like it has a 1.9 pitch about a 42 mm 1.9 is geared high a 1.4 pitch is geared low it will pop your boat up out of the water faster come off the line faster but have a lower top speed a 1.9 will take longer to get it up to speed and depending on how big it is because it's geared higher and pushing less water.. so it can wind up to top RPM is for top speed.... The dominator looks like it's got a 1.6 pitch the gold props which is a good in between you got to prop it up if you want to go faster but then you got to watch your temperatures.... You need to watch more prop videos ironclad and everybody else on props .... Full trigger full triggerrrrr.. but what's your temperatures..

    • @VetteWay2Fast
      @VetteWay2Fast  День назад

      I usually grease the shafts every other run, this was its second outing so was probably a little dry. May need to grease everytime for this boat and ditched the teflon when I switched the cable to a 1 piece from the stock 2 piece. Yea, definitely didn’t sound the best.
      Appreciate the info on the props, good analogy on the gearing in reference to pitch. I’ll have to check out some more vids on props as I have pretty limited knowledge on them, been kinda testing out a few and seeing what works. When I find one that works, I’ll pay more attention to its pitch for future prop tries for a given boat and if it runs well, try to stay at a similar pitch and maybe up the diameter.

      Does the Popeye have bearings at the end I just got a Popeye the e22 and has bearings I've got two other boats with bearings the wl915 and the cobra the bearings will rust if you don't clean them and oil them after every run if there's any water on them I didn't clean an oil my Cobra bearings for 2 weeks then I took it apart and the rear bearings to the end Rushed so the Cobra and the wl915 I can slide off the flex shaft I soak them in synthetic amsoil that I run in my cars for a couple hours and then put it back together but I see the Popeye you can't slide off the flex shaft it has to go out the rear but I don't want to take the drive dog off every time to get the bearings off, I am going to get a tube to soak them in like a test tube.. on the props the 1.4 pitch is what I run for just doing circles and playing around that pitch will make the boat really quick but for speed runs Iran 1.9 pitch.. but I like doing circles closer to me smaller ones your pond that looks like you can do really big ones so you can use the higher pitch to get the higher speed...

      @VetteWay2Fast  23 часа назад

      @@scottwhizz2733 I'm not sure if the strut has bearing or bushings, i'll check when I get home if I remember. I replaced the 2 piece flex cable it came with for a 1 piece. 2 pieces are nice so you don't lose the prop if the shaft snaps but a pain for maintenance. Haven't snapped a .187 cable yet, snapped a few .150's though. You can always pull the strut off instead of the drive dog if it makes it easier. Not a bad idea to check them though and give them some oil if its bearings.
