Charisma is important as well as brains and competency, because the PM has to liaise with other countries and needs to understand the nuances between cultures. I love that Liz brought up Japan’s high level of government debt when she was talking about tax cuts. That is NOT an economic module that one should aspire to emulate. If you read a book, or even the Wikipedia article on Japan’s economy you would know that the country has been borrowing excessively for decades in an effort to kick start inflation and get out of a 30 year economic slump 🥴 Literally, common knowledge. Canada borrowed more money than any other developed country during the pandemic yet the economy has underperformed…sooo yeah Rishi's not scaremongering, or part of 'Project Fear'...💀
High Gov. borrowing does not have a link to mortgage rates, that's how Rishi is 'fear mongering'. The Gov. debt is not nearly as big a deal as these politicians are stating, we have the same conversations about debt every 3-4 years and never get a surplus. It just doesn't matter as much as they always claim. The UK has had less than 10 surpluses in the last 70 years or so, and yet we aren't drowning and unable to borrow anymore....
Restructuring the duration of COVID debt is not only sensible for a one in one hundred year event, it has many precedents f.e we have recently settled WWI debt. Reducing taxes also tends to increase tax revenues, precedents are the RoI and counter example France under Hollande. Sunak went native at the Treasury and their failed Keynesian philosophy, raising taxes is never a solution when times get tough, unwind QE and reduce the money supply, let interest rates find a new level and reduce taxes, that’s how Moneterism will reduce inflation and promote growth.
Then why did you elect Boris Johnson? He was born in the US. You mean the British don't elect a Prime Minister with brown skin am I right ? If a person is born anywhere in North America or Europe he becomes eligible to contest as PM as long as he or she is white?
YASIN..... what about giving RELIEFs to all citizens,,, will this be shared as you suggest tax percentage ,,, if not why would rich would INVEST and create JOBs for those who are not willing to work or pay taxes ,,,,, he will enjoy being POOR
Tax the 'old rich', not the 'new rich'. old rich are rich because they inherited wealth from parents. 'new rich' are the ones who worked their buttocks off and became rich within 10-15 years.
What a difference a month makes. I guess Rishi Sunak's economics are being adapted by her newest chancellor to save the country from economic catastrophe.
Well, Truss said the words, so I am terrified of what could happen if she wins. She said "project fear". Last time we heard that, project fear became project reality and I think Sunak on this is right and not at all fear mongering. We need to stop building debt. That's bad.
You are right, but it's not right either to burden ordinary working tax payers with repaying a debt that basically filled the pockets of the connected rich and wealthy (NHS private contracts/Covid response/Housing development - all scams that syphoned off public funds into private pockets) through disgusting economic choices of a bunch of privileged profiteers.
@@Aprilforevergreen Oh, yes. I am not going to be the one defending Sunak's decisions as chancellor with U-turns every two seconds and buffing NI dramatically. Just suggesting that Sunak's approach to this is a thousand times better than Truss, who comes across as absolutely clueless in economy. And everything else, to be honest. Her policies are plain and simple the same as Boris Johnson, which are the policies that took us here.
people relate more with fear and crisis debate than any other debate, that's why Trump lost for Biden despite that Trump was very effective for USA than Biden who is just a smart mouth
He's absolutely right 100%,Cutting tax for the rich it doesn't add up any job in y personal opinions & look the pound is going down 👇 and it might go down 👇 again Even , lowest or middle class pay tax VAT not business owner, imagine z lower and middle class pay tax on their wages, & pay Vat for everything that they bought from food up to higher accessories like, car and soon !!! That men have reason, even tho he's rich but support working class cos he knows the process!!!
How embarrassing and childish. Why are we allowing these public servants to conduct this cheap American style debate? They should both be working toward getting the UK back onto the international stage, not acting like children on stage!
How they conduct themselves reveals loads more than just the words they speak during this . Sunak is too pushy and overbearing and Truss is calm and measured.
Imagine thinking you can tell an ex-Goldman Sachs analyst and Chancellor that he's somehow more wrong about the financial market than you are. He can be wrong on many other things, but not this one!
It's a matter of reason not about who worked where at sometime. I mean, Goldman Sachs caused major problems in 2008 and got many things wrong through the years. Rishi was just reasonable
@Mol Ok Lol, last time I looked he was born in Southampton, thought that made him English? He's a Fulbright Scholar too, how many English people were Fulbright Scholars? Too funny!
Think that Oxford was less important than the training that Goldman Sachs gave him to scam a few millions in hedge fund speculation tactics though.. iugh!
Rishi should have coloured his hair blonde and dabbed his face with a bright powder/cream if he wanted to be the PM 😂🤣 ... Common sense makes no sense 👍👍
Never understand how having a harder line towards China is so important for being a UK PM. Shouldn’t they focus on collapsing living standard in this Country? Solve the inflation and housing affordability for example?
Well most part of the debate went into solving inflation, if you watched all of it, you knew. But foreign issues shouldn´t be completely spared, I think, nevertheless.
Housing affordability can only be fixed by stopping or limiting immigration. It's the number 1 issue that affects the average joe in the UK and yet you won't hear a single word about it in a debate or in the news. Because waycisttttttttt
@@CharlieWingate1 a lot of pusturing with very little actually happening. I mean if Truss (and by extension the previous gov) is happy working with the Saudis I don't see why China is a "step too far"
I got a piece of advice for you Brits. Rishi is by far the better option of the two. The man knows his stuff. Agree or disagree with him. As for Liz Truss, im not sure she knows what she's talking about. Choose the less worse, that's just what I have to say
That's not better, because that means he's capable of manipulating the voters into gaing support back to the party and simply blaming Boris rather than the conservative party as a whole. Then we end up right back where we started. With Liz, the farce contnues until the next GE where people can lose faith and actually vote for a progressive party that creates real change.
The only tax cut will be for the well off. Bet the landlords will come out of this laughing. Why is rent higher than a mortgage in many places. And why are mortgages being turned down for those renting at a higher cost of the repayment. Our system is stuffed.
I’m a landlord, and I agree with you. I do make a profit on my houses, as it’s a business. But I make sure I don’t put my tenants out. In fact I save enough, for when the pandemic happened. I let 3 of my tenants stay for free for 2 years until they got back on to their feet again. I know so many more landlords helped tenants. Even tho we lost out. The government did not help us. We had to help ourselves.
@@zizib00m and my landlord declined to decrease the rent during pandemic. I'm a foreigner. WFH started since the pandemic started so I went back to my country for 2 years but was still paying rent. I couldn't leave the house because I've lot of stuff and company can call us back anytime. Now I'm back & have changed the apartment.
We need a leader who will make some genuinely tough choices and tax the rich and increase services for everyone else, not the usual easy choice of cutting tax for the rich and making everyonebody else pay for it.
I think we need a land tax. If you have land you pay for how much land you own. can it get any fairer than that ? The rich don't pay income tax elon musk doesn't even take a salary.
"The US, Canada and Japan all have higher debt than the UK". Oh well there we go then, a perfectly sensible reason to raise the UK's debt. Debt is obviously a race to the highest amount and Truss is gunning for the top spot. I'm worried we're going to get Thatcher 2.0 at this rate.
Did he carefully scrutinise where all the money 💰 spent during covid went, billions wasted cronies of Ministers getting contracts. We need to know from him and Truss just what went on.

Only rushi sunak is tough on china Lizz truss shut down there mouth on Tibet issue because Lizz truss is Chinese agent
Canada is resource rich in raw materials.
UK isn't.
High Gov. borrowing does not have a link to mortgage rates, that's how Rishi is 'fear mongering'. The Gov. debt is not nearly as big a deal as these politicians are stating, we have the same conversations about debt every 3-4 years and never get a surplus. It just doesn't matter as much as they always claim. The UK has had less than 10 surpluses in the last 70 years or so, and yet we aren't drowning and unable to borrow anymore....
agreed
Restructuring the duration of COVID debt is not only sensible for a one in one hundred year event, it has many precedents f.e we have recently settled WWI debt. Reducing taxes also tends to increase tax revenues, precedents are the RoI and counter example France under Hollande. Sunak went native at the Treasury and their failed Keynesian philosophy, raising taxes is never a solution when times get tough, unwind QE and reduce the money supply, let interest rates find a new level and reduce taxes, that’s how Moneterism will reduce inflation and promote growth.
truss:"US has more debt than us"
sunak:"their mortgage rate is 50% higher"
truss:"that's scaremongering"

Her policies are plain and simple the same as Boris Johnson, which are the policies that took us here.

The Americanization of our politics is something to be very concerned about.
Exactly, presidential style debates are not suitable for parliamentary government. Which believes in collective responsibility of cabinet.
Why does it always have to be a cheap American one, when we know what goes on in other countries (esp. Russia a friend of trumps ) .

'The brits' dont get a choice its up to what the members of the conservative party vote for unfortunately
It's not to be decided by direct vote.
