Do you need all the hardware or is it just for that speaker?

the adapter isn't necessary, but it will help the new speaker fit tightly. Also it allows for the speaker depth to be longer since the adapter looks like it's about 1 inch thick

That sound system will sound much better if you put some sound-deadening material all around the speaker or the entire door.
