In all fairness to Pickett he did have a crap OC for 2 years. Not saying he did not under perform for a first round pick but it was not because he had great OC and he just played terrible. Just saying situation wise Pickett was not given great coaching.

It only destroys his credibility if you don't understand the job. He's reporting on what he hears from those sources. He's not guessing. He's not laying bets. He's going with what he's told - that's the reporter's job.
I'm curious how you know that his sources with the team weren't saying EXACTLY what he reported previously. I mean, these are people that he knows and you don't. He can call Dan Rooney, Omar Khan, and Mike Tomlin. He can call Kenny Pickett, Russell Wilson, and Justin Fields. You can't. So how are you so sure he got it "wrong"?

Gerry Dulac not exactly right about anything lately
Dulac is literally the mouthpiece for the team, he knows Tomlin very well personally. What he says is what the Steelers organization wants him to say, and that is not necessarily the truth. They don't want him just giving away all their accurate info about what they want to do. He knows exactly who they are targeting and who they aren't, but the team does not want the public or other teams to know that.
Just like Khan and Tomlin said after the Bill's playoff game "we believe our starting qb for next year is currently in our building." That was obviously a lie, whether they were talking about Kenny or Mason. It's all just misdirection. Dulac is super valuable to listen to and a true insider, but you really have to parse what he is saying thoroughly and be skeptical, because he is effectively the team's public media personality.
Tomlin has one year to make this work, or he needs to be replaced.

Why should anyone believe anything this guy said after he adamantly told you that the Steelers wouldn’t be interested in Wilson, Fields or anyone else? This guy said they were rolling with Pickett and we are supposed to take what he says as gospel?
Because at the time it was true. He got that from his sources. At the time, they weren't interested. But things with Wilson opened up and things with Pickett deteriorated quickly. It happens in free agency. People need to understand how both business and journalism work, I swear.

Because he is a mouthpiece for the Steelers. He did say that and he knew for a fact he was lying, just like Khan and Tomlin lied about the same thing multiple times in press conferences. He actually knows exactly what the Steelers want to do, he is good friends with Tomlin, and the Steelers use him to say what they want to the public. He could be lying, he could be telling the truth, but he definitely knows who and what the Steelers want to target. So take what he says with a grain of salt, he is not trying to accurately report factual information, he is simply being a public mouthpiece for the organization.
Though I will say that I do believe when the playoffs ended their intention was fully to bring Mason and Kenny back. Then when Russ was available so cheap they had to go for it.

I think the Rooneys finally figured out the just above .500 record every year giving away to a crappy draft position is getting them no where on top of losing playoff games and to teams with2-10 records that they better spend some freaking money already unless they really love seeing a HC go the HOF with 17+ non losing seasons that are average with no more super bowls to show for it

This should honestly be Mike Tomlin’s final chance to prove he should be the head coach. I doubt the Rooney’s will oblige but the man has had numerous opportunities to make noise in the playoffs but has been beyond underwhelming.

I would like to see them hold off on any kind of extention until he earns it on the field. I get that he is a player's favorite .... but this isn't a popularity contest. The H/C has to be able to push/motivate the team to get results. I felt the lack of discipline on the field last season was because the players felt 'safe' to act out without recourse. Football is a team game that requires the individual to buy 'in' and play for the man beside you in order for the whole to be successful. You can dance when you are holding the trophy....until then...stick to business.

Nope. They’re going this year. This squad is more loaded than the one Russ had his rookie year, and he almost took that one to the SB. Believe it or not, Russ got better every year of his career. He just had some setbacks with Denver.
