  • God’s ultimate freedom to show mercy and to harden whom He wishes is an essential aspect of His glory. Therefore, if He were constrained in His choices or obligated to act according to human standards, it would not only contradict His freedom but also diminish His glory, rendering Him unrighteous. In fact, for God to act in any way other than freely choosing whom He wills-whether to show mercy or to harden-would compromise His righteousness, because His very nature is defined by His sovereign freedom to act according to His perfect will.
