This is your legacy, Arith. Sharing the knowledge u have with us, with your community. You are suggesting it and living it. I see u for the selfless servant u are, Arith, and promise you every hospitality i can muster if u ever find yourself at my door.
I recently carved an othala with hugin and munin in either side. A few months later, now, find myself in a period of great change and re-evaluation of my entire life.. centered on doing whats truly right for my true self. And then u posted this video. Almost seems custom made or divinely organized.
    Much love, Older Brother.

Arith i see Othala every day. I am a völva and i call myself Freyja Þorunn Týrdottir. I am born to help others and each day if i do not help someone i feel as if my life has no meaning. My father was a policeman and i became policewoman however our police system has for the most part been overrun by corrupt police officers with prominent gang members spreading their filth within. Being female Thor i am so angry at all this but is affecting my family and have been off sick until the end of December. I know there is a ragnarok at play now, the Age of Aquarius. There is a great fight between good and evil. Othala is so very important to each and every person on Mother Earth. There is so much to do to preserve Earth from its impending doom. Am a very optimistic person still, and i know that good WILL triumph over evil.

I just went back to Rune divination after months of dreaming of Ravens and an old man (I stopped reading runes 4 years ago and now it calls me back).
I got this in the reversed position and when I used an app to review each of the meanings, I felt something wasn't right so I searched for Othala reversed meaning and heard your beautiful explanation.
Thank you for being part of this journey

I met this rune in a Mayan kin reading. (
it gives you information from your birthday)
As I started researching Othala, each new piece of information had more meaning for me.
The traditions and knowledge of my ancestors are important to me, I am Mexican and studying archeology. I try to express the loyalty to my ancestors with patriotism and whit the desire of social justice.
    thanks for the info!

@@rdpmackie the far leftists, as far as I have been able to determine, are puppets of a more powerful group and/or entity that desires stagnation through ignorance to maintain their power. If it must suffer the chaos of it's own followers, so be it. It can just blame the suffering on it's enemy and the mob will charge onward blindly and never questioning. The smarter ones even project their ignorance onto others, pretending to be the smart ones while repeating statements that were debunked as falsehood decades prior or sometimes by their own statement (see fact checking: they will add extraneous context that was not present in the original claim and debunk the claim as a whole while admitting to the claim as given by the claimant).

On honour;honour compels us to "defend" up to the point of direct agression your person.
One story accounts of how,in medieval times those who wanted wars warped this concept wich they allready discovered in the human psyche named"selfpreference".A natural healthy tool for humanity,it is simply in the order of selfpreservation. But the powers that wère diëfied pascifism,so they needed a trick to make the people warlike. So they named this natural attribute selfpreference"honour",a quality on wich they could appeal nationwise.Soon knights duelled to settle a "dishonour".To the point where Louis 14 had to forbid it 'cause so many of his fighters died in peacetime."The duellist",a movie from the 80ies shows portaits this.Starring Harvey Keitel.

Not the same spelling but the same meaning and understand and both carrying the same sound flow, Othala Alāla a Seed with roots you plant as you sing your Worksong and grow a better life
The Babylonian word Alāla the divinized work
song Alāla which was frequently voiced by plowmen or
farmers in contexts of plowing the field. Enlil, whose name was pronounced Illil in the first millennium, could be identified (because of the similar sound patterns of their names) with the god da-la-la, a deity embodying the alālu-worksong, ulāla (“the feeble”) and the “purification” (ullulu) of Ištar-votaries during the sixth Babylonian month Ulūlu.
It means to plow down the old and grow new off the old the growth cycle, planting new seeds. A song of life
A great video love once again

When I see Othala I wince because here in the states as least (I cannot speak to other places), Othala is tattooed on folks that don't embody building community and home through welcoming compassion and extending that to our entire species and our planet. Fascists, I mean Fascists. You want to see Othala, go to a protest and you will see it with NAZIS. It is so wrong and sad. So limiting. So toxic.

But I have another belief about the end of Elder Futhark I believe that the final Rune is Othala cause Inguz is the latent creative energy as something is in Oven cooking and it will manifest when the time is right, as also kundalini energy fire of creativity and as Dna Inguz with the symbol v crossing not the square symbol as 2 snakes crossing. So after Inguz obviously dagaz as enlightment joyful deep realization or connecting everthing etc and then Othala the home Ancestors lineage the journey has been done😊🌀🌈

This makes more sense to maintain the circlic balance of existence and falls in line with my belief of reincarnation - when you have attained all that you will achieve in this life it is time to move on to the next life, to new adventures and new lessons that you cannot experience in your present personality (incarnation).

It's quite simple really, I do believe ignorance is one of the worst things, it is the bane of all societies, so the only thing I want is to give unbiased knowledge as much as it is possible in historical and archaeological terms (not in these rune series, as these are my own esoteric approach to them, of course, but also trying to give a meaning and purpose to be applied to our modern days). Racism is ignorance, there's no other way around it, so I'll fight against it, obviously.

So many books! The runes should be approached and understood personally, as Óðinn asks us in Hávamál/rúnatál. If you want to explore them for yourself, the oldest known interpretations and origins and sources could be of help for a start. 'The History Of Runic Lore' by Lars Magnar Enoksen (Scandinavian Heritage Publications, 2011) might be of help. Bought my copy on the Wardruna fansite a few years ago.

I have a question and I figured this could be the place to ask.
Q: I'm looking for a good book on the runes , their backgrounds, mythos, and meanings in the most traditional and not mixed with all the Christian stuff added later or any of the new age woo woo stuff. I'm looking for the book to go with the elder futhark runes (English translation) . Not to insult anyone but I'm looking for as traditional and historical as possible translation/description and meanings, without all the made up new age stuff or other religious ideas mixed in. I've considered that I may have to write my own book on the meanings after looking only to find a bunch of nonsense that has very little to do with the traditional meanings and are instead a bunch of unfounded made up stuff from people who don't even understand the most basic things about the culture , traditions much less spiritual practices and just make up fantastical b's.
But I have a lot going on in my life right now and writing my own book will be far to time consuming at this point. I don't need the runes as I am making my own as the fates saw fit to bring me just what I needed without my asking . So if anyone thinks they know of such a book and would be kind enough to share your suggestions I would be quite thankful.
I thought I would share the story about how the pieces for the runes found themselves to me since I found it interesting and somehow tied to the fates.
I'll start by mentioning that my mother recently was able to buy some mostly wooded acreage and build a small home in the countryside near some glacial fresh water lakes where she loves to walk the shores. This past winter the ice, snow and storms ended up washing up stones not seen by humans in at least 500 years. So as she is out walking the shoreline she's finding all these beautiful stones flat with soft rounded sides, all formed by the movement of the water over countless years and generations. My mother was overtaken by the urge to start collecting a bunch of them of the same size and shape, not sure why at first but soon realized that she wanted to give them to me so that I found make my own set of elder futhark runes, but I hadn't said anything to her about my thinking about wanting to make my own, so she was working on sheer instinct.
I thought about how it all unfolded, how they came to me, where they come from and the significance of these things and couldn't ignore that gift. For them to come to me as an intuitive gift from my mother who against the odds finds these perfectly shaped stones that have been hiding from the modern world for so long only to be given up by the glacial lake ( not unlike the sacred waters that give up the runes to Odin).. I should mention that my mother's knowledge of our ancestral history is down right sad, she knows more about central and South America than her own people's culture, traditions, beliefs and lives, a rampant issue with so many people these days not knowing or having any connection to their roots. So she wasn't seeing the symbolic nature of many of these things until I was able to share what I knew and saw. There is a bit more that is very personal so I'm leaving that bit out , but let's just say that this as well as many other things were happening around this time. I was going through some dark times and things that I needed to know/understand were being revealed to me in some pretty interesting ways.

Hello Arith, is it possible you could make a video on how you pronounce Freyja in Scandinavian countries. Becuse I sa one of your videos about her but you said !I will pronounce for the sake of this video..." , so I am in doubt in how it's pronounced since my brother tells me it's pronounce different. Thank you in advance, hope it's not to much trouble.

For swedish it´s Freja, just dump the y and try to "roll" the r and you´re good to go. Norwegian pretty much the same i think. Danish and also southern sweden more of a "throaty" r but that´s not a big deal.

I'm sure this is asked a lot but if someone knows the answer, is there any significant difference between the pronunciations Othala and Odal? what's the "correct" pronunciation and where did the two originate from?

Arith, you share some great insights, with certain intelligence, and a large perspective.
This video also goes into your reading the exact words written by Ralph Blum in The Book of Runes. But I did not hear you give credit, and it seemed you read the words as if speaking spontaneously.
Can you please explain? Thank you.

    • @ArithHärger

Hello there! I do not have an "explanation" per se, as I find that highly unlikely, or at the very least mighty coincidental, but there may be an idea that can sort of explain what you are saying, if what you say is indeed the truth. Could you please point me out what were the words here said? I never read Ralph Blum, although I know he wrote a book in the 80s as an esoteric approach to the runes that has influenced many authors in the field of esoteric runology and occult. Even though I never read his work, I read many authors with such approaches that no doubt have been influenced by his work. The only possible scenario I see here is that, when it comes to esoteric approaches to the runes, it is so saturated that most of us end up saying the same/similar things in certain points. Although, I continue to find it unlikely I've said the exact same words of an author I never read. Similar words? Perhaps. My esoteric approach to the runes is based on the little information provided by the surviving runic poems + mythological and historical accounts and evidences that seem to reflect parts of the information for each poem dedicated to each rune + fitting it all into human daily and psychological aspects, and all of this constructs possible meanings when the runes appear in a rune reading. Again, please tell me what words were here said. Thank you.

Arith Blum really isn't up your alley anyway he is more of a copy paste to runes from tarot approach and is often credited with the creation of the blank tile which I know you don't use. I'm not saying Blum is wrong people use him successfully for their readings but it's just a different approach from what you do and you probably wouldn't find any useful information that would change your mind on how you read your rune pulls. I'm trying hard not to be bias but I'm not much of a fan of Blum.
