      I agree. The runes are symbols of the universe and probably the multiverse. I don’t use them for divination because I follow the path of the Norns. You will never fully understand your fate. The runes can help you to understand it on a long term basis. New age is not something for me. I read rune stones in my vicinity. The stone and the text give me an understanding about the symbol behind this. That is the magic.

      Great video, now i don't feel so bad for putting my "wyrd" rune into my assorted stone bag and not using it.... i mean, i know we make our own fate and do not need a non-symbol to tell me that lol we get divination for reflection and guidance, thanks for all the gnosis you share!

    Your rune videos have changed so much from when you first began. They are so much richer and full of more helpful information than in the beginning. Have you considered redoing some of your older videos?

    • @ArithHärger
      @ArithHärger  4 года назад +28

      Yes, it's true and indeed I have considered re-doing the first videos. You know, when I've started those rune-series 3 years ago, I had little more than 100 subscribers and I didn't think people were interested in those videos at all, so the first videos were just very quick explanations and ideas. Little did I know that it would have a great impact and that a lot of people would actually end up joining me here for the rune-series, so that's when I started to put a lot more time and explain a lot more about the runes. So yes, I do eventually want to re-make the first runes at least :)

    It's amazing how many people just can not separate tools; from all these strange ideas floating about. The traditional runes are interesting, but they have no power to do anything. I think the runes by themselves are not magical in nature, and some heathens may say this is "blasphemy!" lol, but if they think so.. I'm afraid they did a poor choice of spiritual path :p But the runes are just like any other type of symbol, image, icon or letter; it's not these things that are magical in nature (in my opinion, of course) but it's the human component that is essential in any expression of magic. It's the human inner capacities and the power of its own consciousness that can express magic by the use of any tool. It's like the blacksmith's hammer, by itself is just an object, just a tool, but with the human element it can create all sorts of useful and beautiful items. As I usually say, when we consult the runes we consult the higher-self.

    As you said in video about tattoos Slavic people had tattoos on their bodies (according to the book written by Ibn Fadlan). Did they have runic tattoos? Any information on that? Or those were just pictures or anything else. If there's such information.
    Or it's also not that common, because as a Russian I remember those Slavic people depicted in books or cartoons from my childhood and they didn't have tattoos.
    So, I'm saying that Ibn Fadlan is the only source about Slavs having tattoos.

    I agree with and respect your approach to the runes. I also use them for divination and realize there is no real historical context for this practice. I would be very interested in any further discussion with you about modern runic divination as I have practiced this for many years, and have added some character of my own similar to the lineage of Icelandic midlevel magical practices, however, they are not directly descendent thereof. I have always had a deep interest in the ultimate origin of runic symbols, including non- germanic usages. I am wondering if I might inquire of your opinion of any connection or relationship between Germanic usage and proto-Turkish lettering systems because there is much graphic similarity between the two sets of symbols. My education is clearly lesser than your own in these respects. It seems that peoples of the Asian steppes migrated through Turkish regions to help populate the Northern European areas including Scandinavia. Thank you for your work to preserve what truth we actually have about runic tradition.

    I think the reason why I can actually connect to reading tarot is because it's new. It's based on how I see the world (the way I read ofc) and not how people in the past did. For me it's not a plus or a minus if something has a tradition, in a sense that it won't get better just because other people used to do it. That's one of the reasons I'm not sure I'll use runes, it seems to connect to a culture (even if just in theory) that's too different from me. Assumptions, I know XD but I enjoy using tarot to help myself and hopefully others because it males sense to me. That's all. :)

    For the record, the use of tarot as anything more than a card game (of which we also know very little) only dates back a couple hundred years, not as far back as most tarot users (of which I am, as well as runes) like to make believe either. The idea that it is "ancient" comes mostly from the Golden Dawn (late 19th century), popularized by "Gypsy Fortune tellers/tarot readers"- also mostly gothic/romance author's invention.

    A blank rune makes sense to me, I see many blank or what I would call open area's in your video, I would say this represent either openness, receptivity, or sameness. In art, or writing most mediums are blank and I think the main purpose is to collect energy, matter, data, or information, to see the potentials of an individual, which relate to nutrition and media inputs. Thus people can be guided or directed into other areas of the market or initiatory/academic hierarchies, for profit and for power as well as universal realization.

      And it's especially sad when I do philosophical videos and I have to explain and warn people that I'm not trying to indoctrinate them but actually just sharing a philosophical perspective. People are naturally mistrustful, but that mistrust was highly augmented in this new Era of ours, with so much fake news and with technology being able to even create false images and completely distort the truth in new and more convincing ways, to the point that people even question the reality of events happening right in front of them. It's not entirely people's fault. But to a certain extent it is, when people prefer to rely on information that pops up on memes on Facebook, rather than reading books.

    Hey Arith, would you say that runic numerology is something that germanic people did in pre christian times? Or is it also an addition from recent centuries?

  • @RogertheGS
    @RogertheGS 3 года назад

    I'm curious, where in Tolkien's fictions do you find him presenting the runes as a magical device? As far as I know in LOTR and The Hobbit they are just the writing of the Dwarves, used to mark their maps, tombs, etc.. It's true he puts writing on the door to Moria, but this is Elvish script (not runes) and really only gives a clue, the true magic is voice-activated.

    • @ArithHärger
      @ArithHärger  3 года назад +2

      Hello there! Good question. In the Song of Durin it speaks of "runes of power", this appears in several instances, not just the power of the runes at the Moria Gate/Door, which are clearly magical as they are activated by voice therefore they have magic in them and not just for writing, but also the "moon runes" in the Hobbit, whose magic hides them and can only be read at that special moon; remember Merry and Pippin's swords (Books) which contain runes and are of great ancient power; Tolkien (in The Hobbit) stated that the magic swords of elven folk had their names in runes, although it doesn't specifically say that the runes give power or magic, but they are runes engraved on magic objects and not on ordinary objects, which may indicate the idea of "runes of power"; according to Bilbo's song, Earendil's shield had runes for warding, so this gives them a specific magic purpose. This idea of runes in the shield is also mentioned for the runes in objects with similar effects such as on the Helm of Hador and the warhorn that Eowyn gives to Merry after the defeat of Sauron (in the books again). What Tolkien demonstrates here, especially in these three last cases, is that the runes themselves enhance the powers/intentions for which the objects have been created. Although it is true that the function of Runes in Tolkien's works are more focused on written forms of the peoples' of Middle Earth, he does make quite a few mentions of runes of power. But the "problem" here isn't Tolkien. The idea that Runes (real historical runes) have magic, was also influenced by Tolkien's works, but not necessarily by Tolkien himself but by his readers. Tolkien didn't state that historical runes were for magic, but his readers have drawn that conclusion due to his works, and many authors that came after started to give magical purposes for runes, hence influencing further this idea concerning real historical runes.

    From my understanding the older fuþark runes had their own indivudual meaning, similar to phygian and greek alphabets. Divination of the norse would probably be a type of osteomancy or bone casiting, broze age symbols and runes could then be used as away to keep track on the different pieces. Magic through wording and symbolism was supposedly common in IA la tene germanic and gallic era, by greek acconts. So maybe not similar to the modern view, but also not as far. This is only a speculation, we do not know.

    Hello, stuck in 3rd video here on channel which seems to me as most rational. And what brought me into all of this mystic stuff is symbolism itself and specifically one question that is important to me. I've got a present from my father to my 18th birthday and it is silver necklace with the "peace" "nuclear disarmament" symbol. And later I came across information that it's in fact harmful "yr" rune representing death and misery and reversed protection and life rune.. can anyone tell me what should I think about it? Could it really have some negative energy or is all this "magic" just matter of belief? As I said it's important to me as the gift from father has huge meaning and I just don't know for sure how to feel about it now. Opinions? Knowledge? Please..

    Ok video is esoteric so let's talk magick 😎
    While the old Norse might not have actually used the runes for magick or divination in the way that people try to use them now, it doesn't mean you can't use them. Magick is all about our intent shaping the world around us.
    I could take the letter B and say that that letter symbolizes books and is therefore useful in spells to enhance knowledge or learning. As long as I believe it I can essentially use the letter B as a sigil in that way. If I get hundreds or thousands of other people to use the letter B as a sigil in the same way the intent and magick piles up, making it stronger.
    So basically, while the Elder Futhark wasn't originally used for magick, I firmly believe that it can be used as such now thanks to the evolution of people's intent and desires.
