I saw this when I was around the same age, way back at the beginning of the "Golden Age" of the internet. I am still a Christian, but I remember this giving me some serious doubts to wrestle through.
Still to this day, with an 11-year-old of my own who's just beginning to explore the internet, I wrestle with the subject of God and faith. And I am willing to let my children wrestle with it as well, even if they do not reach the same conclusions that I do. We should have no fear of ideas that could poke holes in our biases and held beliefs, for if we fear that our foundation is too weak to withstand assault, then we merely prove that weakness as reality.

I was also around 11 when I saw this video. I never really thought much of God and probably never actually would've called myself a christian, but I still remember hearing him say "God does not exist" feeling so cathartic. It was probably the first time I ever heard another person say those words and honestly taught me that not believing in God is actually a legitimate thing and that I wasn't alone. Being raised surrounded by super religious people and just not relating to any of it can be alienating.

I believe I've mentioned this before, but there's a chapel in Wisconsin where nuns have been engaged in a perpetual chain-prayer for world peace since 1878. The combined death toll for wars in the 20th century alone was over 200 million. If that isn't enough to convince a rational person that prayer has no efficacy, then nothing will. They actually have websites where you can submit your prayer requests.

There is a story about an old Israeli, who has been praying at the wailing wall in Jerusalem for over 60 yrs. He is interviewed by a local news service.
When asked what he was praying for, he answered, “Peace for the world and the end of conflict, disease and misery.”
He was asked, “what effect do you think it has?” He answered, “It's like talking to a wall.”

The first time I saw this video I was still Christian. My retort was that if I ask my parents for a red fire truck for Christmas, on Christmas Day I would either get a red fire truck, no fire truck or have them tell me I would get one later. And that's because parents don't exist.
The problem with that analogy is that in this scenario there are other reasons to believe the parents exist, such as the fact that I can see them hear them touch them smell them Etc. The same can obviously not be said about God. Kind of strange to come back to this video as the person I am now.

    • @vixxcelacea2778
      @vixxcelacea2778 3 года назад +6

A good frame of reference would be if the child alone in their room asks Santa with out the parents hearing. It would be the same then too, because Santa doesn't exist.
That was my realization when I understood religion. If one claims truth, then all must be considered with the same relevancy. Santa could exist, Unicorns could exist, God, Thor, Ra etc etc. At least with many of those there are parameters for existence. Santa lives in the North Pole, he's fat and jolly. Unicorns look like horses with horns. Ra has the head of a falcon and the body of a human. But the Christian and Jewish god? Not so much. Is he in the clouds? Is he invisible? What does he look like, how could he exist theoretically? Does he have weight, does he produce energy?
All the bases are covered because there is no solid idea so you can never disprove something that can't be tested and has no parameters for existing.

This video introduced me to atheism. When I watched it, I was outraged. How dare this man question god?! Slowly, as I grew older and more intelligent I wrestled with the prospect. I debated atheists my age and they beat me every single time. Not once did I have a clear argument for his existence. Religion is a trap, I spent years contemplating becoming an atheist but I was so scared of what 'God' would think. Looking back at it, I realise how pathetic it was, how pathetic I was. To all believers watching this: please genuinely reconsider your position and research atheistic arguments: they cannot be beaten!

If you honestly represent the thing you are criticising (he reprinted it in his video) that is not a strawman. It may not be how you think of prayer but it is a valid criticism of christianity.com's position.
It's hard to believe in prayer like John 15:7 but the act of prayer can help the person praying and that is enough sometimes.

And in recent years I challenged them to a debate of all their most notable fearless leaders and... at the same time. However, I did inform them that in this battle the gloves would be off and the debate would have parameters to ensure a fair debate... (they of course, hate fair debates) I have made one minor mistake though... See I utterly destroyed what ever topic they had in the video they presented. (This allowed them to know that I can do what I claim.) And so, they ignore me, but usually only after attempting to defeat me... then upon seeing that does not work, they flee. (Or is it... FLEA?)
I have no fear of a battle of minds with them as they are all ill equipped. *Perhaps they should follow the yellow brick road to OZ and ask Mr. Wizard for a brain?*

. They do seem smart enough to not take me on. But just give this a bit more time... I am patient and soon I will possess enough God given authority to FORCE them into a debate! So be patient and stick around.

I am a Christian. I completely disagree with the "yes", "no", "wait" mentality. God responds in many other ways then just a simple word. Besides, not everything you pray is a "yes" or "no" (or "wait", for that matter) question. Prayer is much more than just asking. So much more than simply asking. Prayer is conversing, fellow shipping, discussing, chatting, crying, thinking, laughing, etc. to/with God. Therefore, the whole milk thing is irrelevant because I completely disagree with the yes/no/wait mentality.
Oh, and please no rude insulting comments. I am fine with opposition to my post and faith, but please be polite so that we may have a meaningful conversation. Rudeness is never the right start to a discussion. Thanks.

      2) I am fully aware that he didn't make it up. I am fully aware that Christians claim it. I am fully aware that I am disagreeing about something religious with other Christians. And that's fine. :)
      3) Okay, again, that's your opinion and you are entitled to it as I am mine.
But let me ask you this (Note: I'm not saying this happens to everyone or is a huge question that will prove God necessarily; it is just a question.): What about times when someone prays for God to enlighten them with truth about something that a stranger is struggling with and it is true?
i.e.: I was at a bible camp type thing and we were in worship. I asked God to show me the picture of someone's face at the camp and tell me something to say to them to help them. God showed me a fairly clear picture of one of the girls in the gym (where it was being held) at that time. I had never seen her before and did not recognize her when I saw the picture of her. Yet I went out looking and found her then told her very specific things about struggling with certain eating disorders and her peers at school. I told her how the Lord could specifically help her get through her specific situation. She told me that she had been struggling with exactly what I said and that I helped her tremendously. I had never met her before right then, so how did I know everything about her struggles?
Another example: Also at this camp, and actually the same night and on my way to find the girl I was looking for, someone stopped me. I have met her before but we were not very close. She stopped me quite quickly and eagerly and was not nervous at all about what she was to tell me. She was, in fact, extremely happy to begin telling me. She began by saying that moving (I am moving from Minnesota to Kentucky in a couple weeks) was okay. At that point I had told close to no one about moving (due to my father's job and things) and I had no idea how she knew, except by God. I had been struggling with that because I didn't really want to accept the fact that I was leaving everyone here! She then began to tell me, with extreme detail (not all included in the following description), the vision that she saw earlier that night while praying. It was of my family and I in Kentucky. We had just moved there. I was the emotional and spiritual leader of my family as we crossed over a bridge and other landscape into our new home. She told me some details about what the home looks like and then said that Jesus, glowing, was inside the house when we walked in. He told us that we had done well and have been faithful. At that point, we had absolutely no idea what house we were going to buy and hadn't even began looking. Now we have a purchase agreement on a house. It has a river with a bridge very close by, the rest of the landscape she described is spot-on, and the details about the inside and outside of the home are also spot-on. Her telling me all this helped me deeply. It helped me accept that moving is for the better and that is really is okay. :)
So, how did I know that? How did my peer know that? Voo-doo? Demons? Coincidences? Or...God?

    • @JerricaHanson22
      @JerricaHanson22 10 лет назад

Hm...the thing is it was as close as I thought. Hear me out: I honestly am deeply considering each of your thoughts because I like to be open-minded. But there isn't really much of a way to get that off - at least not by that much. How coincidental would it be if, out of all the eating disorders, or normal disorders, or general problems a person could have, I guessed/made up that some random chick I'd never met or seen before had that? And the same with her specific feelings about her peers? And the same with how she specifically can learn from this and recover in a way that she specifically can learn from? Huh. I must be a better guesser than I thought...;)
And the vision to me: What a bunch of coincidences! How funny that of all things I could be going through, she happened to guess I was moving. Furthermore, how ironic that of all the countries, states, and places I could move to, she randomly guessed Kentucky. Furthermore, how coincidental that she guessed that there'd be a bridge over a river close by, that I'd be the emotional and spiritual leader of my family at that time (which I am), that the house would have lots of trees around it, that the overall landscape was rolling hills, that the house would be blue-gray in color, that the inside would have so and so details, etc. Huh. I suppose she is also very imaginative and has a crazy skill of randomly guessing the right things.
      Huh. ;)

    • @JerricaHanson22
      @JerricaHanson22 10 лет назад

Like I said, I did truly consider those thoughts. But there is simply no way that we could be that good of a guesser or that creative.
Therefore, by your logic, that means that it just wasn't as close as I thought. But facts are facts.
For example, she told me we'd walk across a bridge over a river very close to my home. There is a river with a bridge located very close to my home.
Another example: she told me the house was blue-gray in color. The house is blue-gray in color.
Another example: The house would be surrounded by many trees, but not covered in the front. The house has fairly thick woods all around it except only the occasion tree in the front yard.
Another example: she told me the area had lot of rolling hills. The area of Kentucky my house is in is especially hilly.
The list continues. I'm hoping you see my point here. There is no way I was off; the words that she spoke are perfect descriptions of the home that I didn't even know about and she absolutely didn't know about. And there was no way that these were all coincidences; the chances of guessing even one of these things and being correct are incredibly slim, so all of these being guesses being correct? Not to mention the tens of thousands, if not more, things just like this that have happened. All of those must be coincidences?

I remember watching this video as a little kid. I would go up to my parents room after school to watch RUclips and play flash games. I got into a phase where I’d look at optical illusions a lot. I thought they were so cool. Eventually I came across this video.
To be honest it broke my heart a little bit. It was a scary idea for me to think that it was all made up. I was alone, watching this video telling me that the God that my parents took me to worship on sundays wasn’t real. That Jesus wasn’t real. That there was no God watching over and that he didn’t care about me or love me. That all the adults around me were lying. That there was no meaning to anything. That prayers don’t work.
As I got older, I still prayed for things occasionally. I prayed that my cat would come back home when she ran away. She did come back eventually. I prayed that id be able to make friends at school and that bullies would leave me alone. I never did make any friends and the bullies never did leave me alone. I prayed for lots of things, and the phrase “yes, no, and wait” stayed in my mind. The yellow image of the milk jug stayed with me. The seed that was planted by this video stayed with me for a long time.
I don’t know if I ever explicitly gave up my faith in God, but I stopped praying for a long time. And I didn’t really give God much thought. I had been through a decent amount of trauma in my life as a kid and teenager, and by the time I was 20 I had basically just given up on everything. I didn’t take care of myself, my family was falling apart, I slept with a bottle of whiskey under my bed, and I was in a relationship with a narcissist who treated me like I was garbage, and I believed it. I hated myself and thought I was worthless.
I lived on a fast, busy road. Sometimes at night, I would stand in the middle of the road and close my eyes. I wanted a car to come and kill me. I would call the suicide hotline number almost every night just because I wanted someone to talk to.
When I was 24, I was driving down a highway far away from my home. I had been publicly humiliated this particular day because I had done something stupid as a result of trying to impress my narcissistic partner. I was driving 3 hours to get back home. I had a lot of alone time to sit with this terrible feeling. I was beating myself up. I would say things like this to myself “stupid. You’re so fucking stupid. You never do anything right. You should fucking kill yourself”.
I don’t expect people to believe this next part, but I do. I consider this the most important moment of my life. I felt, for a few moments, like the sky opened up. And the world showed itself to me in a new light. I can’t describe the feeling, but all I can say is it was more powerful than anything I’d felt before or since. It was as if something was telling me without words “you don’t deserve to be feeling this way. You can make changes in your life. Get away from these people that hurt you. You don’t have to stay with them. Look at this world. It’s beautiful. I made this for you. I love you. You can become more than what you’ve been set up to be. Your life is yours, spend it the way you want”. Tears were streaming down my face. This lasted for a few minutes. I drove the rest of the way home.
After this experience, I began making changes in my life. I got rid of people who were hurting me. I learned to stand up for myself to my family, bosses, partners, friends, or enemies. I began reading, eating better, exercising. I slowly became disciplined in my life. I lost 20 pounds of fat and started putting on muscle. I eventually got engaged to a great woman who inspires me to better myself, supports me, and cares about me. I stopped drinking. I began sorting out my mental health and working through my trauma. I also bought a Bible from Barnes and noble. And I began to pray again and go to church.
All of this stuff didn’t happen to me overnight though. It’s not like God came down and zapped away all of my problems. There were a lot of horrible, depressing, low moments for me. And moments where I committed awful, shameful acts. Mostly these happened when I was drinking too much, or not in control of myself. Each time I felt like I couldn’t forgive myself, but the Bible told me that God would forgive me as long as I didn’t cross a certain line. There were times where this was the only thing that gave me hope. It wasn’t the promise of a perfect afterlife though, it was the idea that this tradition that was started by our ancestors and survived for thousands of years, was telling me that it was ok. That I’m not irredeemable, and that there was hope for me.
I had to do the hard work. All of it. I had to lift the weights, face the fears, dump out the liquor, and navigate my own life. If you’re expecting God to answer your prayers as if they’re demands, all I will say is that you are not God’s consultant. Prayer is a great way for you to sit down with yourself and think about what it is that you want out of life. If you’re praying everyday for a raise at your job (and you’re not an idiot), you will probably try to behave at work in a way that shows that you deserve a raise. Why would God, or even your boss for that matter, give you a raise just because you asked? You need to prove that you’re worthy of it. And that takes sacrifice. Which is a very important aspect of Christianity and prayer.
I’m not saying that I’ve got all the answers and that I know for a fact that God exists. All I’m saying is that God’s presence in my life has ONLY helped me. And it’s helped me in ways that I could have never imagined beforehand.
He replied, “Because you have so little faith. Truly I tell you, if you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move. Nothing will be impossible for you.”
    Matthew 17:20

@FierySpirit5496 Experience isn’t evidence or proof. Because experience is just like the “yes, no, and wait” concept, it can be in any belief. It can be used no matter what which isn’t reliable.
For instance, one Christian and the other is a Muslim. They both have the concept of experience and testimony with others and themselves to rely on. To the extent of even calling it as “proof”.
If the Christian has an experience where a before they were in Christ life went downhill for them. But after knowing God, good things began to happen. To even their prayer being heard and healing a love one.
The Muslim can say they same thing. They’ve gained the experience of good things happening to them and even healing being made in front of their eyes.
So who’s wrong? Both experiences can be placed as evidence and proof for about any other belief, is that even reliable? Faith and experience is not enough because faith and experience isn’t reliable when it can make about anything the “truth” if someone wants to.

The definition for magic is the power of apparently influencing the course of events by using mysterious or supernatural forces. I think that sums up god. And saying that when I'm past puberty I will understand could be said about anything and any religion. Say you meet a Muslim, Atheist, ect. you would say something to the context of when you're older you will understand and they would say that same thing to. How can you say that when I'm older that I will suddenly look at things differently. Sometimes people have a different mindset, they look at the world differently than you or I would. • @fourteatwo

+bret shepard If you still believe the bible stories are about magic you have not yet passed puberty. Take the story of the wedding at Canaan - an absolute non-magic event. If you claim Jesus turned water into wine by magic you imply that he found it embarrassing that someone had not enough money to buy enough booze and that that a tasty wine would be more valuable than the water used for ritual cleansing. People who believe the bible stories to be about magic need to grow up.

A major contributing problem is that people hate being proven wrong. Imagine being told everything you've believed your whole life is a lie. Imagine you start to have an inkling that it may be true. Most people will fight viciously to protect their ego rather than come to terms with the new information. And religion preys (no pun intended) on that human trait. People invest too much of themselves in their beliefs to easily give them up when confronted with conflicting evidence or the truth. Religion and god are a crock. Deal with it.

assuming a God, he is unable to answer prayers. By definition, God is perfect and omniscient. He knows the future. Any change made by answering a prayer would change this future he already has known from the beginning of time. According to this, there is no plan. Everything would happen exactly as it would as if everything is scripted. But also, don’t tell people that god will strike whoever doesn’t believe in god down. If we’re dead and it’s like we don’t exist anymore, like we don’t live anymore and we can’t think anymore, then there is no such thing as heaven or god. If our ‘spirits’ stay on Earth and we can watch over people, it is undecided whether god exists or not. If we go to ‘heaven’ when we die, then god does exist. Well at least that’s how I think of it.

I would add that prayer does not necessarily have no benefit. Prayer can help direct the mind stably to a certain goal, and consistency of purpose is a positive factor in striving for success. In this case, it is a prayer of aspiration. There can be situations where a distracted mind will miss the opportunity to further one's goals, whereas a focused mind will be more likely to notice the chance when it appears. But just groveling in passivity is not very likely to result in much that is beneficial, except perhaps more "waiting'.

The thing is Yes/no/ and wait are always true even if you don't pray. Those are the only outcomes that CAN happen for any want or need in life, or even most activities.
Say you go to start your car, it either will start (yes) or it won't start (no) or it might start after several tries (wait).
Lets say you need 100$ to pay a bill, You either will get it someway somehow (yes) or you won't (no) or you might get it but a little later down the road (wait).
Lets say you're playing Craps you either will get snake eyes (yes) or you won't (no) or you may after many rolls (wait).
This is the only outcomes in anything in life, it either happens or it doesn't or it happens later. And this is true even if you don't pray to anything. It is the only things that can happen (the only other thing that could happen is you die lol). This is true if you don't pray, if you pray to the biblical god, or Zeus, or Fairies, or Gandalf, or cat shit.
Because these are the only outcomes that can happen about anything in life.

illusion466 "Every one of those things are banned in the bible. To partake in any one of them, would be against gods will."
Okay partner, here we go! :D
There are many verses in the bible which condone the atrocities Philly Wonken mentioned. Since you are ignorant enough to have not fully read through your copy of the bible (and the millions of other versions -- talk about your consistency), I'll do you the favour of enlightening you.
Bible verse (out of the many) that condone..
      Slavery:
However, you may purchase male or female slaves from among the foreigners who live among you. You may also purchase the children of such resident foreigners, including those who have been born in your land. You may treat them as your property, passing them on to your children as a permanent inheritance. You may treat your slaves like this, but the people of Israel, your relatives, must never be treated this way. (Leviticus 25:44-46 NLT)
When a man sells his daughter as a slave, she will not be freed at the end of six years as the men are. If she does not please the man who bought her, he may allow her to be bought back again. But he is not allowed to sell her to foreigners, since he is the one who broke the contract with her. And if the slave girl's owner arranges for her to marry his son, he may no longer treat her as a slave girl, but he must treat her as his daughter. If he himself marries her and then takes another wife, he may not reduce her food or clothing or fail to sleep with her as his wife. If he fails in any of these three ways, she may leave as a free woman without making any payment. (Exodus 21:7-11 NLT)
      Misogyny & Rape
DEUTERONOMY 20:14 Take women, livestock as plunder. 22:13-21 Stone non-virgin bride. 22:23-24 Stone rapist and rape victim. 22:28 Rape victim must marry rapist; rape victim’s father compensated for depreciation of his property. 25:11-12 Cut woman’s hand for touching foe’s penis. 24:1-5 Man can “send” wife from HIS house. Man must not marry “used” woman
      2 SAMUEL
5:13 David took many wives and concubines.
CH 13 Ammon rapes his own sister.
16:21-22 Absalom sleeps with his father’s concubines.
      6:20-23 Mischal punished with bareness.
      1 KINGS
11:3 Solomon had 700 wives and 300 concubines.
      Murder:
      Death for Hitting Dad
Whoever strikes his father or mother shall be put to death. (Exodus 21:15 NAB)
      Death for Cursing Parents
      1) If one curses his father or mother, his lamp will go out at the coming of darkness. (Proverbs 20:20 NAB)
      2) All who curse their father or mother must be put to death. They are guilty of a capital offense. (Leviticus 20:9 NLT)
      Death for Adultery
If a man commits adultery with another man's wife, both the man and the woman must be put to death. (Leviticus 20:10 NLT)
      Death for Fornication
A priest's daughter who loses her honor by committing fornication and thereby dishonors her father also, shall be burned to death. (Leviticus 21:9 NAB)
Death to Followers of Other Religions
Whoever sacrifices to any god, except the Lord alone, shall be doomed. (Exodus 22:19 NAB)
      Kill Nonbelievers
They entered into a covenant to seek the Lord, the God of their fathers, with all their heart and soul; and everyone who would not seek the Lord, the God of Israel, was to be put to death, whether small or great, whether man or woman. (2 Chronicles 15:12-13 NAB)
      Genocide:
2 Samuel 24:1 - And again the anger of the LORD was kindled against Israel, and he moved David against them to say, Go, number Israel and Judah.
1 Samuel 15:3 - Now go and smite Amalek, and utterly destroy all that they have, and spare them not; but slay both man and woman, infant and suckling, ox and sheep, camel and ass.
Judges 20:48 - And the men of Israel turned again upon the children of Benjamin, and smote them with the edge of the sword, as well the men of [every] city, as the beast, and all that came to hand: also they set on fire all the cities that they came to.
And it goes on and on... :) I think the important point here, if you have gotten this far, is that the proper key in argument here should be that: why believe in something which there is no evidence for? do we know how life was created? No. So why believe fervently an illogical and unfalsifiable idea that there is a man who lives in the sky that breathed the first man from dust (which has been proven to be false, for that would call for the suspension of biological processes, and also evolution is now as much of a fact as the earth rotating around the sun), that has control over the things you do, the thoughts you think and the position you have sex in? honestly, it sounds a bit silly to me :) and it is. anyone who believes this is ignorant.

Zsavage1 haha well babes ignorance means they're lacking in knowledge, and Im sure if a self-respecting religious person observed their practices from an objective point of view while having done their proper homework, they'd kind of realise all the flaws and falsifications. People always say "respect others religions and let them believe what they want to".. see this wouldnt be a problem if there were no christian schools or islamic schools but there ARE. religion is being forced upon them before they can even reach an age of reason. besides, I think we owe it to each other if one of us isn't making proper sense, the other should tell them, and likewise.

    • @Horsoniq
      @Horsoniq 10 лет назад

Zsavage1 I believe its because of the plasticity of the brain. Our children are born empty, and know only what they observe or are told, thus if you teach a child that the answer to everything is god and life is about serving god then thats all he knows, and its hard to get out of him because hes being told every day, which strenghtens the neural connections :c

When I saw this back in 07-08 when it went viral (or what was considered viral back then) I was a kid. I remember hearing the initial argument that takes place in the first 4 minutes. My immediate reaction was to reinforce the arguments against this video that I had been taught in church and to use various poor apologetics.
I felt a sense of fear and anxiety and literal searing pain in my chest. I remember it so vividly. I thought it was due to it being the first time I'd experienced Atheism in the wild and that these people actually exist. I believed they were sinners.
I realize now that the feelings I had were because I thought I was committing sin. I felt it because I realized that a logical refutation for the existence of god was made to me for the first time and it actually made sense. I was sinning and on the path to becoming an apostate.
I finished this for the first time in 13 years as a proud agnostic atheist free from the beliefs that gave me such anxiety. It wasn't just this video that changed me. It'd be another 4 years or so. But, I am a person who values logic.
This video is calm, to the point, and makes a great analogy. If we could still rate videos, I'd give it 5 stars.

Thanks so much for this video, It was a huge awakening for me, I remember seeing it on the liked list of one of my favorite RUclipsrs back when I was 13 or so and It finalized my departure from Christianity. I had always questioned the existence of a god when I was a child around 9 or 10 years old, when I saw this video I made a much better life for myself and for some friends around me. The only thing is that I think my grandmother and great grandmother would be disappointed in me and they are far too invested in religion to let an 8 minute long video change their stance, they would probably disown me. So out fear of being ridiculed as possibly the only non Christian of my extended family I will wait for them to die out so the newer generations can be shown truth.

shows your level of intellectual capacity now and then to let you depart from Christianity by it's shallow argumentation. You should have checked why your "Christianity" was about praying to Santa to fulfill your wishes. Who taught you to ask God for your will to be done and that prayer is about wish fulfillment instead of helping you to fulfill God's will?
Hope they disowned you and put their inheritance to more worthy causes than your shallow and selfish existence.

    • @fourteatwo5942

Sorry for having caught you out on your naivity about praying to Santa. If you find the argument that God does not grow legs on amputees when they wish for it, as Marshall Brain argues, an easy to understand argument for the non existence of God you only demonstrate that you have the mental concept of a spoilt child about God being Santa's big brother. Only an irrational person would look for an irrational God doing magic to fulfill their wishes. A logically thinking person would look for a God that is logic and has put reality under the law that makes it accessible to human thought by being bound to such logic, and that is what the evidence shows us.
To pray like Marshall Brain explains in this "easy to understand" video only shows the materialism of those who pray like him, and I would hope that such prayers do not work, and thank God, science does seem to prove that point.
Now that you help others in your daily life is commendable as we all have an innate tendency for altruism as our survival depends on it. After all, what rules evolution is the law, e.g the word of God that is the foundation of all existence, to love thy neighbour like thyselves. And if you fail to understand this to be the essence of Christian teaching but your Christianity was about getting your wishes fulfilled you better leave your belief system and try to become a Christian.

I try to keep my ass out of religion. By Birth, I am a Christian/Catholic and was Baptized. I went to church in my early years and decided against it when i got older. I am more of a half Atheist than any thing. I believe that there is in fact a god, just not the one that my religion describes. I only believe in certain parts of the bible. I believe that something would have had to create the universe. Due to there being no scientific evidence (Other then the big bang Theory) I just choose to believe that Maybe a god made it. I also believe in the concepts of Heaven . I believe that once you die, you are taken to a "Heaven". Due to their being zero evidence about anything related to it, I choose that there is a god. I do not believe in the concept of Homosexuality being bad or anything like that. I just don't know where I stand.

    • @basanistes359

God is always the fill in answer to questions we don't know the answer to. The Big Bang Theory may be true or not, but either way, why does god have to be the answer? If there is a force that created all matter why call it god? That term has too much baggage attached to it. The Heaven thing is just fear of death. You need not fear though, it will be just like before you were born. You won't be aware of anything. I am not afraid of the centuries before I existed and I don't fear my future non existence. You shouldn't either.

Every christian I know doesn't believe he already has was he has prayed for so nothing happens. Watch the movie the secret so that you can understand better.

I'm a Christian, though not a perfect one, I have flaws and doubts and I am a sinner. I love science, I don't believe all the stories in the bible are 100% factual. I believe in evolution and that the earth and universe are billions of years old. My beliefs may vary from others but at its core I believe in Jesus Christ and his teachings and miracles. Prayer is not a letter to Santa. I don't think that if I pray hard enough I will win the lottery or my team will win the Super Bowl. I pray when I need guidance and to give thanks. Prayer is about feeling closer to God. No I cannot scientifically prove the existence of God. I don't think that can be done. Instead of scientific proof I have faith. I think that is what non-believers have the biggest problem with, faith cannot be argued with or proven false. My faith sustains my soul when doubts begin to creep in. Without faith the word of God would seem like nothing more than a fairy tale. Your video was very patronizing and you spoke to your intended audience like they were children. I encourage you to give faith a try, but I don't think that I have changed your beliefs in any way as you have not shaken my faith at all. God bless you.

    • @fourteatwo
      @fourteatwo 8 лет назад +2

+Mike Burnett It is indeed the problem of people to belief that prayer is to send your wishes to Santa's big brother and by saying and this I wish in the name of Jesus would make sure it has to be answered - and if not it would prove that there is no God. I remember when I was a child to pray to God for my hamster not to die, then for my Grandmother. Then I grew up but unlike many of those who conclude that the reason that my will was not done was not because there is no God but because I understood that I wasn't the centre of the universe and prayer was not about my will being done but about saying thanks for being there and to understand the will of God. For those stuck in puberty it is too difficult to let go of the idea that the centre of the universe is somewhere below their bellybutton :-)

You can do a simple test to see if god is real. If god really wants atheists to believe in him and other non believers, then an atheist needs to say “have an apple appear in my hand”. If it does then god exists, if not then not
