Gene is not based on spoilers
Gene trying real hard to validate spoiling some of Yakuza. Some ppl don’t watch trailers intentionally to avoid spoilers and the crew has acknowledged that so why talk about a big spoiler from a trailer. Reaching that moment in yakuza infinite wealth without knowing any spoilers is a better experience.
Watch at your own risk bozo. How can you avoid information from a trailer but listen to people talk about games for multiple hours?

If you’re going to play another Mario RPG and Thousand Year Door is your first, I absolutely recommend the original SuperStar Saga which is on GBA NSO. It has timed attacks, timed dodges, and a unique “Bros” mechanic where you can do combo attacks. I honestly like it more than OG Mario RPG.
I think you should stay clear of all spoilers wherever possible just out of courtesy to the audience unless it’s really 100% necessary to the conversation personally

First time watching I’ve always pictured Mama as Tina Belcher in my head based on her voice alone.
I just realized I need to write this comment before I forget. Micah has been absolutely KILLING IT on both Punching and Constellation. She has been flooring me with laughter a lot more than most people in Last Stand recently. I feel like Micah has truly finally found her footing on the Last Stand battlefield !

I too listened at 20x speed. Great episode
When you make a faithful remake you cannot make some aspects of the game worse. For example sometimes they don't bother to renew licensed music and they just remove those. This paper mario remake situation is similar. This type of faithful remake needs to be definitive and complete experience. People are not upset because game is 30 fps. People are upset because game is 30 fps while 20 year old original version is 60 fps. Kirby and Forgotten Land runs on 30 fps and nobody complained it because there is no 20 year old 60fps original version of that game.
1:12:45 Xenoblade story is very solid science fiction story. Quite easy to understand. Also I don't think you have to play other entries to enjoy the game, even for the expansions. If you play you will enjoy more but it is not necessary. You can just start where every you want. In fact playing in different order might be even interesting.
Gene is right, Elden Ring on Switch 2 is a day 1 double dip. The PS4 version running on PS5 actually has better performance, so could definitely see that being a great port!
I was so happy when this remake came out on my birthday. The OG paper Mario is one of my favorite games of all time and my first RPG, it was great replaying TTYD, here’s to hoping the OG will one day get the same treatment

Completely side with the write-in around 8:00 and the defense of "It was in the trailers" is lame af. Contrary to what some might think, not every person who listens to gaming podcasts watches every single gaming trailer out there. Especially when they're not caught up on a series, and especially if it has literally nothing to do with the subject matter of the topic or the entire show (if you couldn't tell this was also spoiled for me through Punching Up). Just because a company decides to show too much in its marketing does not mean everyone automatically knows about it. It'd be one thing if this was a one-off instance, but it's not and it's getting frustrating.
With the Like a Dragon spoiler, I agree. If it’s in the trailer, it’s fair game.
I did hate that they spoiled that aspect of the game, and my jaw would have dropped even more than it did when I saw the trailer.

Also living in DC and I still do not have a single OLED or 4k screen/tv/PC monitor...I'll get a better TV or computer monitor when I can but I honestly don't care about visuals or frame rates. I honestly can't tell the difference and I only play on Switch so yeah not a thing I think about. Switch has better games than the other consoles, so I'm winning at the end of the day in comparison.
The poor sucker who bought the cloud versions of KH is me😅 But guess what m, the joke is on you, cause they play pretty decently and I get to play them now on Switch (: That said, instant buy for Switch 2 if they run there natively

Bug fables and born of bread are indie games developed by people that wanted classic paper Mario but Nintendo wasn't making it
I'm not usually that sensitive when it comes to spoilers but I must say the Kiryu plot point bomb that Gene casually dropped without any warning on the last show was pretty egregious in my opinion. Number one this is a Nintendo podcast and seen as the Yakuza series isn't even playable on any Nintendo system (apart from the original Yakuza 1 & 2 HD remasters being on the Wii U in Japan only) people listening probably aren't expecting to have to be on their guard regarding major story spoilers for the series being discussed. Number two this channel has a series of spoilercasts which are clearly labelled in order to warn listeners to steer clear if they haven't fully experienced the content being covered so you'd think any show outside of those labelled spoilercast would go out of their way to not mention any spoilers. Number three many people actively avoid trailers in case of spoilers because they know certain companies such as Square Enix & Sega are notorious for including them so a simple spoiler warning before revealing a major plot point during a podcast whether it's previously been included in a trailer or not isn't hard to do and is just a common courtesy.
If you get that upset about spoilers, you probably shouldn't be listening to a podcast about playing games

Dustin is referring in 35:00 to the character that is trans... The character was trans in the actual game and Japanese language. The english translation is what actually changed it incorrectly. So making the character trans in this translation is actually accurate to the source material.
Really find it odd what Dustin was kind of trying to imply here and that it may be problematic. Reminds me of when he made the starfield pronoun outrage seem "justified".
