Richard is such an unbelievable good musician... absolutely admirable. A genius. Without Richard, his visions and his God-given talents, The Carpenters would have never have existed. That's a fact. For me he is a living legend. Absolutely. Thanks to him for all he has shared with us. And he always stayed down-to-earth, normal, friendly and kind... great!
lol, Richard Carpenter was the main source for the Carpenters, he arranged all the songs for Karen Carpenter, he has as much talent as Karen. They're both equal
Richard C. is the cleanest keyboard/piano player that I've ever heard and seen in my life. He's phrasing and accent of every notes he played is very expressive and has a perfect executions. Just my opinion as a musician. Salute to you my idol sir Richard C. Thanks a lot.
Richard Carpenter. A prodigy, with diverse talents. From singing to harmonizing to piano playing to composing songs, and arranging instrumentals that suit the wonderful voice of Karen Carpenter. Need I say more? He's just one of the best musicians of our time. Then and now.
Ive been playing the piano for 11 years, and I'm still very struggling to pull that kind of playing off. You have to practice super hard for this kind of stuff. Richard, along with Keith Emerson, is my favorite non classical pianist
I took piano/organ lessons for about 10 yrs-so I kinda think I have an educated opinion--Richard Carpenter is amazing!!-thanks for this post -enjoyed it completely!!
Richard was one of the greatest musical arrangers of his time - of any time, for that matter. Just listen to the instrumental numbers of their two Christmas albums - he's astounding.
oh no, he's playing for real.... Watch as he leaves the harpsichord, he's is playing the rest with his left hand as he's walking away from it. Amazing,mmm,,m/
I would like to put this one out there & roll the Dice for the world to read & see what they think of this idea. I would Love more than anything in the world for Richard Carpenter to get the Carpenter band together (including Herb, & Burt who were a Big part) & do a tribute show for Karen &Tony. Why not one more time, for the good old times. Everyones getting older each & every year, I really believe in my heart that this would be special & Karen could be included on a Big Screen with Pictures
My organ teacher tried to get me to play this. I took one look at the sheet music with all those ascending and descending 32nd notes and started to cry. He didn't force me to make the attempt.
I think so when the first time I watched this video. But later I found that his left hand is still playing (behind the body) when he is moving to the next piano.
i love this song anyway, and what Mr. Carpenter does with it is so much fun. it just struck me that if he had red piping down the side of his pants, that would be a great Han Solo cosplay.
Hmmm - I’ve listened to this several times. I THINK it’s an organ doubling his part, knowing that he wouldn’t be able to finish the phrase (so why not change the arrangement?). I’m sure he’s not miming! But you have an interesting point.
Richard was the only one up to par with Karen Carpenter. And Karen Carpenter was the only one up to par with Richard Carpenter. Harold and Agnes Carpenter, their parents, struck two for two in the prodigy department. I would love if Richard would re-record his great piano solo in This Masquerade and other great piano solos excerpts from the Carpenters' catalog, as close to the original form as possible, in a single medley compilation.
Yeah, this is probably pre-recorded and finger-sync'ed... heck, playing the danged song straight is enough to give most pianists fits, let alone rushing from piano to piano and getting the hands into position at the perfect time. Richard Carpenter might have been good, but I seriously doubt he was THAT good, and I doubt even more that the networks would have allowed him to screw up live. It's still entertaining to watch, though.

Every time someone tells me Richard Carpenter didn't play a big part in The Carpenters and he had no talent, I'm showing them this.
That "someone" told you bullshit. Sorry for saying this.
lol, Richard Carpenter was the main source for the Carpenters, he arranged all the songs for Karen Carpenter, he has as much talent as Karen. They're both equal
Richard Carpenter is one on the best american musicians forever. Absolutely perfect.
Richard Carpenter is maybe THE best american musician forever.
Richard carpenter.. theforgotton genius

Ikr? I really appreciate this skill level. What an amazingly talented family.

That was incredible; I especially loved the part where Richard played the toy piano!
He was an awesome talent. He's not even trying. Just flows out of him through his fingers. A genius I think!!
The wonderful thing about him is that he was never bragging around.
I took piano/organ lessons for about 10 yrs-so I kinda think I have an educated opinion--Richard Carpenter is amazing!!-thanks for this post -enjoyed it completely!!
I really believe that Zez would have been impressed with this incredible showpiece.
Excellent, et même exceptionnel !

I love this guy i wanna learn how to play the piano now
I think so when the first time I watched this video. But later I found that his left hand is still playing (behind the body) when he is moving to the next piano.
What fun! I hope that's sister Karen on drums!
this deserves much much much more views
Оригинальный номер!!!
Wow!
Drink ten cups of coffee and download "Dizzy Fingers" by the Carpenters. You will never need cocaine. - Seth Macfarlane
I'd like to see him do a duet with Jerry Lee Lewis.
i love this song anyway, and what Mr. Carpenter does with it is so much fun.
it just struck me that if he had red piping down the side of his pants, that would be a great Han Solo cosplay.
1:28 secs - It's amazing how he continues to play the clavinet without using any fingers :)

also could be partially because youtube hates musicians and has like a 5-10ms sync mismatch after upload
I was thinking "Wow. This sounds so new and ahead of its time". Then I realized the advertisement was still playing. Oops.
This is the same arrangement from The Eddy Duchin Story.
sligtly different. Richard replaced some strings by the piano.
and also some notes and scales are different.
Ive had my ten cups of coffee have you ? I feel like Im typing ten words a second
It figures that Seth MacFarlane has the good taste to appreciate this performance.
@vmuto1 Richard to do the singing part as well?
@Beafteck89 tha'ts the point!!
Oh I know
...None of those instruments had mics on them. o_o
That's because it's ALL pre-recorded. You can see him moving to the next keyboard while the notes are still being 'played' at....1:28
Carl Rudd there is something called "his left hand"
its not pre recorded, his left hand is still going if you have a look he just knows the piece inside out lol
Seth Macfarlan tweets sent me here
No more coke for me
One might say it was all staged, but the last piece was so out, it had to be real..sorry Richard, the ending was ouch !!
I'm Jealous. He Does this so Easy
1 day ago this video had 15 views.
Seth Macfarlane.
That's nothing. I can pat my head and rub my belly at the same time. And,
You tried, didn't you?

Yes, he was that good i would say.
I'm only here because of Seth Macfarlane.
