I did this to my jeep this week and my passenger pins were pointing upward. My method didn't work because I thought it was only 1 pin on each side that did that, not both pins. I ended up just cutting it out and welding the pin in the topside hole. Thanks for making this video! It made everything easier in this mod. I love my doors now
Hey bleepin jeep I was wondering about a cherokee soft top mod? I've seen them in pinterest and think it would be a really cool thing for you to show the world how to do plus I'm looking to do it to mine!!:)
you can unbolt the door and cut the hinge while it is still attached to the body. On the donor doors I just cut the hinge through on the body side at the junkyard.
thanks alot Matt before watching your videos I did not know how to do an oil change. . now I take it apart and rebuild it no problem your the best keep up the awesome videos!!!
listen again starting at :42 You don't have to do anything to the frame side but you will have to cut your original hinges while on the frame. I cut the hinges off the frame so I could show you better how to cut them.
sure, the door is the same, only more wires than mine. If there is not a disconnect then you'll just need to cut the wires and get some male/female connectors to put everything back together. I can try and make a video on how to do that when I get a chance!
Did it on my two door. And worked perfectly. It was easier than I thought it was. But two doors are a lot heavier than 4 doors:P couldn't of done it with out this vid. Thanks bleepinjeep:)
thor777mx how has this mod held up with the 2 door?! I’m in the process of doing it but I’m iffy about how heavy the door is compared to the 4 door. Do the hinges hold up?
Nice job man. Great idea. I am going to do this for my old Pathfinder. I was thinking of replacing factory pins with cotter pins, but this is so much better.
Just did this today, working out great. Just a pain to unbolt my door from the body. And I had to drill out the top hinge so it would slide in. But otherwise went great, thanks for the Great how-to video.
i cant say for sure, sorry, if you try it let us know if it sags at all. I would assume it would be ok unless someone decided to hang from the door or something.
Only about a minute or less per door to pull the wiring out. I actually got tired of putting the grommet back in so I have the wiring hanging out and the kick panel off. Not good for the wires since the door closes on them but I figure when they eventually break It will be motivation to fix it the right way. lol Right now I just have my stock power doors that I take on/off in the summer. I want half doors. Maybe next summer.
I'm planning on doing this hopefully within the month, I haven't checked to see if my pins are from the bottom on the lower mounts but I would assume it would be easier to move the lowers to the opposite sides which would make the pins face downward. Do you think that would work? I would leave the backing plates, shims, and the jeep hinge in place and move the the already cut door hinges.
Quick question. I've got an 87 xj pioneer, and it appears as though all of my pins insert from the bottom, or is the dust cap on the top covering the top of the pin?
I have a 2000 jeep Cherokee with power windows and I'm thinking about doing the removable door mod on all 4 of my doors and I'm not sure if I can take any wires connectors like the ones I got from the junk yard and connect them just to any of the wires on my car doors because I already have the connectors but they have wires on them so if I connect the wires will it work? Or will I have to just get individual wire connectors and connect them one by one ? Also how many wires exactly are in all 4 of my doors ?
stomper - I did finally make a video on this, check it out if you havent yet. Defiance, that will work and I mentioned it in my newer video but I'm not sure that this technique would be easy to swap from half to full doors quickly.
It there a good way to do the wiring if you have electric doors so that you can reattach the wiring on the full door and have the power locks and Windows and such work other than putting connectors on each individual wire??
Got a quick question i have a v8 zj and i want to do a coil swap from a 79 bronco and do a front to rear swap so i can gain 3 inches total height will i get any flex from these coils you think??
Hey, Matt. Do you have to modify the half of the hinge still attached to the door? Or how do you take the original door off without cutting up that half of the hinge?
Good video, I have a WJ I kinda want to do this to, you think it's possible to do it the same way? Also with half of each hinge being gone, how much door sag/ rattling occurs?
Hey Matt can u make a video on how to relocate mirrors for when you have the doors off? I've been thinking about putting some wrangler style mirrors on my cherokee but I'm not sure exactly how to go about it. Any ideas?
@bleepinjeep Im having a helluva time trying to get the torques bolts out. Ive tried heating and pb blasting them and i just keep shredding torques sockets. Any suggestions? Thanks
ive got a 1995 jeep Cherokee country I cant find the door bushings anywhere theirs only for 97 and up are they the same ? if not , any idea where I can purchase them ? thanks.
Hey Matt I've done this on my 88(manual locks and Windows ) but now I am doing my 89 with power everything (windows, locks, mirrors and I've got some nice speakers mounted ) any ideas for quick disconnects for all ?I didn't want to have 20 separate disconnects to fool with and don't wanna loose my goodies either any ideas would be appreciated thanks ,Captain Travis .Also any ideas for quick hinges for my 82 cj7?
travis atwood there should be a disconnect about a foot inside the jeep. but if you need another one try this: ruclips.net/video/Kdkbod4hCh4/видео.html
Gonna do this to my zj tomorrow, I know the design is different but it's the same basic idea. Just curious, do the doors feel good and tight on an xj done like this?
big question? how long will the pin modification last for bc i have a 94 cherokee and the hinge that mounts to the door broke off any ideas on how to modify if. i have the solid pins in mine and they wont drill out.
Do you always keep ky-jelly in your shop? But Seriously you have some good tips keep it up! Do you think you will do some fsj stuff some time? I'm fixing to take a look at your website soon.
BleepinJeep I’m in the process of doing this to my 94 2 door. My only concern is will the hinge hold the weight of the door? The 2 doors are quite a bit heavier than the 4 door models. Whatcha thank?
i have a 88 jeep xj 4 door 4x4 and im going to door this to my 2 front doots not gonna half them just quick release when i get the manual locks and window doors
I'm looking to have a set of full doors and half doors, how would I modify my standard doors? I figure the hinge would be the same way, but what about the speaker in my front 2 doors?
Does anyone know if this works with a snorkel? Ive been having issues and cant get the door off with the snorkel hooked up. Just curious if there is a way around this
Im getting a new Cherokee and want to have half doors, this sounds like a fun project to do with my dad
Awesome! I'm hoping to buy a Cherokee as a first car relitively soon so I've been researching mods.
I did this to my jeep this week and my passenger pins were pointing upward. My method didn't work because I thought it was only 1 pin on each side that did that, not both pins. Bought an older Xj now too. So Now im back watching all of these because they actually apply to this jeep now lol
Wow 9 years ago. You look so young. Great video awesome info Matt thank you
you can unbolt the door and cut the hinge while it is still attached to the body. On the donor doors I just cut the hinge through on the body side at the junkyard.
I did the hinge mod to my Jeep today and it works great! thanks Matt! now onto the half doors tomorrow!
I try to make one about once a week, and I just uploaded one yesterday. Trying my best but making videos is a hard job!
thanks alot Matt before watching your videos I did not know how to do an oil change. . now I take it apart and rebuild it no problem your the best keep up the awesome videos!!!
thanks for watching buddy!
Wanted do this to my front doors on my 95 XJ...thanks for the visual step by step..looks pretty simple....
Best jeep removable door video on youtube!
listen again starting at :42 You don't have to do anything to the frame side but you will have to cut your original hinges while on the frame. I cut the hinges off the frame so I could show you better how to cut them.
you have to notch the backing plate for there to be clearance to slide them on and off.
Truly old school mods. Love it.
sure, the door is the same, only more wires than mine. If there is not a disconnect then you'll just need to cut the wires and get some male/female connectors to put everything back together. I can try and make a video on how to do that when I get a chance!

Already made a set for my Comanche but Subscribed just cause this is a great video. Thanks!
Nice job man. Great idea. I am going to do this for my old Pathfinder. I was thinking of replacing factory pins with cotter pins, but this is so much better.
I don't have a 2 door available to look at, is the hinge different? All I know is the door is longer and probably heavier.
Just did this today, working out great. Just a pain to unbolt my door from the body. And I had to drill out the top hinge so it would slide in. But otherwise went great, thanks for the Great how-to video.
Great video. Off to part 2 sir.
If I don't have any KY jelly in my garage can I just use automotive grease? haha
Maybe you will do some fullsize stuff one day. The site was pretty cool it just sucks that I did not see 4x size shirts in the store!
i cant say for sure, sorry, if you try it let us know if it sags at all. I would assume it would be ok unless someone decided to hang from the door or something.
This is cool. I have 3 bleepin jeeps. One a 89 and a 93 and 94.
Only about a minute or less per door to pull the wiring out.

Right now I just have my stock power doors that I take on/off in the summer. I want half doors. Maybe next summer.
im not sure about the WJ. No sagging or rattling occurs, only the bottom is gone which doesnt hold weight anyway.
Did this today. Super excited with the results! Thanks for sharing
Great Vid Man!
I aint about to go hack the hinges up on my doors or nothin, but I like it!
not sure if it'll work on a bronco but give it a try.
The doors have a different hinge. You can still do it, ive seen a couple write ups around
I've always wondered about that and now I know. Thanks Matt!
I was wondering, how did you put together your front bumper? I love the art up. thanx.
Bleeping jeep is my favorite!! I love my 87XJ!!
Nicely done. Covered all the bases it seemed. Going g to be doing this to my Bronco II here soon. Thanks man.
id like to see that if you find one, ive never looked at a newer cherokee hinge
Quick question. I've got an 87 xj pioneer, and it appears as though all of my pins insert from the bottom, or is the dust cap on the top covering the top of the pin?
Now what should I do with the hinges on my jeep? Hammer the pin out of there to have the inner hinge there so I can make some from other hinges?
Will this work on my 94 2 door? And what are your opinions on converting into a pickup?
I have a 2000 jeep Cherokee with power windows and I'm thinking about doing the removable door mod on all 4 of my doors and I'm not sure if I can take any wires connectors like the ones I got from the junk yard and connect them just to any of the wires on my car doors because I already have the connectors but they have wires on them so if I connect the wires will it work? I had a 88 bronco and them doors are heavy I tell ya!! I just cut my doors of and it looks pretty cool
It there a good way to do the wiring if you have electric doors so that you can reattach the wiring on the full door and have the power locks and Windows and such work other than putting connectors on each individual wire??
This may seem stupid, but just to be sure, does this apply to a 2 door? I have a 90 XJ 2 door, and want to do this for summer wheeling. Thanks.
That's what I was curious about, mine's all kinds of butchered, and I don't think I can get the door off without screwing something up... lol.
Good video, I have a WJ I kinda want to do this to, you think it's possible to do it the same way? Also with half of each hinge being gone, how much door sag/ rattling occurs?
id say just take the door off completely...
no prob, thanks for watching!
Its all the same but you just have to unplug the harness from the door ever time you take it off from the pw locks and pw windows.
Hey Matt can u make a video on how to relocate mirrors for when you have the doors off? I've been thinking about putting some wrangler style mirrors on my cherokee but I'm not sure exactly how to go about it. Any ideas?
Ok the only thing I know I didn't do is cut the backing plate. Would that not only effect pullin them off but also effect puttin them back on?
Very cool and helpful video, could you make a video explaining how to install external side mirrors to make it street legal ?
@bleepinjeep
Im having a helluva time trying to get the torques bolts out. Ive tried heating and pb blasting them and i just keep shredding torques sockets. Any suggestions? Thanks
ive got a 1995 jeep Cherokee country I cant find the door bushings anywhere theirs only for 97 and up are they the same ? if not , any idea where I can purchase them ? thanks.
hey, what do you do the hing on the body?? do you think this will work for a grand cherokee
Do you have a video where it shows your quick release doors hinges? I have a 2001 but would like to make them quick release :) Thanks
Im not real sure what broke on your but mine seem to have lasted for a long time until I smashed a rock too many times on the passenger door.
is the a wire plug that you can use when removing the door so its a quick connect
Thanks!! This video is so cool and easy to follow!!
is there any mods to the door hinge on the jeep?
does the door pins just slid in after you moded them in the video
Hey Matt I've done this on my 88(manual locks and Windows ) but now I am doing my 89 with power everything (windows, locks, mirrors and I've got some nice speakers mounted ) any ideas for quick disconnects for all ?I didn't want to have 20 separate disconnects to fool with and don't wanna loose my goodies either any ideas would be appreciated thanks ,Captain Travis .Also any ideas for quick hinges for my 82 cj7?
travis atwood there should be a disconnect about a foot inside the jeep. but if you need another one try this: ruclips.net/video/Kdkbod4hCh4/видео.html
well, I would imagine that if you make a half door the weight wouldn't be an issue. The glass alone is almost half the weight!
Gonna do this to my zj tomorrow, I know the design is different but it's the same basic idea. Just curious, do the doors feel good and tight on an xj done like this?
bleepinjeep Just finished it on the ZJ, it's a little bit more work, and required using a new larger sized pin, but it works fine /watch?v=-We0bOFl_T0
Do you just have an answer for everything? What stock should I invest in?
big question? how long will the pin modification last for bc i have a 94 cherokee and the hinge that mounts to the door broke off any ideas on how to modify if. i have the solid pins in mine and they wont drill out.
Hi
It is the same operation for the front doors?
For the ZJ what is the process, for halfing the doors, mainly how do you get past the stupid security system thing that stalls the jeep
Late model is a slightly different process, but can be done. My 01 doors are removable.
Can u do this to a 1992 jeep Cherokee lardo with power window and locks and can u make a video on how to make connecters for the wires
how are the later xj's different?
wanna do this but i have a 99 with the upside down pin in the bottom hinge... Plus im scared I would mess something up
its all good. ill have to give it a try one of these days.
sweet, glad it worked out for ya.
Do you always keep ky-jelly in your shop?
But Seriously you have some good tips keep it up! Do you think you will do some fsj stuff some time? I'm fixing to take a look at your website soon.
ya, the hinges are the same. just a bigger heavier door.
What did you do to the hinge on the frame of the jeep to make it work
cool. I didn't know it was so easy.
My next project
hey man thanks for makin this video! now ima go do this to my comanche lol
I'm looking to have a set of full doors and half doors, how would I modify my standard doors? I figure the hinge would be the same way, but what about the speaker in my front 2 doors?
yes, check out my quick disconnect video
well iv heard that they sag more than the 4 doors cuz its more heavy but i was just wondering on you opinion.
Thanks a lot man bin wanting to make my jeep doors removable just didn't know how
hey I have a qustion. do you have to keep the top part of the door frame on or can u cut it off and have true half doors thanks
+Austin Wikstrand I'd keep them because it keeps it looking much cleaner and a little more rigidity to the vehicle over all.
how about doing the hinge mod on a 2 door. any problems that you can think of?
Look forward to doin this on my MJ, thanks for the writeup.
Does anyone know if this works with a snorkel? Ive been having issues and cant get the door off with the snorkel hooked up. Just curious if there is a way around this
Matt I've done this on my 94 friggin awesome, now I got a 98 and the hinges are got little different.... should I attempt to do it?
its not the same on a 97+. Some have done it but I'm not sure how...
AAPL and NFLX if you think the economy will pick back up... DLTR and AZO if you think the economy will tank again... Anything else?
No prop, thanks for watching!
if i have power lock doors and windows is there a connector i could put in place so that the locks and windows work when i put the doors back on?
bleepinjeep thanks!!
as i said in the video and in the description this is just part 1, part 2 is coming soon
maybe i should make a video "why half doors are awesome", then you can show that to the wife
no problem
I've got a 95 xj with power door locks and windows. What would you suggest to keep them functioning? Male and female connectors?
ruclips.net/video/Kdkbod4hCh4/видео.html
could you tell me if this will work on a 94 jeep grand Cherokee
Awesome. I've been keeping an eye out on the junk yards.
That must have been a subconscious thing;)
