  • Replacing the door pins on your Jeep XJ is not exactly an easy job. I would say it's actually quite difficult. You will need the proper tools, a friend or two to help and a lot of patience. I attempted this job with much failure and frankly wish I had a professional do it for me.

The best tip I could give would be to unplug the door wiring from behind the dash, then mark the hinge location on the door with sharpie marker. remove the 3 hinge bolts on top and bottom and take the whole door off and set it aside. Replace your pins easily then without the door in the way, and when ready to reinstall have someone help hold the door while you screw your hinges back on in the right spot.

I appreciate you editing this video together and still uploading it after going through what you did. I've thought about replacing some of the pins / latches in there but now I think I'll just let it be.

It's definitely not something I think I'll be doing again haha

Thanks for making this. Sometimes people can learn from stuff not working out.
And I agree, please get some glasses for grinding. Driving your XJ with an unfastened door, to the ER with a hot metal sliver in one eye, sucks worse than this job...
    God Bless u and yours.

I'm about to attempt and I think I'll hang the door from the ceiling to help maneuver.

Mine needs the pins in like 2 or 3 of the doors I have my fun cut out for me. Hopefully the brackets are good because they’re not cheap

....insert Tommy Boy reference "what'd you do" when the door tipped into the camera lmao 🤣 does look like a pain in the ass tho, think once I popped the old pins out I would have pulled the hinges off from the door and bought actual bolts and not the factory star bolts then pinned the two pieces together and bolted the door on with the new hardware and a closed end wrench, also see if you can get a air chizzel in the bottom of that pin and kinda shock it into place with a few blipps of the trigger

If you roll the window down and use an engine hoist, hold the door one person can do it easy been there done that.

Can you do one at a time to help save some trouble with it falling off?

Or, pop a screwdriver or rod into the hole temporarily. Even some wire tied up or zip ties would help prevent the door from falling off. I watched another video before this of a guy who did the pins individually and to him it seemed pretty easy.

I ended up taking the satanic little pieces of metal to a grinder. I buzzed the grooved part of the bin down in increments until I could drive them in.

Had this exact same problem even bearing them relentlessly. I upgraded my t40 door bolts to a 25mm M8-1.25 for easy removal. Working on making my own door pins so I can just have a locknut on the bottom and also replace easily. These overpriced doorman kits while working - are a nightmare and were engineered by a nutless monkey.

    Hi mate
Fair play to the video but you went the total wrong way about this job made life very hard..
you do a hinge at a time so you don’t have to hold the door, also the pin you have put in it goes in from the top as what you have done is could drop out over time.
