*Extremely Rare* SFD Hose Wagon (Hose 18) responding with E18

- Edit: Yes, they are slow to leave. No, no one's life was in danger. No, they were not heading to a fire. *Skip to 2:38 for them leaving the station*
I finally filmed the hose wagon!!!
On 8/1/18, Seattle Fire's Hose Wagon was dispatched to an overturned gasoline tanker that was leaking fuel. The foam trucks originally requested from the Boeing Airport were out of service, so Hose18 and Hose34 were sent. A services truck was also sent the the SFD warehouse to load extra foam.
SFD has two Hose Wagons. Hose18 is a 1995 E-One Protector, retrofit in 2015. It carries 500 gallons of foam (compared to 10 gallons on a standard engine) as well as 6000 feet of hose. Hose18 is based out of Station 18, in Ballard (north Seattle).
I have to give a big shout-out to loyal subscriber OklahomaEmergency ( / aajclogan )!
His question about AFA assignments last week led to me finding this page, which lists the kinds of units assigned to different incidents: data.seattle.g...
Thanks to that page, I knew that the hose wagons were sent to tanker fires so I was all ready to run out the door when I heard Hose18 get dispatched (even though it was way past my bedtime).
Outro music: Demilitarized Zone by Ethan Meixsell, via the RUclips audio library.
Almost sounds like Hose 18 was trying to build up air pressure for the breaks which could be part of the reason for delay, if anyone noticed it high idled a few times, which is what a driver would do to build up air pressure quickly.
That truck does not belong in service...that's exactly what it was doing...building air pressure....those trucks should be ready to go once it fires up.....and those guys were slow...
@@chrisbiscuit5366 Someone didn't check out that truck in the morning. That's for sure.
@@chrisbiscuit5366 shit happens, chill the fuck out
It was waiting for Engine 18 to leave. Nothing to do with not being ready.
The hose wagon used to be commonplace in the fire department. The hose wagon used to accompany the pumper on every fire call during the steam pumper era due to the pumper’s inability to carry hose.
Very interesting - thanks for the info!
I think Seattle is using one of their old Kenworths as a hose truck 😏
Hose 18 is an E-One - are you thinking of a different rig?
@@lucaslaughing No. They probably replaced the Kenworth.
They used two KW's as hose units until 2017 when they were both replaced. One was H-18, and the other was H-25.
So those two were essentially the last of the Kenworths.
Beautiful station
It is! It got retrofit a handful of years ago, and it looks great.
What type of engine is the HOSE 18? It seems like a normal engine...
Ah, okay. It’s an engine with more Hoses for bigger fires
@@meko8132 Yeah, more hoses and a lot more foam (500 gallons), so they're usually sent to fuel fires.
lucaslaughing And is That the Crew of Engine 18 or is there a 24/7 crew stationated for the vehicle?
@@meko8132 No, it's the crew of Engine 18. There's also a second hose/foam unit out of Station 34.
It looks like they have 2 tillers side by side in that house.
Yeah, for a while they had a spare tiller parked in one of the extra bays ... I'm not sure if it's still there.
Good job.
Holy shit that’s a LONG TIME to get out of the station! The only fire should have been under their asses!
Fantastic catch. I can't think of another time that both hose wagons were called to one incident. Both Hose 18 and 34 were on scene.
Thank you! Yeah, it was a great response - both hose wagons, Decon1, R1 and Haz1!
Strange how they have the exhaust exiting out of the driver's side. Normally it is out of the officer's side.
Can me somebody explain what is difference between engine and hose truck ? Thanks
Hose truck is specifically configured to carry hose and foam; 500 gallons of foam vs 10 on an engin
Just was going to ask also Thank you God Bless
I'm guessing Hose 18 is an older engine that was reconfigured?
Yep, exactly!
1995 e-one cyclone
Amazing catches
Thank you!
Fantastic catch!!
Thanks!
Turning the emergency lights on before starting the engine raises hell with the batteries. It'd not good for battery life.
Two separate batteries one for the truck and one for lights radio and computer on board i would guess
Was there a single operator for E18 since the crew of E18 transfered to Hose 18?
I'm not positive, but I think it might have been 2 on E18 and 2 on Hose18.
One more question.
Are Hose 18& 34 assigned for traffic accidents only?
@@albertomadeirajr7824 A Hose unit is automatically dispatched to Tanker Fires, Tank Farm Fires and Train Derailment with Fire and/or Hazmat. They can also be sent to incidents like this, that require a lot of foam, or incidents that require a lot of hose.
What light bar is it using?
Sorry, I'm not sure. Thanks for watching though!
Great catch!
Thank you!
lucaslaughing your welcome! Hey you should go filming with Chris (Hall 7 Emergency Photography.)
Awsome catch! Weird how they kept turning their lights on and off though.
rayce hicks That’s what I thought too.
Yeah, that was weird. My guess is that they were expecting Engine 18 to be ready to roll sooner, but once they saw they'd have to wait a minute they turned off the lights to let vehicles in the road go by?
I bet you were worried they would cancel!
I was! I'd already been out there about 10 minutes before they started loading up the rigs, so I was definitely worried they were cancelled.
Cool catches!!
Thank you!
Do all FD in America take 3 days to get out
That explains why insurance is so expensive in this area of California.
This is actually in Seattle, not San Francisco, so no effect on the insurance rates of California 😉
@@lucaslaughing my mistake
Great catches! What is the Hose Wagon usually used for?
Thanks! From what I can tell, the Hose Wagon is mainly used for its foam capabilities; it's dispatched to tanker fires, tank farm fires and train derailments with fire and/or hazmat. I'd imagine it might also be used for highrise fires if they needed to run a long length of hose to a higher floor (I guess if the standpipes weren't working for some reason).
Interesting, thanks for the info!
Those strobes 👍, leds just don’t add that great look to fire trucks like strobes did
Woo!
:-D
Is it possible to get the radio transmission of the call.
I got a little bit of the incident, but the audio messed up and didn't record for most of it...
lucaslaughing, I was able to obtain the audio if you want it. Not all that RUclips savvy to know how to send it to you. They are MP3 files. This call was first dispatched at 10:33PM but Hose 18 wasn't requested until about 11:17 or 11:18PM, but I have the recordings saved for that entire span.
Thanks for the offer, but I actually ended up posting traffic cam footage with the audio I had (and I don't have the original video anymore). The traffic cam footage is on my other channel: ruclips.net/video/iBSjbW4i0v0/видео.html
It looks like that station has 2 tillers....
Yeah, it has Ladder 8 as well as a spare/reserve tiller
one is a reserve tiller
whats a hose wagon?
Truck ment to carry more hoses and water then other equipment. Kind of like a support engine at bigger fires.
i don't go to this one & I hear it over the Radio
Yeah - I'm glad I was up "late" and heard this one go out!
Jeez long time
Ay!! Thanks bro! Awesome catch!
Also: My channel link is UCtJKYwI3G3rrIhq6VLNAgpw, not the link you have. I don't know why it does that lol.
Thanks! I couldn't get the link you mentioned to work, but I fixed the link I had (it was including my punctuation in the URL) so it should be working now?
Looks good! Thanks for the shout out.
RAREST YET
Right?! :-D
They need to replace that thing the bumper is way to small
It’d be nice if they had some pep in their step. God damn I hate seeing firemen just walk around the firehouse when the tones drop.
Eric Li doesn’t say anything about a non-emergency response
Eric Li Foam and Engine 18 were not sent for extra foam, according to the description. Nice try
Eric Li you clearly have no understanding of how the fire service works
Is that L8 and a reserve?
Alex English Yep. That's one of 2 spare ladders north of the ship canal.
Thanks Aidan! Where's the other one at?
lucaslaughing Last I heard there was a spare ladder at station 39.
That makes sense - looks like they've got an extra bay up there.
Hope it's nothing important.
@thomas breton I did, and if it's so damn unimportant then they don't need to run lights and sirens. Turn off the toys and drive normal.
Meanwhile what ever the call was for has exploded or died because they're to damn slow
Cry more
Vraiment pas pressés ces pompiers ...
Um sometime today
Almost 3 minutes of someone's life draining away.
A bit dark I loke
Slow, Slow, Slow...
Definitely. They were mainly needed to provide extra foam for when the units on scene ran out, so there wasn't a whole lot of hustle...
The other engine should have gone
@@dashcamdude6690 There's no other engine there... Engine 18, Hose 18, truck company, spare ladder, and I'm assuming an ambulance
@@Firebuff101 Yep, the ambulance is Medic 18 and there's also Battalion 4
I thought NFPA specifies the amber beacon should be mounted right rear?
They are really slow getting out of quarters
These clowns couldn't have been any slower. Shameful!
First off the truck is old do you know how long it takes to carry gear from one truck to another?
like
Thanks!
????????
3 mins to get out of the driveway? Are you kidding?? Figure it out guys...
