Talon 1 manages to track and keep in visual distance of the rogue, target seeking EDI. Unknown to him, Captain Cummings in order to cover his misjudgements has given away their engine heat signatures to the Russians hoping that they would be shot down. Their stealth is compromised and when under attack by the Russian pilots, are forced to engage.

SU-37: Has a great thrust vectoring
7th Gen Fighter: Able to break the law of physics
UCAV performed J-Turn. Also termed Herbst maneuver. It is real, it was demonstrated by American X-31 , via thrust vectoring. As UCAV did not have a biological sub-system , it could pull 10+ G without GLOC. The flight physics are accurate in this film. I was working at Digital Domain in 2005, but on different project , when they were working on Stealth. I saw how it came together. Aircraft are CGI, but their flight trajectories were generated by sophisticated flight simulation software with help from NASA, Raytheon, Lockheed-Martin, and Northrop Grumman. SU-37, in this film, have thrust vectoring, but TVC in Sukhois is available only below 200 knots air speed, otherwise the airframe would under overstressed, crew would GLOC, and inflight structural damage could occur. For sake of story and visibility in a the film, VFX artist did crush the distances between aircraft.

It's basically looks like a modified SU-27.. But SU-37 doesn't exist. I think they hade made a few prototypes.. But That's it... It was discontinued..
@@mattyboy456 Su-37 Terminator was indeed a prototype for thrust vectoring. It crashed in the late 90s, but evolved into what became the Su-35 that is in service today.
The Su-37 only existed in single-seat configuration. They never made a two-seater variant, though the Flanker family has many two-seaters, notably the Su-30 family, with the J-16 being arguably the most advanced version today. There's also the Su-34 Fullback which has its own charm.

At the inception of it's design as far as it is known, there was a requirement that 38.2% of the aircraft weight needed to be chaff and flares to better evade short range missales. This was due to the fact that the aircraft is a steath fighter. Look it up...
Depends on design of flare. Some modern designs for large aircraft use bundle of 32 , with mix of wavelengths, packed into a cartridge. Aircraft flare dispenser can carry 30 to 60 flare cartridges. Release is on a program. One program is to prevent lock on by seeker. Other program releases bundle to saturate seeker with a soup of wavelengths.
Sukhois use 30mm canons those shells are basically grenades, but here they seem to be doing damage like pistol rounds😂

Don't you just love it when the planes you're dogfighting don't follow the simplest laws of physics? Like turning around mid-flight and preceding to fly 300 knots sideways while having a perfectly stable nose attitude, or losing all airspeed in 2 seconds, only to regain all airspeed in 1 second (the merge)

I understand that this is a movie, still I think that SU37 would have been far harder to destroy since it uses thrust vectoring in real life.
There su30s and they put up a good fight considering their going against a 6gen supermaneuverable aircraft that regains its speed in an instant
A human pilot couldn’t make that sharp turn like EDI in real life that’s a lot of G’s on the human body
There are more Su-37's in this clip than were made IRL.
And thrust vectoring isn't a instant dogfight win mate.
True to a certain extent. However, these Russian pilots were going against a UAV and the top ace in the US Navy with far more training hours than the Russian counterparts. Trust vectoring takes a toll on the human body so the Russian pilots cannot pull 9gs for very long. It will tear the pilots apart before the planes crash.
@@tshavfengvang7831 Full credit to the US pilots who have far more hours of flight experience, but don’t let that fool you. During the Korean War Russian pilots actually flew the MIG15 against American F86 and those pilots were veterans of WW2 who flew against Germany. I just like Russian fighter jets because of they are designed and how they are used. The SU37 I think is one of the best prototypes of Russian aircraft that is built for dogfight since it never went into service. But it all goes to the pilots, how well do they know their planes and it’s capabilities.
Sad part is, when I first saw this movie, I thought no way would a dogfight with a stealthed aircraft ever get this close. However, after seeing several DCS World videos where they try their best to emulate the RCS of stealth fighters using the missiles that were in service when this movie was made, the majority of them devolve into dogfights after the radar guided missiles are all expended.

@@RedneckRapture I never said one happened. The only fighters that are definitely stealth (F-22/F-35) are operated by countries that are Allies with each other. The Su-57 and J-20 might be stealth (and that’s a big might) but there’s been no war between russia/China and an operator of f22/f35. However, the right response to not having real world data is not to treat a fucking video game as somehow definitive

"Stealth" is for me the worst aviation themed movie ever produced.This scene is particularly embarrassing to watch. This movie presented the scenario of NGAD and Ai controlled advanced flying weapons long before the concept became mainstream famous.
The Stealth was ahead of its time.
That is why the physics of flying is out of reality because Hollywood was still unsure if public would accept realistic dogfight as entertaining.

I love that movie, it's a shame that it wasn't well received, you could almost say it was ahead of its time with all this stuff about AIs nowadays.
Well looks like back in 2004-05, people were confused between Su 30MKI and Su 37 as both got canard, same engine same design but MKI is twin seater. Well this is not the mistake made by creators in this scene the main problem is with, in the CGI they show twin seater and F 16B/D/F like bubble canopy while in practical explosion models were crafted as single seater with as usual Su 27 canopy.
I think the one in CGI unit and other in practical effects don't talk with each other much

None of you have seen Lockheed and Boeing's NGAD fighter proposals? They look startlingly similar to EDI, and are realistically more capable, as they're able to destroy targets from many kilometres away without being so much as detected. Hell, that's true even of the F-22 today.

To answer EDI's question, the programs that were built into his memory were only there as a reference that they didn't mean the attack was meant for that country but for that scenario. Ex-what happened with Ragoo. It was meant as a way that if a squadron was out flying training or something, instead of coming back to the ship for briefing they can get the info enroute to the new target.

Precisely the maneuver that is so particular to SU Flankers is the one that the other fictional planes make on them and the flankers never make (of course there is the problem of energy loss that the fictional planes seem not having but still)...
...some writer or some military advisor butthurted by the existence and capabilities of the SU Flanker series detected.
The move the UCAV pulled is physically impossible for even the Russian flankers, the UCAV used its VTOL system after it banked right, leveling off and hovering while rotating to track the flanker, no flanker can VTOL, the maneuver your thinking of is the cobra, where the aircraft rapidly pitches upwards, bleeding speed to allow the tailing craft to pass it.
And yes I'm aware the UCAV is of fictional design.

It's a real shame the Su-37 crashed before it could actually enter service. Had it actually been mass-produced, there could've been at least hundreds of them serving alongside the Su-57. The Su-57 at least is basically a reincarnation of the Su-37 in a more stealthier body and better thrust vectoring.

That is NOT an SU-37 Terminator. That's more like an SU-30SM with SU-37 paint job camo. I've played AC7 Skies Unknown and they modeled real life plane perfectly. In the game the SU-37 only have a single seat and the cockpit is smaller than that

@@TeoDP7 the canopy size for the SU-37 should be smaller and it's a single seat, not two. And that canopy has the size of an SU-30SM and the SU-30 is two seated for both the SU-30SM and SU-30MK2

This movie was way ahead of it's time and under appreciated. Today we are talking about Wingman and NGAD programs which are currently under development.
I think they should make another one or sequel involving Iran or Ukraine. Then to equal the playing field the adversary should also feature it's own highly advanced fictional air dominance fighter aircraft.
To address the issue of the aircrafts used in this scene.
1, How did the Russians detect these highly advanced American stealthy aircrafts?
2, on the issue of the American aircrafts not obeying the law of physics, I believe that is the aim of any air superiority aircraft development. We don't expect it to behave like any currently existing aircrafts including the terminators in this clip.
3, the idea behind the tech these aircrafts have is to penetrate and operate in any environment sovereign or contested with ease.
4, on the issue of the terminators 30mm gun punch holes on the Talon wasn't a true depiction. Of course it shouldn't be, cause we don't know the kid of advanced armour or body it's built with.
5, It wasn't meant to be a fair fight.

You do realize the Gsh-30-1 fires 30mm grenades at 900m/s. That's an huge explosion on impact and lots of kinetic force impacting the thin metal that covers the plane. One hit and the plane would be destroyed or unflyable. Here it's like they shot him with 5.62mm lol

As long as you have an ir lick on it its not to far out of possibility, that being said no pilot would actually do it because of how risky it is.
Some modern IR missiles, like IRIS-T and AIM-9X can do that. The IRIS-T can even engage targets behind the launching aircraft.

Its actually not all that impossible. Apparently the Russians had a problem with it when they were developing the MiG-25. The standard doctrine was to fire 2 missiles at their target (presumably an SR-71 or a bomber, etc.) One radar-guided, one heat-seeking. They had to train their pilots to always fire the heat-seeker first. Because if they fired the radar-guided missile first, the heat-seeker had a bad habit of locking onto it. As a result, not only was the heat-seeker not locking onto its actual target, but could end up destroying the radar-guided missile, thus wasting both.
AI can take a bunch of parameters ( air speed, weight, thrust, position, airframe durability...) calculate, execute counter measure, maneuver with perfect precision and faster than you blinking your eye with no G force limit. The era of human pilot will soon be ended.
