- This is probably my favorite performance ever of this song.
Michael and Rebecca are just magical together.
I would love to hear them sing the title song from Phantom some day.

I don't understand why I find this so unbearably adorable.
I have the weirdest crush on Michael Ball. At any age.
Dear Michael..is always so charming to his leading ladies! He has such a great personality!!!!....not to mention that gorgeous voice!!
Rebecca Caine has the voice i always imagine the real Christine had. A deep soprano voice
You can hear her sing the complete role on the original Canadian cast recording. She's definitely my favorite Christine.
Agree. To this day, she is the best Christine for me!
The chemistry between Rebecca and Michael is lovely. You can tell they’ve been friends forever.
Rebecca is my favorite Christine! I really love her voice. It's kinda magical 💖 Such a queen, truly angel.
I never realized how much he and Michael Crawford look so much alike. Love MBs blue eyes and dimples. I tHINK I AM IN LOVE . WOW. MBALL IS ADORABLE.
Michael has sung this with an impressive list of women: Sarah Brightman, Claire Moore, Jan Hartley, Lisa Hull, Lisa Vroman, Lesley Garrett, Kiri Te Kanawa, Montserrat Caballé, Marie Zamora, Danielle Everett, Connie Fisher and I'm sure many more...
But this is my favourite - there's just something special when Michael and Rebecca sings together.
He can sing to me any day ... love his eyes and how he's SO into the mood of the song. :)
Their voices just blend together brilliantly and Michael looks great in that longer jacket😀😀😀
WOW! He is so smooth and she is almost angelic, together they are something else!
Michael Ball has the most wonderful voice ever
These two have some of the truest, most natural and vibrant chemistry the professional stage has ever seen. Gorgeous.
simplystreeptacular The were also the original Marius and Cosette in Les Miserables.
Close to the chemistry Dolly and Kenny experience
Very true. Looks that way to me also.
When he smiles at her it is a different smile than he has shown the other women. I have a crush on him also. He is so charming and talented and full of energy. Sexy of course. So handsome at any age. Wow!!!
Very true. I agree.
Very true
I am so proud that Canada produced both one of the best Phantoms and one of the best Christines.
Wow. I think that's the most romantic/chemistry filled rendition of that song I have ever heard! And they're not even in full character/ doing a show! Wow, these two are awesome apart- but absolutely incredible together!
christine and raoul have always reminded me of marius and cosette, so it makes sense for the original marius and cosette to sing this
The clarity and power of those last notes is amazing.
These two are amazing together! Made the song so dreamy like it should be.
Just beautiful. Michael no matter what. You my man. Sing to me anyday.
Beautiful voices!!!!!
Wow what a voice she sing s like an angel
These two performers are commensurate vocalists. This is my favorite rendition of this beautiful, passionate song written by Andrew Lloyd Webber. Their voices are not only wonderful, but there is amazing chemistry between these two artists. I watch this video all the time. ‘UTube’ is so fantastic. 🥰👍☺️
Rebecca joined the original cast in London when Sarah Brightman left. The altenate Christine (Claire Moore) was promoted to principal and Rebecca was brought in as the new altenate. Michael Crawford and Steve Barton left for Broadway and Dave Willetts and Michael Ball joined the cast still with Claire as principal Christine and Rebecca as the altenate. While there are no official recordings of Rebecca and Michael there are a few unofficial ones.
Great voices!
I always associate Marius and Cosette. Raoul and Christine. Anthony and Johanna. I think its due to the musicals epicness and the fact that they share similar voice parts. The guys being Baritenors and the ladies being sopranos.
marius and cosette reunited
marius and cosette
Getting my dose of Michael!!!! You, Michael, are so tender with her. I can only IMAGINE!!!!!!
I am so smitten with you Michael. You are so dear with every leading lady!!!! How I wish I could have been one of your friends.
I saw Colm Wilkinson and Rebecca Caine do Phantom in Toronto years ago. Both were incredible. Andrew Lloyd Webber wanted Colm for the original Phantom but he was committed to Le Miz at the time.
charles rogers I'm glad he wasn't chosen Michael Crawford is better then Colm Wilkinson
@@CanadianGuy2004 i was gonna say the same thing. I still prefer the haunting voice of Michael Crawford than Colm's. 😊
@@CanadianGuy2004 bro Colm didn't get the memo about The Music of the Night being legato.
They are THE original Marius and Cosette. (1985 - London) The show didn't open on Broadway till 87.
Michael was also Marius on the complete symphonic cast recording(1988) and in the 10th anniversary concert(1995)
They both appear in the finale of the 25th anniversary concert (2010) too.
As for Phantom: Michael was Raoul in the 2nd London cast and Rebecca was the Altenate Christine at the same time.
REBECCA CAINE IS THE BEST EVER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
She later on originated the role of Christine in the Canadian production alongside her former Les Mis costar Colm Wilkinson as The Phantom.
And they were incredible!
Did a workshop with her a few weeks ago. Still freaking out. For all eternity.
That performance gave me chills, totally awesome. She has the same caliber as Sarah Brightman.
Is that just me, or i see the REAL chemistry? 🥺
ahh!! i can't stop thinking about marius and cosette when i watch them sing this. they're so cute!
yep, she was also in the London production as the altenate. Actually at the same time Michael Ball was in the London cast.
No me canso de escuchar esta versión. La orquestación me encanta. Adoro a Michael. Como he tardado tanto en descubrir a esta estrella
Great chemistry..best version.
Michael Ball is the most beautiful man ever!!!
I love this performance. Thanks for uploading! :)
Michael is the best!
I love them so much🥺
Beautiful
The credits on the recording say Montserrat Caballe sang soprano, but it was actually (obviously) Rebecca Caine here. (Ms. Caballe was indisposed.) Ms. Caine was the principal for the first Canadian touring production.
I have decided that Michaels Ball and Crawford were twins; separated at birth. How uncanny that they should look so much alike. Amazing like that, does not happen, that they should both be singing the sAME SONGS. ANY ARGUMENTS ???
THEY ARE BOTH CUTIE-PIES.
Does anyone else think that this was the cutest kiss... ever?
Play boyzone with Pavarotti singing No Matter What
Just beautiful!
I think Crawford and Barton was in the London show for about a year before going of to Bway. Brightman left some time before but came back to the London show for a few weeks to get ready for Broadway - she was the principal Christine for about a week or two with the 2nd cast (Dave Willetts and Michael Ball) For those weeks Rebecca Caine was still the altenate and Claire Moore got a few weeks off before going back as principal Christine opposite Willetts and Ball when Brightman left for Bway.
Think this my favourite version!!!!!
It doesn’t get better.
@joysanwhoa Yeah, they have amazing chemistry together.
I would love to hear them sing the title song from Phantom together.
Ball is fab
Many :) He recorded it on one of his albums, but there are many videos here on youtube of him singing it too. Search for "Michael Ball and Lesley Garrett - Phantom of the Opera" -that one is my favourite :)
Mine too. Lesley gave him a kiss for all of us!!
Wow!!!Awsome!!!😅😅
I’m in love 🥰
Ohhhhhhh 🥲
her dress is terrible for her... LOVE this
I love their singing I just wish they had better chemistry!
It's okay, it's not a stupid question. I was referring to Ramin Karimloo and Rebecca Caine (a former Christine), both are Canadian.
Rebecca Caine being loved more in Phantom of the Opera fandom than Les Mis
she has a great christine and the had great chemistry.... but i really want to see micheal ball as the phantom
Alex Wyman he's not the phantom he's Raoul
yes..? i want to see him as the phantom though
Marius and Cossette!!! ❤
I watched all of Michael Ball's performances of the same song with various women - good thing it's all fake or just for show, otherwise he sure loves a lot of women...
At the moment my absolutely favourite is Dave Willetts (the 2nd London Phantom). Others that I really like: Michael Crawford, Earl Carpenter, John Owen-Jones, Ethan Freeman, Peter Karrie, Hugh Panaro.
Ramin is sadly low on my list(nothing against him personally though) but he is definitely not the worst I've heard either. (that "honor" goes to Paul Stanley and Üwe Kröger)
Paul Stanley was horrible.
Lovely! When and where was this done?
I have "I heart Michael Ball" tattooed on my left bum cheek!
Of course it's two different stories - but as this is the original Marius and Cosette it's quite understandable to connect the two shows.
😢
I know it's a stupid question but I usualy don't know where the actors are from so I have to ask...
Who are the two phantoms? Ramin Karimloo and...? :]
Which Phantom do you prefer? I am a huge Ramin fan but I love hearing other people's opinions. But... Ramin for the win
Ramin and Colm
I like different ones for different elements.
I still haven't heard anyone sound as ghostly as MC (nor hold the final note of the show for as long as he did. Check out some live videos).
John Owen-Jones' or Anthony Warlow's voices could easily be lures behind a sus mirror. They also have a more similar vocal color to what we'd expect to hear as Otello (the only thing we know Erik sings in the book).
Howard McGillin did a great job of integrating Book!Phantom and Webber!Phantom together as far as acting goes (also, beautiful legato lines).
Henk Poort and Mikael Samuelson have phenomenal acting on their cast recordings (Dutch and Swedish respectively), but they are very squarely baritones and not just darker-color tenors.
Highly recommend all of these. There are so many who've done such wonderful jobs, but these are the ones I always find myself coming back to.
for anyone who cares Rebecca Caine was in the original canadian cast of phantom of the opera there a videos posted here on youtube
well there is much less of an age gap, so he felt more free to be physical with her.
I agree with you about Rebecca being one of the best Christines there ever was. Her and Claire moore are my favourites.
Ramin on the other hand... The only role I've heard/seen him in where I liked him was Enjolras in Les Mis. He was okay as Raoul but I can't stand his Phantom(original and LND) or his Jean Valjean.
What year is this from?
@janmac52 It's from The Royal Albert Hall in London and I think it was in 2001.
Thanks for that info. I was wondering where it was from, too.
gasp! it's the original marius and the original cosette singing a love song that doesn't have eponine in i too making everyone hate cosette
Michael Crawford, John Owen-Jones, Colm Wilkinson, and Earl Carpenter!
cosette and marius!
For how long Sarah and Michael were in the original London cast at the beginning of the Phantom
Marius and Cosette :3
Claire Moore
oooh, I misread it! I thought you said there were two canadian phantoms and one Christine. Thank you anyway ^^
9
it's because they're the original marius and cosette, i never said that les mis and phantom are the same story lol
Sarah and Rebecca are both good. It's just a matter of preference. Rebecca has a lighter voice; less weight to it. Sarah has more vibrato-more like I sound. Preference...
Both are good, most definitely.
Brightman is actually much brighter, much more forward. (That's where we get that tendency towards nasality, though nowhere near that of some other Christines.) Even more recent recordings of her singing high C and up are extraordinarily bright, especially compared to an opera singer like Caine.
Caine uses a lot more space in the top and back of the head. There's more of that dark resonance. She's clearly using both light and dark resonances (chiaroscuro), rather than relying very heavily on the chiaro (bright, forward) than the scuro (dark, backward).
As for more classically-bent things that Brightman sings these days (below high C), it seems to lean even too much towards the scuro, to the point that it can sound swallowed. Because of that more swallowed sound, I actually prefer her more belty stuff. Seems like she found the balance she wanted much more easily with that and she sounds great with it.
Ball is the best Raoul.
Rebecca Caine will always be my favorite Christine.
Just don't say anything good about Hugh Hefner.... she'll unfriend you on Facebook.😂
Pooey yes it's fake love on stage only one woman will ever have his heart in real life his Cathy and of for his dogs😀😀
She really seems to struggle to sing in this style, right down to her overly mannered facial expressions. She also slides into notes a lot of the time. She can belt the high notes well maybe? But her modal range is weak.
