GWS and Gold Coast were expansion teams that joined the AFL in 2011/2012. As these are the highest scores since 2010 only, these teams feature a lot because basically they were rookie kids with a smattering of aged veterans. When they had good players (courtesy of good draft picks), these kids would often leave for big contracts elsewhere hence both sides languished near the bottom for years

    • @berranari1
      @berranari1 5 месяцев назад

Hi Johnny, I just came here to say what David has written here.
This video is misleading for you, the new teams got some veterans from other teams but they were still mostly kids playing against experienced stronger men and it was all about them learning.
Also GC had a Rugby League player Carmichael Hunt and he actually kicked their first goal in a AFL game or was it the goal that won them their first AFL win against Richmond?
Maybe he did both, but he also was a bad influence on the young players in the Suns team.
GWS had another Rugby star, Israel Falou, he's another story.
The GWS Giants were successful in the end making it into an AFL Grand Final, but the fact that they were inexperienced as a club were exposed by their experienced Richmond opponents and GWS were smashed in that GF.
GWS had beaten Collingwood to get to the GF and Jeremy Cameron got the first goal of the match for the Giants. But then Richmond got the next 11 goals and won one of the most one-sided grand finals in VFL / AFL history.
As a Collingwood fan I was cheering on every Tiger goal and it was a great game to watch since they scored goal after goal. 🐯
It would be a fun drinking game. 😮
As you saw in 2023, GWS Giants were really good last year, only losing to the eventual champions by one point in the preliminary final. 👍
It is difficult for any new teams.
In 1997 Port Adelaide faced Collingwood in their first game. It was a blow out.
In 1991 Adelaide Crows played Hawthorn Hawks in round 1. Hawthorn won the AFL GF in 1991.
Hawthorn started in 1924, along with North Melbourne and the Bulldogs.
When I say started, I should say that they were admitted to the VFL.
North Melbourne and the Bulldogs are actually older football clubs than Collingwood but they only were put in the VFL in 1924.
And for a few years they were getting smashed by the existing teams and so were Hawthorn. In fact it was many decades before the Hawks and Kangaroos were in contention for winning the premiership.
Check this stuff out Johnny, it's interesting.
The Hawks won their first premiership in the 1960s and they have managed to win at least one premiership in every decade since.
North Melbourne were a rival to Hawthorn in the 1970s and they won their first VFL premiership with the help of the legendary football hero Ron Barassi as their coach.
The Bulldogs are another story, they had success in 1954 and that was because of Ted Whitten.
Ted Whitten Snr and Ronald Barassi Jnr are two of the greatest people in the history of Australian Football.
I know that I said Norm Smith was like our Vince Lombardi.
Well think of Barassi as our Al Davis, except that Barassi changed teams.
Barassi played for Melbourne, under Norm Smith and then he switched to Carlton, this was back in the 1950s and was not seen before and it was a huge thing. He was a player and the coach of Carlton.
After retirement from playing he coached North Melbourne and got that team their first success.
Many years later he went to Sydney to coach the first interstate VFL team the Sydney Swans. At the time the Sydney Swans were being destroyed on the scoreboard by other teams, much like the GC Suns and GWS Giants were in the video.
So what David and I are saying is that every team has been beaten up when they were new to the league.
But in the case of GWS and GC they had mostly very young guys playing and they were playing to gain experience.
      Experience of losing?
      Hey that's football!
      All football. 🏈 ⚽
I hope my Baltimore Ravens can bounce back from losing the AFC championship game to KC.
We will see. But the AFL is next.

You may already know this, the coach of Carlton Michael Voss was one of the greatest Lions players of all time. He was their captain when they played in four grand finals in a row 2001 to 2004. The coach of Collingwood, Geelong and Essendon were players in the same teams with Voss.

Hi again Johnny just one more thing:
That Hawthorn Vs Port Adelaide game score.
    Hawks. Power.
    G B TOTAL. G. B. TOTAL
    8 1. 49. 0. 2. 2
    17 4. 106. 2. 2. 14
    23. 6. 144. 5. 2. 32
    31. 11. 197. 5. 2. 32
    Johnny, these scores are cumulative.
We always write the scores for the match like this.
So in the 4th quarter P.A. power scored "zilch", zero, nothing.
We can see this because their score at the end of the 4th was the same thing as the end of the 3rd, "32 points".
Now looking at the second line (2nd quarter), this shows us the score at the end of the 2nd quarter (half time).
It was 106 to 14 at halftime.
Hawks got 9 goals in the 2nd term (to add to the 8 goals from the 1st).
Port got 2 goals and 0 behinds for a total of 12 points in the second quarter.
Just give it a little study, Johnny and you will be able to read a complete score like this at a glance, now that you know that it is not quarter by quarter but cumulative. 👍
I think it was because Port Adelaide scored zero in the final term was confusing. But it was a bigger thrashing than you thought. Hawks were obviously killing them on offense and defence.
And look at the first and last quarter from Port..2 points in the 1st and zero points in the 4th. 😮

    Hi Johnny. 😀
The T20 cricket world cup is playing matches in the United States and the West Indies.
I'm guessing that the USA will have a team playing in it. 🏏
I didn't think that you were going to want to watch any cricket after that first video, but I am really happy that you overcame the "comparator" concept and can enjoy it with us and the millions of others (mostly Indians).
The last T20 match between Australia and the West Indies was a "smash fest".
    So many 6s were hit.
I'm not a big fan of T20 at the international level, but the T20 world cup will be an exciting introduction to the sport for you Johnny. ✅
You have to check it out. At least on the television. 📺
You might be able to get to a match in person even. 👍

Ronald Dale Barassi's father, Ronald J Barassi also played for the Melbourne football club. Ronald Barassi Snr was killed in action in Tobruk, Libya in World War 2 when Ron Barassi was 5 years old. Ron Barassi was always involved with ANZAC day.
Barassi played in 6 premiership wins under Norm Smith who was a father figure to him. 🔴🔵
He coached Malcolm Blight, Sam Kecovich and others at North Melbourne Kangaroos. 🔵⚪
But before that he had made Carlton fans very happy with the success that he had brought to that club. I know a guy who says that he was a Melbourne fan but he switched to Carlton because of Ron Barassi and he is been a Carlton supporter ever since. The guy, not Barassi.
[Barassi himself was a Melbourne fan and he was very happy when the Demons won the flag.]
Barassi coached the Melbourne Demons and the Sydney Swans. 🔴⚪
He did not win the premiership with them but he did improve the position of the team and the state of the club in both cases. 👍
A few years ago he was injured while he was saving a lady from some bad guys in St Kilda. 😮
He was in his late 70s at the time but he was standing up to thugs to protect the innocent and vulnerable person.
The man was an absolute legend. ❤
He passed away in 2023 in September. He was 87 and he had recovered from the incident in St.Kilda years before. He was very happy when Melbourne won the cup, you can even see him with the AFL premiership cup in videos here on RUclips.
I would love to see a video about Ron Barassi Jnr from you Johnny, because I think you will like him and also because you do great research.
    Barassi #31 🔴🔵

The Suns frustrate me so much. Their games at Carrara, particularly this season, show just what they could be; the day they figure out how to take that on the road, they'll flip from a joke to a powerhouse; I just wonder if they ever will. Dimma's one hell of a coach, but coaching a team that has to get on a plane for every single away game, instead of not even having to leave the city for half their away games, has to be a learning curve for him as well.

Every season the teams play two practice matches. They play six 20 minute quarters and in the first game have an unlimited bench. So they get to try out new recruits, new tactics, players in new positions. Yesterday the Lions played the Suns. At one stage the lions were 48 points in front playing most of their best players. Then they brought on most of their reserve players and new 18 year old recruits. The lions won by ONE point. Next week we play Sydney. Different rules against. If you don’t want to know all this stuff let me know otherwise I’ll keep you informed.

Hi Johnny after losing last years grand final by 4 points and NFC Championship game by 3 points 2024 must be the year of the Lion

    • @berranari1
      @berranari1 5 месяцев назад

In Chinese Astrology it is the year of the Dragon. 🐉
But there is no Lion year in that, so maybe the Dragon is like the closest thing to the lion.
There's a year of the Tiger.
It was a good year for the Detroit Lions, but it is a pity that franchise has not been to the Superbowl.
The Superbowl was great though. 👍🏈
      Lions and Dragons?
      🦁 🐉
It's not about them being related, they are both symbols of power and thus could be interchangeable.
I'm only joking about the astrology but I am serious about the dragon and the lion being symbols of power and strength.
