    City of Brass will deal damage to you even through Urborg but won’t hurt you if you somehow prevent damage from it - Mana Confluence is a cost of life, whereas City of Brass is a triggered ability.

      Chang Musty - that does work to deal the damage, but Rishidan Port wasn’t printed until several years later. Icy Manipulator was in Alpha and Beta, and Cuty ofBrass was that in Antiquities.

    Made a first sliver “changeling” deck that is a lot of fun! Having changelings cascade into other changelings, getting me dragons from Lathis’ etb trigger and destroying stuff from the reaper king’s ability while making me both dogs and cats from the ten and seri inseparable trigger.... tons of fun, even if a bit complex....

    From someone who dabbles in cedh and high power primarily, think you guys did an awesome job with this! Also love the content. The one quibble I would have is that force of negation is probably not great in foodchain sliver because that's not really the type of game you'd like to be playing. You play food chain to get under decks and present an early efficient combo, the fact that you only combo at sorcery speed and you're 5c so you can play literally any card, means you really want all your interactive spells to be good offensively (i.e. to force through your win). Because FoN can't help you win, just help you not lose, I don't think it deserves a spot in this 5c list. A good rule of thumb I've found is most decks that want pact of negation (a great offensive counter) probably don't want FoN (a primarily defensive one) assuming card quality isn't an issue.

    Gitaxian Probe is a great card, as are other free cantrips: Manamorphose fixes your mana, Street Wraith cycles for 2 life, Chromatic Sphere and Chromatic Star fix your mana and draw you a card for no additional mana that turn, Conjurer's Bauble draws you a card for free when you need it and can be used to cycle your shuffler card to the bottom of your deck for the infinite Extract win (I'm using Blessed Respite as my shuffler because it can save me from a big combat turn as well as shuffle my graveyard into my library), and Sensei's Divining Top draws you a card for free as well. Top makes me want to run Counterbalance, but as I'm not even running Counterspell, I think UU is a bit much for a WUBRG deck. We don't need to draw our entire deck in order to win, and Sensei's Divining Top doesn't actually give us card advantage, just selection, but it does rearrange the top of our library until we can find one of our 10 fetchlands to shuffle away the 2 redundant cards. Is that a good enough reason to play it?

  • @magusofthebargain
    @magusofthebargain Год назад

    Chromatic Lantern is also correct to cut. If you are paying 3 mana for a mana rock and tapping it for 1, you are down 2 mana and a card. It will take you at least 2 turns to break even on mana and you are still down a card. Chromatic Lantern is great for ramping into BIG spells. The only big spell this deck plays is Ad Nauseam (which in turn keeps us from playing things like Treasure Cruise and Blasphemous Act), and even then, we have Dark Ritual to cast Ad Nauseam. And would you believe that Dark Ritual itself could be considered a "trap" in a 5-color deck? So is Mana Vault if it's not a combo piece with an infinite mana sink in the command zone.

    Good idea for Angels Grace I use in my Elsha deck as a backup win
    Smothering tithe out, underworld breach
    Cast Wheel of fortune until you either draw a free mana rock and play Angels Grace (from Grave, hand, whatever)in response to one of the recast wheels.
    Mill everyone out and make them draw and lose on ur turn, except you
    It’s a backup in case elsha+top+thassas doesn’t work

    14:09 It'll tap for blue as long as it's exiled, but as soon as you cast it from exile the mox no longer taps for mana since there's nothing imprinted on it. Like where your head's at, but sadly it's not AS good as you think

    cutting Replenish for Sevinne's Reclamation seems like a good call. The only downside I see in running Sevinne's Reclamation other that isn't a downside for Replenish is the temptation to run the alternate wincon package: Intuition, Underworld Breach, Lion's Eye Diamond, Brain Freeze. The deck is a bit scatterbrained as it is, and I would just cut replenish and plan on getting your Food Chain back with something like Noxious Revival or even Regrowth, both of which are pretty good at getting your instants and sorceries back as well if the game goes long.

    • @magusofthebargain
      @magusofthebargain Год назад

      Regrowth has fallen out of favor in almost every format despite its extreme power level. It's legal in Modern, Legacy, Vintage, and Commander. Only banned in Standard and Pioneer. It's a Demonic Tutor for your graveyard! What's not to like? Well, as it turns out, there are lots more you can do with cards in your graveyard than cards in your deck, and Regrowth's power level just might not be enough. After all this, Sevinne's Reclamation may be the most efficient way to get a 3 mana enchantment from your graveyard onto the battlefield, since it's basically Sun Titan on a Sorcery. Keep in mind that you are able to Mystical Tutor for your Sevinne's Reclamation and cascade into it by hardcasting The First Sliver. Assuming that by the time Food Chain is in your graveyard you have already exiled one of your three "cast from exile" creatures, and are primed and ready to go off as soon as Food Chain hits the field. That said, maybe we run City of Solitude to protect our combo, making Replenish the correct choice for getting both Food chain and City of Solitude back late game. But if all we need is 2 enchantments, Sevinne's Reclamation may still be better. How many enchantments do we have to run to make Replenish worth it? Probably more than the 13 I have pulled for this deck. Yeah, let's go with Sevinne's Reclamation or cut it entirely for something like Noxous Revival which can put any card on top of our deck for the low cost of 2 life and an instant.

    You can get around Angel’s Grace if you win using loss of life instead of damage. They won’t lose during your turn, but they will immediately lose during the next turn.

  • @magusofthebargain
    @magusofthebargain Год назад

    Rather than cutting Mox Opal, I would add more artifacts. How many artifacts should you run to have metalcraft online by turn 1? Well, without going into the math, you want at least 28 artifacts in your deck to have a decent chance of getting 2 of them in your opening hand. It's reasonable to hope to draw into your 3rd artifact for metalcraft. Looking at my Foodchain Sliver deck, there are only about 19 artifacts that I would even consider running, so yes, as much as we both hate to admit it, cutting Mox Opal is correct for this deck. Thank you NNerds!!

    • @magusofthebargain
      @magusofthebargain Год назад

      cutting Mox Opal frees us up from even considering running suboptimal artifacts in our build. This is the philosophy for cuts. "Does this card make me want to run bad cards to support it?" If so, consider cutting that card. (Looking at you Thassa's Oracle, but that's a close one and up for debate).

  • @magusofthebargain
    @magusofthebargain Год назад

    Force of Negation doesn't protect your combo, but only reduces your losses to other fast combo decks. it's fine, but I would rather keep up a couple mana and play Negate. Think of it this way: how often will you be able to pull off a win after spending 2 cards to counter an opponen't spell? Force of Will doesn't fall into the same category as Force of Negation because you can protect your own Silence with Force of Will.

  • @Ramseye123

    If you exile squee or misthollow griffin for chrome mox, wouldn't chrome stop producing mana if you cast the exile creature.

  • @magusofthebargain
    @magusofthebargain Год назад

    A few more cuts to your list: Spellseeker (for a 3 mana tutor, you could do better), Delay (very good but the other counters are better), Foresight (Manipulate Fate is better and you already have that), Leyline of Anticipation (cute card to be able to combo off on the stack, but probably not worth a slot in the deck. I love it but it's gotta go), Mana Drain (it becomes too tempting to counter a big spell rather than an important spell and UU is difficult in a 5-color deck), Necropotence (BBB is a lot of the same color mana, and although Leyline of Anticipation + Necropotence is a win, you have more efficient combos that do that. Also, you're not even running Dark Ritual. With 5 colors, you have more stuff to do), Preordain & Ponder. There are better cantrips like Brainstorm. Yawgmoth's Will. I can't believe I'm saying this, but without Lion's Eye Diamond, Dark Ritual, Cabal Ritual and all that fast mana, Yawgmoth's Will might just sit in your hand and do nothing. Shocklands. You have 10 Fetchlands and 10 Duals. What you need to round out your manabase are lands that tap for any color mana. All in all, you made a great deck. I would even go and cut Ad Nauseam in favor of cards like Treasure Cruise and Blasphemous Act. Yes it's cEDH but sometimes games do go long. Red Elemental Blast and Pyroblast are also missing from this list. These are great surprise counters for all the blue spells. Riftsweeper is better than Pull from Eternity, so that's a swap I would make as well.

    I built an Abzan deck with as few creatures as possible (some effects are so strong only on creatures or restricted to creatures, I allowed myself to play them, example mono W Avacyn or Riftsweeper) and repeated Nightmare Incursions and Sadistic Sacraments as win con, I would be really interested in a version of a deck with those as win cons without any further restrictions. Would you like to fulfill my wish? 🥺

    Going back to look at the comments on your unplayables video, its clear some people have their pants in a wad about you guys having a competitive take on things, which I think is natural since most viewers are statistically not going to relate, due to budget constraints. I personally didn't have a problem with the video. I thought it was enjoyable and im always happy to see new nitpicking nerds content. I feel like any reasonable viewer/benefactor of your content wouldve known from the beginning that your content is MORE focused on a high power level. Certainly not comparable in power level to a channel like commanders quarters that is far more budget friendly. If budget players feel like they cant relate to your "less budget" content, thats their own choice, but nothing about your video was inherently offensive. In fact, in order to form a stronger opinion on it, I went back and rewatched it to realize you guys actually seem more natural and comfortable with that power level than budget builds for example, probably since you're more used to that power level. In my opinion, your comfortability with the power level lead to more amusing commentary like every time you guys were making fun of cards that were too slow for their cmc.
    Essentially, I just hope you guys don't get discouraged. You guys are growing super fast and as any channel grows in exposure, its naturally going to come with controversies, but you guys are doing great. Some people just get a bit too butt hurt in my humble opinion.
    As for me, to quote papa Palpatine "I will be following your career with great interest!"

    Please consider my Sek'Kuar Deathkeeper deck for commander tune ups! I know he is not the greatest commander of all time, but he's a lot of fun! My build is all about creatures that reanimate themselves so I can make a huge army of Graveborn tokens. It easily goes infinite with cards like Nim Deathmantle and Ashnod's Altar. Another cool trick is using Insurrection to steal everyone else's creatures and sacrifice them all before they get them back. WTH are Graveborn you ask? Poop, I don't know, but I made my own Graveborn tokens using images of Sexy devil chicks because... why not? You can see them by clicking the second link. My only restriction is for it not to be a CEDH deck. I love your content and look forward to seeing more deck tech videos! cEDH is the poor man's vintage. It would be fun if decks wouldn't all revolve around the samey'isch combos all the time. There's so much RNG in multiplayer games plus the imbaesque 40 life is just not that... fun. Pro Tip: Extract, Sadistic Sacrament and Jester's Cap pretty much rape any cEDH deck in the current meta.
