Thank you so much after buying a battery and a starter your video solved my problem thank you again.
My sister has a Honda and it won't start, so from watching the video it could simply be the by pass switch that went bad and she doesn't need a new clutch. Thank you for the video
It could be. It be a bad key bad starter
Very well explained just saved some money to my pocket
I rigged the safety clutch switch with a paperclip and now we are back on the road again, thanks much! I wrapped it with electrical tape and then taped it all up further around a existing harness. My wife loves it and now I'm teaching her not to leave the car in gear and to always leave it in neutral.
I tried to glue in a nickel or a piece of hard plastic from my sons nerf dart but its so tough to do without removing the clutch assembly. Just decided to use your paperclip method, again thank you.
Just a note. When you're young, and you're being "TAUGHT" how to drive a standard, or Manual.... you're TAUGHT to after you shut down the engine, use the Emergency brake/parking brake, and then: ALWAYS put the car in 1st gear, or Reverse, ESPECIALLY if you are to park in Mountainous, or "Hilly" areas.
Always leave a stick shift in gear when parked. That’s your e brake failsafe. Especially on a hill
and it doesn't drain your battery?
Didn't want to sift through the comments to see if anyone posted this already, but the stuff in the red capsule was called flux, it helps solder find its way into cracks and helps clean the dirt out as well.
Thanks for the help. I have an 1987 Toyota 4x4. The clutch switch went out years ago and I had been using the clutch cancel switch, it finally failed. Now I don’t need ether of them.
It work I didn’t even have to cut nothing ama put a kill switch on my mustang for real thanks for the heads up brother…..
Yoo out of all the video I’ve looked at this one is easy understanding well done 👍🏼 thanks bro I’m do this to my 02 accord
Im glad it helped! You are welcome!
Bro this morning I put a new starter i changed the relay fuse nothing your video saved me man took me 2 minutes to fix thanks to you aloha also I subscribed 🤜🤛
Glad it helped
I did the same thing 😢
Excellent!!! I was going to do the bridge ( battery to starter, with a push botton) on my car but this is a lot more easy.
Glad it helped
Thank you very much for posting this. You saved me so much headache. It works perfectly!!!
Thanks for making this video very helpful And educational.
Your video gives me more check/testing info for a similar starting problem on a Honda Element SC 5 spd....THX!
You literally just saved me. My Honda wouldn’t crank but now it does
Glad it helped!
Totally worked, found parts on floor board so safty switch was bad.
Really Nicely done Sir!! Thanks soo much for sharing!! Keep Up the Good Work!!! I will pass on your video!!
Thanks. I ripped out the wrong wires but found the right ones and ripped them and twisted and covered with electrical tape. I am sure soldering would be 100% but I have the clutch safety override switch as a backup. Thank you
Thank you so much for this video... help me save money a lot of money... 👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾
Well done, good clear video. From Suffolk england
Glad it helped
Flux is for Sodder. Saw someone stick a 10 amp fuse in the plug. I'd like to use tape and then put a zip tire around that helps too.
Thank you for the info. I have a Nissan Senatra 4S 2019 that I've had a hard time starting for weeks, due to a clutch sensor problem. Two new sensors didn't help any, but jumping that clutch sensor did the trick! Now I don't have to unplug/replug the sensor to get the car started.
The easy way, unplug use a paper clip and stick in the plug on both wires. That's it, your on your way. No cutting, no sodering.
Yes, I did the jump wire method YEARS ago, and never had the problem again!
This is exactly what I did about an hour ago I got in my truck no start long story short I come to the conclusion that it is my clutch safety switch walked in asked for a 📎 and omw home in a few seconds
Agreed. Better than cutting and soldering because the paper clip method is reversible.
@@canuckfixit7722 where do I put the paper clip
@@tamijohnson5667 In the yellow socket that is removed under the steering wheel above the clutch. Watch the video.
Awesome can also extend the wires and hide that switch and just push it with your finger when wanting to start
I'm connecting a toggle cutoff switch on bypassed wires that connect to the two-prong "clutch safety switch" because I'm afraid that if I leave that; the clutch safety switch which is (in-series-circuit) with the Ignition key switch, will "Remain closed (energized) having a constant current flow through the whole circuit up to the starter...
I hope you can understand my concern.
I'm doing this as an emergency measure until I get a new (clutch safety switch) installed...
I might as well do it myself..🤔👍
I also understand that with the Ignition key switch, the only time it will complete the connection is by trying to (start; turning the key while the engine is still running (on).
Observation: the clutch safety switch is constantly wearing out every time you depress the clutch to change gears, which I think that is an engineering Flaw, especially for cars with "Manual Transmissions".
I'd would design a sort of mechanism to automatically retract that switch away from the constant use of the clutch Pedal, and maybe use a magnetic-type sensor interrupter...
I'm open for Suggestions 👋
You are correct Sir, if you leave those 2 wires connected they will create a parasitic draw. It kept draining my battery. the toggle switch seems to be the best option!
Great video man. Best one on RUclips. Looks like you have plenty of space down there. I got a 95 hatchback with no space ahha thanks for the help
Thanks man. Glad it helped
Seeing as how my Suzuki 4x4 has to female ends to connect to the spade bits on the switch I just connected them with a fuse and taped it together. Yes soldering is more secure.
The solder paste is called flux.... thx for the vid bro....
Glad it helped
🤔Tinning the wires with flux before makes soldering soo much easier..💯👍
Had zero problems with my car after I replaced the motor myself. Bout a week ago I was driving around watching Netflix on my lpad with it connected to a aftermarket system I installed. I pulled into a parking space and the car turned off, it’s a standard so I checked my battery with my multimeter and it was gd so I tried to push start it. No go, all the symptoms of a clutch safety switch yet unplugged with a jumper in between still nothing. I did notice resistance on ground from alternator but everything worked flawlessly for a year, I’m puzzled. Any help would be much appreciated. 🙏 Thanks
Flux doesn't tin the wires. Applying solder to each wire before joining them is tinning. Flux does help heat transfer, though.
Don't cut the wires and do all that soldiering 😂😂 just plug a 10am fuse into the connector and be riding 👍
No matter what technique you use heat shrink always helps make a strain relief on the joint and helps water proof it.
Oh shut up
Hi, for temporary starting issue this technique this is one of a kind. but without cutting , soldering so much if we by pass starter relay points by totally removing the starter relay , the car starts directly with key, is not it ?
Hardest part for me was figuring out how to release the connector on my car. I'll replace the broken switch soon, but it got me out of a jam.
I just took a piece of wire with bared ends and jumpered the connector.
Nanny state made it so I can't use aftermarket floor mats. Thanks for the info.
My God really ?
Used to be, the way all manual transmission cars started. This holding in the clutch thing came about in the early '80's. Years before it wasn't an issue. You always parked a Manual car using the E-brake, and putting it in gear, 1st or 2nd or Reverse , if you pointing down on a hill. It's the way that are supposed to be. Just don't be stupid, and always double check it's in Neutral before you turn the key.
Excellent video! I have a 1998 Ford Escort that often will not crank after a cold night. Starter is good, battery is good. During warm weather there is no problem. The plunger on the switch comes out, but I have to play with the pedal, press it to the floor then let it pop up. Still won't start. After 15 or 20 minutes the car cranks. Once the car is warm the starter cranks every time. Lately, once I get to the end of the driveway, I press the brake pedal, then the clutch, and the motor dies, and will not crank. Then I have to play with the pedal for several minutes again until the starter cranks.
The switch has 4 wires. The main problem is getting in there, it's such a tight and dark space.
Yeah it is a pain in the butt but well worth it. If you need help let me know. I can help you with the wiring
I have the same problem you described with my B200 mercedes 2007. Can I replace the Clutch safety switch?
Thank you
Yes you can.
I've got a 2015 Honda Civic where this switch is going bad. I know what to do, but I'm having trouble reaching it. It almost looks like I need to remove the cowling and/or fuses to be able to reach. Any suggestions?
How do you do a 1986 corvette c-4 manual trans? I was told the shifter needed to be in reverse and then depress the clutch and turn the key tp start.
What happens to the circuit if you leave it bypassed all the time!? Will it damage Relays, besides of the obvious Risk of starting the Engine while in Gear?!
For everyone watching this video.. DO NOT do it like this.. this is thr worst way.... unplug that yellow connector. Take a paperclip and cut it down.. stick the paper clip into both terminals making a connection and tape it up.. later down the road if you were going to sell the car you can pull the paperclip out and plug it back in
I have a 2006 colbolt ss and I have no cruise control....will this make cruise to work?
Wont this drain the battery ??
Yea lol 😂 these people don't know that they are creating a parasitic draw ... that's them "honda zip tie boys" ...
Ok so doing this should not affect the cars ability to shift right?
Does this allow for remote start in a manual?
Did it work? When I push remote start on viper alarm my light flashes 7 times
Nice. But...I don't have much mechanical knowledge, but there's another component to this in the actual ignition system right? How would you know which went bad?
I tried this on my 06 Nissa 350z and nothing turned on? I am thinking maybe a fuse blew I just have no idea. I have heard a few saying you have to run another power line to make the connection work, but that really doesn't make sense because we are only dealing with 2 wires. Any suggestions please
Great video! Do you know how to install a CalPod clutch switch on a Honda Insight or Civic hybrid? Please share a video if you do. Thanks
Does this mod affect operation of the cruise control or is that the function of the lower switch I see in your video? Normally a switch will cancel CC with a gear change. I would like to do this to save my thrust bearing and for no other reason. I noticed that on my Honda Element the switch is Normally Open so the jumper will trick the PCM into thinking that the clutch is always depressed.
The lower switch disengaged CC. The upper switch allows starter to spin.
1987 Jeep Wrangler, 4.2-5 Speed...Truck was running, then DIED...Thought it was Ignition Switch, but it Works Sometimes??...Check Connector for Power, NONE??...Do You Know Location of Fusible Links??
Working on These, Is Very Rough Conditions...Too Tight!!...Thanks!!
Thank you!
i did this, bypassed the bad clutch safety swirch and still didn't start. battery is good, is there a way to remove the entire clutch starter switch wire? it obviously makes it way to the battery at some point. My truck is a 1990 Mitsubishi Mighty Max
I have a 1994 Mitsubishi 3000gt with the same issue, can I do this procedure on it as well?
Can this be do in a Gen 2?
What color is the wires in a 2003 ford f150? Still having an issue with getting it to crank
I had my mechanic do the safety switch bypass but now my cruise control doesn't work.
Is it possible to do the bypass and still retain cruise control, or does it kill CC with the bypass and there's no way to avoid it? I'm trying to get my CC back for the long drives... - 2000 Acura Integra
My switch wires are not corrupted and the switch is good too ,but the vehicle still starts without pressing the clutch how can I fix this?
Can a faulty clutch switch prevent the van from starting? Van cranks but engine doesn't start.
My clutch switch isn't plugged in and wires have been cut, witch wires did you splice together
Solder Flux, Flux paste is the name of that stuff you use to help solder the contact or joint.
Good to know
My Tata car with Fiat 1.3 multijet diesel engine stops once in a while when I press Clutch. Most of the time it happened while trying to down the gear. Any relationship with clutch switch
So why didn't you use a jumper wire? That way you can still have the plug so if you sell the car the switch can be replaced. Most clutch switches run about 20 to 50 dollars.
Just use a regular electrical wire nut of the correct size.
I mean after you take out the safety switch it starts regardless.
Sucks my mazda only has one switch directly connected to the clutch. Takes multiple pumps and attempts to get the key to simply turn to ON position
It's cold outside and I need to do this now I'm homeless and I need heat in this h22a4 ej2
Do you know anything about Mazda 8 no crank no start I've changed the switch five times and I'm still getting nothing
Will this drain the battery? I’m thinking that there’ll be constant power going through the wires now so will that drain the battery?
No it wont only power when key is in the ignition
Thank you, Very Good Video! My Accord 6 spd. still has intermittent starting Problem. Could be a lot of different things: Key Ignition switch, starter.... I don't know. IF you have any ideas, pls publish.
When it would start intermittent do you hear a click or does it crank whats your symptom?
@@JaboTheMechanic , Yes, I hear a click. nothing else. then I turn key back to acc., then turn key again to attempt to start. sometimes it starts.
I could try 3-5 attempts then it will start. Battery replaced 2-3 months ago.
Thinking of a new starter.
The CPU senses that and it will give you a "check engine" light...
It was the Original HONDA Starter! I then had this Original Honda Starter rebuilt by a good shop, It lasted 2 yrs then another Starter installed.
Hey, so my car already has this done but I want to switch it back so the clutch pedal needs to be pressed, how would I “undo” it since I don’t have the plastic end piece to re insert again?
Find a clutch safety switch pigtail connector the one that has wires running into a plug that plugs into the c.s.s
I did it the way you showed in the video and im still having problems starting it sometimes.any idea what i should do next??
Could be another issue. Your starter might be going baf
Did u push on the blue button ti start it
6:48 what I did was attatched a kill switch and hid it somewhere in the cab of my truck for security. that way I have to flip the switch on to even start the truck.. its a good way to add security to your vehicle.
Just curious on why not use a paperclip? and then tape the paper clip on to the connector? that way its reversible. just my 2cents. great job tho.
Because he's lazy and 50 IQ.
You did a great job but this is definitely not a how to sauder video lmao 😂
Just a heads up.. You can put a rudimentary anti theft device on it by adding a toggle switch to your connections.. this way whomever decided to start the car would have to know where the switch is hidden and or push it off and pop the clutch and we all know, Criminals don't want to work.
Today my frontier stop working because the clutch switch the conector is not good so I cut it and I wired both cables together just to start it and go home
Is safe and easy
I've been working on my 92 Prelude. Replaced the clutch, flywheel and bearing. Also replaced Master and slave cylinder. Got a firm padel, just isn't starting with clutch pressed. Will it work for my issue. Seems to be that switch. I'm gonna try it tomorrow, thanks hopefully it works.
That could solve it.
So it worked out perfectly fine, appreciate that. Had to charge battery, other than that. It's alive again. Thanks again
Will this drain the battery?
Yea man!! Don't do it, add a toggle switch.. ive been having this problem for years until i figured it out yesterday .
Thanks ,that was easy and quick.so tell me is it possible even on Audi A4?
It should be
Just a side note: can you install a switch that Allows you to go back to the Original Wiring Method? So When you bring your car in for Service, (These Service/ Dealer people will have NO Knowledge of your Car or have knowledge that a Safety Switch is Bypassed) & you Won't have to tell the Service Writer/ Mechanic that the clutch Safety switch is Bypassed. Someone had a Jeep serviced in Michigan and after an Oil Change, the YOUNG Mechanic Trainee reached into the Jeep after lowering it to the ground and Started the Jeep and the JEEP moved forward KILLING the Dealer Master Mechanic. The Young Trainee didn't know how to drive/ start a Manual Trans. Vehicle. He just hit the starter switch without Pushing down on the clutch pedal.
Dumb question but with doing this process are you able to still dive the vehicle will vehicle still shift through gears
No its only meant for starting the car. Its a safety feature to prevent starting the car in gear
Good stuff man I have a question so on my honda I gave 2 clutch switches just like you the top yellow one and the bottem white one. I went to the junkyard and pulled a entire dash cabin harness turns out the harness I pulled only has the top yellow clutch switch up not the bottem. The car I pulled it from just had a bolt screwed in there. Do I need the bottem clutch switch or is that not needed. Will my car start with out it ?
The bottom switch is for cruise control, so no it’s not necessary for starting the car
5:22 I hate cutting wire harness like that, y not go to junkyard and find the opposite end of that connector and cut it off and take home, then make a plug and play style?
...I think these switches also have something to do with the Cruise Control....
2018 jeep compass. 5 wires would I cut the supply and return
Will this work on a 99 Dodge Dakota
My clutch safety switch Has no harness that plug on the switch. previous own'r elliminates it wires are tied together, truck wont crank. It has power and etc. Made bzzng sound but no crnk?
What about 3wires coupler in Chevrolet Cruze push start it is not ignition on properly i want to bypass the clutch pedal sensor it has 3 wires
I have a 2015 civic si with a push to start.. do you think it works the same for that?
Keep getting stuck with it not starting and having to pop start..
Battery is a year old, starter is good, just won’t start and all signs point to a faulty clutch inhibitor switch based on forums/people with the same issue.
Yeah it should be able to be bypassed
A simple jumper would be better than cutting and splicing wires, and would be easily reversable....
You didn't have cut the 2 wires. All you need to do is just use a paper clip. Cut the paper clip 1/2 inch and make a curve out of it. Then attach the paper clip to the corresponding wires via plastic connector you pulled from the clutch switch. This will bypass the connection. If you want to sell the car, just take the bypass paper clip from the connector and connect it back to the clutch switch
You mean twisted? You’re not braiding the wire 😂😂
I’m only trying to look up jeep renegade????? These other videos don’t help!!!!! They all the same but some are different so please make a video of the one we’re trying to look for ???!!!
Idk if there’s anyone who can help me with this but I’m converting my 04 Honda accord to manual and I was wondering if there was another way to hardwire the nuetral safety switch besides the way shown here as I’m still using my automatic dashboard harness so it doesn’t have the plugs for the clutch pedal
you know how to do this on a C6 corvette?
@Jabo The Mechanic i have a 2013 fiat 500 multiair turbo manual transmission. I jump turn the key and nothing like in you first key turn. Checked battery starter and even cleaned throttle body. The car start when it wants is this a similar issue?
It could be. Or it could be a few other issues
I have a 6speed manual 2017 Chevy Cruze and I would love to do this so I can eventually buy an aftermarket system to turn my car on when I’m walking to it. I don’t know if it’ll work but I’m definitely going to look at it right now.
I’ll edit when I figure it out.
If anyone knows anything about the car I have and can help please comment!!!
Rosin or solder paste
What would cause my car not to start I have a brand new starter brand new battery and a brand-new alternator my mechanic also did this to my car where it could start without me pressing the clutch why does this happen quite frankly I would feel comfortable just fixing the problem and keeping my car the way it is but for now it turns on without the clutch and I want to find out what causes this for my car not to start when having a fresh battery fresh alternator fresh starter
Dude, you made this way to hard.
Twist them up and put on a wire nut.
Game over
Nothing wrong with mine just annoying , can I use this method? Lol
