Thank you for these podcast series. I recently discovered the current season, Capitalism - and am listening to The Land That Never Has Been Yet while I wait for the next release of Capitalism. Just a few episodes in on each, but they are complementary series so far. The production is wonderful, as are the combinations of storytelling, first-person and expert insight, discussion, and historical sources. I had not known of Gertrude Perkins and her connection to the Bus Boycott. What a brave, self-assured woman and important context. My understanding of the boycott has shifted.
I don't see how our democracy can be in crisis, especially, as you ask "How democratic was America meant to be". I can't seem to find any reference to "A democratic form of government" anywhere in the u.s. constitution, Bill Of Rights, Declaration Of Independence or any other relevant documents. However, I do recall something about "A Constitutional Republic".
You mean like North Korea?
@@bestcongressmoneycanbuy9704 No, that is a Republic, but not a Constitutional Republic. Either way, America has always funded Communism and it looks like that is where we are headed.
@@denverdon3450 North Korea is a constitutional republic; look it up. The US isn't even close to being communist. Pretty much every democracy in the world is far to the left of the US. For example, Bernie Sanders would be a centre left politician in every European country except perhaps Germany, where he would be centre right.
@@bestcongressmoneycanbuy9704 The reason I say we are headed toward being communist is because, for example, look at what our Government is doing to Julian for telling the truth. Our freedom of speech is under attack big time. If you talk about anything the government has a different narrative for, than you do, they demonize you or remove you from your platform, if you don't kill yourself with two bullets to the head. Who wants Democracy? Mob rule is all that is.
@@denverdon3450 Not sure who Julian is or the context. What you're describing is despotism, not communism. Search RUclips for "Despotism 1946" to get a really good (~10 min) educational film comparing democracy and despotism. So, if you want to rid yourself of democracy in the US, then your only other choice is despotism. If you do watch the clip, you'll find that the US has already move quite radically away from democracy towards despotism in a lot of ways, starting primarily from about 1980 under the neoliberal politicians Reagan and Thatcher.
I am Native here. My people have lost, what you say is "The Land That Never Has Been Yet" Well, it has been, and it was for ever before we were invaded and genocided ( I know that isn't an actual word) almost to the point of extinction. I am not prejudice, I hate everyone, equally. This comment is for educational purposes only. Just so you understand, Black protesters, crying for democracy, Hear this: If you were to get what it is that you are begging for, Well, you wouldn't be complaining anymore. Because you would not be permitted to speak, unless you were given permission to. Democracy... That is majority or mob RULE. which, no doubt, means that within maybe 24 hours, the white people would get together and vote slavery back in. It isn't true what they say about race and I.Q is it? I guess my people were just greatly outnumbered than.
