OMG, love your Stranahans pick. I recently had the regular expression which I quite liked. The following week I stumbled upon a single barrel cask strength for 42 bones! I quickly bought it before they figured out the price. And it’s absolutely delicious!!! Cheers to you both!
Right after watching this I just happened to run across Wanderback at Total Wine in Seattle. Not only that, it was on SALE for $48 - score! At first I wasn't sure about it, seemed kind of woody, but really opened up in the glass and it's like drinking rich, fruity, iced coffee. I could just nose this stuff all day. Anybody who likes Westland should definitely seek out Wanderback. May need to go back and nab a second bottle. Thanks for the tip!
That was an amazing list. I've had a few, or rather a release from many of the distilleries but lots of new here and certainly some cool special releases.
Nice vid guys. Sm's are really coming up. Coincidentally, my group is doing a virtual tasting w Courage & Conviction tonight. -Same folks as Virginia Distilling co. Both lines are great. Cheers from YorktownWhiskeyclub : )
Great video. The future of American single malts is exciting. I agree with another earlier commenter who noted Virginia Dustilling Co/Courage and Conviction as a great one to try. Their cask strength Cuvee finish is one if my favorite whiskies. Another interesting distillery outbhere in VA is Copper Fox. They have a single malt smoked with applewood and cherrywood that is pretty tasty. Guess you're gonna have to make that east coast trip!
Nice ! May I suggest something from Boulder spirits in Colorado..they make awesome whisky..bourbon and American single malts..both peated and unpeated...so good ! and its all over Alberta, Canada !
Currently the San Andrés wrapper is my go to. Nice bold espresso, chocolate, black pepper taste…. Oops wrong channel. A great lineup of ASM all those companies put out hit after hit. I hear Wanderbacks next lineup is coming from Virginia Distillery. That’ll be exciting.
@@TheBourbonVanmy twin and I are going to visit the distillery here in Denver in September we are excited. 🥃🗻👍🏻Here in Colorado Stranahans is very easy to find but it is expensive
You should try Old Line single malt, specifically the cast strength, from Maryland. I believe it won Fred Minnick's best American single malt last year.
In some ways, they're very much like Scotch. The flavors vary widely from location to location, and they don't generally need to be high proof to be extremely flavorful and satisfying. On the other hand, very few of them are peated or smoked, and even fewer of them are aged for a great deal of time. It truly is a new expression that deserves a pour or two at a bar to discover. Cheers!
I guessed three. I'll take it. Have you tried Balcones Mirador yet? I haven't had good luck with Balcones's Texas funk, but someone suggested I might like that one.
I find it hard to pay more than $100 for American Single Malts, when there are some many Scotch Single Malts for well under $100. $60 is a better price point for me.
Keep in mind several of the bottles mentioned are single barrels or special releases from craft distilleries. Core expressions can be had for much less. Standard Westland (excellent) and Stranahan's usually go for around $50, Total Wine has Wanderback for $68 (worth it!) and Westward for $75.

My current favorite single malt is Westward cask strength. Yummy
We just learned a couple weeks ago how delicious that one is. Cheers!
$100 for an American single malt? That’s crazy. Can buy way some seriously better scotch for that
Your enthusiasm about whiskey is contagious. Keep up the good work guys.

Here in NC , Rua single malt is a really nice sweet/fruity/malty single malt. I rank it right up there with many Scottish SMs I have had.

We've heard great things about both, but haven't tried them. Enjoy your tasting!
Love the Cuvee and Rum Cask finishes for VA Distilling
100% agree on this. Great distillery and second the recommendation. Enjoyed everything I've had from them.
@@TheBourbonVanI have a couple extra sample packs if you want and or could put you in touch w the rep who led our tasting. Would be a great live : )

I think we have no other choice. We must tour the east coast in search of more whiskey!
Clermont Steep is my fav 😋🥃
We'll need to check that out.
@@TheBourbonVan made by Jim Beam got a bottle for $45 at a Total Wine in Denver I loved it
We never heard of it. Thanks for the info. We'll keep an eye out for sure.
@@TheBourbonVan your welcome ya it's a new release by Jim Beam and I get no peanut note on it and it's a American Single Malt aged 5 years 94 proof
You guys coming Colorado again ??

We've only ever tried a cask strength sample and we loved it. We can't wait to get to explore a lot more of what they have to offer!
@@TheBourbonVan you will have to come visit Alberta again ! i will hang out with yas ! haha
Westward cask strength stout finish is amazing!
I definitely need to add some American Single Malts to my collection!
Lots of great options! Cheers!
So sad for branch point and westward not making it to your top list! 😊

Considering that's the most-recommended distillery in these comments, that is very exciting.
My twin brother got the 10 Year Stranahans it was soooo good 😋🥃
We're sure that was amazing! We're currently loving this year's edition of Diamond Peak as well.

We've heard good things from the crew at McCarthy's. We need to track some down.
Hey guys I've watched you guys from the start and love everything you guys do! I've not tried any American single malts at all. Are they like Scotch?

Might be interesting to compare them to 46% ABV Single Malts from Israel and India.
Cedar Ridge Quintessential out of Swisher Iowa. I'm not sure of their distribution range
Thanks for the recommendation! We'll have a look next time we pass through!
I like to start with the core bottle … then work my way up to the cask strength. Otherwise, it spoils you too soon!! 😂
I'm in NC but was able to order a 6 year McCarty's store pick based off this video... And I'm not disappointed! It's wonderful.
Why does Phil and Julie remind me of of the movie "That Thing You Do"?!? ;)
Has anybody else tried Bear Fight yet? It has some great flavors for a younger whiskey, and only around $40.
Have not heard of that. Where's it from?
North Carolina, It's Next Century Spirits with Seth Macfarlane as a spokesman.@@TheBourbonVan
McCarthy's Label is beautiful.
It very much suits the whiskey. Delicious.
Asw out of atlanta, bear fight from north carolina
Comment before I watch... guessing I can name four of them. Let's see how I do...
I guessed three. I'll take it. Have you tried Balcones Mirador yet? I haven't had good luck with Balcones's Texas funk, but someone suggested I might like that one.
Mmmmmm Single Malt whiskey ….. love the Balcones Cask Strength bottle we have. We have another single malt we need to crack open. Cheers 🥃🥃
Haven't seen/tried Mirador yet, but the base 108 proof Single Malt is delicious. The funk suits it.
The Balcones Cask Strength we have is over 130 proof and we only sip it with a big ice cube in it. Even with the cube, it's a flavor bomb!

Totally agree. Way overpriced
