That's made of imported barley peated in Scotland. It's then fermented by Widmer, the craft brewery in Portland before being sent to the distiller. Very interesting.

I have a store in my area that online says they have two left @ 49.99 each. Not going to say where as this store has over 50 locations and only the downtown ones and one 20 minutes away have any. Don't want Kurt from SLB crossing the border and getting them LOL.

I visited there probably 15 years ago. I really didn't like peat at the time (only rarely like it now) and wasn't a huge fan back then. I had it not that long ago, and I still slightly enjoy Port Charlotte 10. loved some of their aged fruit brandies. Their aged apple brandy beats most XO Calvados for me.
I was worried that quality might dip when they got bought, but so far so good. I worried the same about Westland and Woodinville here in Washington, but I think they've all actually gotten better for it.

I've got a bottle of their standard strength of 43% which dropped to $50 out here in California. Yeah, definitely took me by surprise when I first had it.
I can tell you that the peated malt McCarthy's uses is in fact sourced from Scotland. Steve McCarthy's is considered to be one of the O.G's of the American Single Malt scene (another one should be the founder of California's St. George Distillery right near me in Alameda) and a godfather of distilling in Oregon at the very least. He had since retired in 2014 and Clear Creek Distillery was purchased by Hood River Distillers. Sadly, Steve died from Parkinson's at nearly 80 years old just this January.

I actually prefer more of Josh & Erin more than Chad & Sarah. I think IBN has gone more specialty and is almost always reviewing "grail" type bourbons that few can get. I don't partake in the Bourbon Hunts anymore as there are still everyday on the shelf bourbons that can hold their own and don't break the bank. Keep up the energy Josh & Erin.

    • @stuffandwhiskey

Thanks for the kind words by the way, Michael. Chad and Sara are incredible, and have been a huge part of building this amazing whiskeytube community. Without them, Bourbon Junkies, Jason at Mash & Drum, and Matt at ADHD Whiskey, we'd likely not be doing this ourselves. That said, we definitely try to speak to our own sensibilities and gear our content toward what matters most to us--good value without the hype or hassle of hunting, backed up by blind tastings to further dispel the hype and fear of missing out--and we feel like our perspectives make our content different enough to resonate with the folks who feel the same way. Cheers!
