Finally someone says it. I didn't like Alastor's design to begin with but now it's even worse. 😭 I still like the show but I really don't like most of the designs. Especially as a character designer myself.
I hate that as character designers where not aloud to give our thoughts on the design like yeah at the end of the day it dosnt matter cause its been done but im sure other ppl would benefit from what others have to say constructive criticism is helpful thanks to ppls opinions of my old alastor design I was able to fix some of my problem areas
@@LovesArt23 so true. Also because for some reason a lot of Hazbin fans want to sheild Vivzipop form any and all critsizim. The only reason why we criticize these things so passionately Is because we care about the show and want to see it flourish. We want the designs to be the best they can be.
@@witherslayer-7315 Yeah it feels like if you're even slightly negative or critical about Viz's work, other fans get really defensive. It's really hard to enjoy being in the Hazbin fandom when it feels like I can't have any thoughts or criticism on it and that I'm "just hating on someone successful" instead of sharing my personal opinions. I want to become an animator and get better at designing my characters, so all of the constructive criticisms Viv's designs get from other artists are very valuable and helpful for me. I'm hoping that if I get around to making my own Hazbin redesigns someday, people won't take it as me trying to harass Vivzie or ""fix"" her characters. I just think it would be fun!
its so upsetting cause charlie gave me so much hope, she's one of my favorite redesigns, due to the fact i feel like it fits her. and then i saw alastor and it's like....."are you serious?" the community has an issue of sucking up to vivzie and not saying what's wrong with the design. its crippling as an artist to have a lack of criticism. i'm a developing artist and writer, this involves character development. and these designs just make me a little upset. alastor is someone who lived in the early 1900s, which put extra emphasis on the borders of masculinity and femininity. the personality is correct i'll admit, men were taught to be gentlemanly towards women, but also semi-negligent of the people around them (as an example, Joseph Sugarman). but the design does not hit the mark in various areas, especially the over saturated *red* and his general fashion sense. and it wouldn't matter if he didn't take so much pride in his era of death, but he *DOES*. that's why i really do appreciate this redesign, it takes up that part of him. and not only that, it uses various shades of red that pleases the eye, actually uses a TIE that fits him way better in my opinion, and makes it more believable that he's an actual DEER demon due to the emphasis on certain aspects of his design which are not as clear on the original.

Their designs do not make sense for what their background is supposed to be nor do they look like what they are apparently inspired by. Like, I low-key though Alastor was supposed to be wolf when I first saw him lol
I really like Alister’s pilot design. When I look at the new one, I kept thinking the bow doesn’t look good but when you mentioned the white on the lapel, I realized that’s why I thought the bow didn’t fit. The white was drawing attention to the bow when I was enjoying his face in the pilot design.

I'm obsessed with this design of Alastor his skin tone looks like deer colored fur and bringing the idea of his heritage into play as well. The bones on outfit really screams thin waistline to me too as well as give off the aura you shouldn't fucked with this man.
Damn, I was ok with his design until watching this video. I had no idea he was POC, I had no idea he was a deer, I never noticed his horns, and I absolutely agree on the fashion and hair choices being a bit weird.
yeah all his character details seems to be either ignored by fans or not shown enough which is why every time i learn something about the characters i shudder at there designs since they look nothing like there described
I wish Vivzie would do her research instead of just picking a popular Native American creature. Wendigos are from the Algonquian peoples, with tribes living in the lower parts of Canada and the the Great Plains region as well as the Great Lakes region. The only thing Wendigos and Alastor would have in common is that their both cannibals and deer like. Wendigos are said to like cold regions, which doesn't make sense for his birth place or hell. Theres also the fact the Algonquian peoples did not live anywhere near the south, so Alastor being modeled after a culture he (presumably) didnt live near doesn't make the most sense. Skinwalkers are from the Navajo peoples, who lived in Arizona, New Mexico, Colorado, and Utah. The only thing Alastor and a Skinwalker would have in common would them both being witch like, but its again a creature that is a part of a culture Alastor never (presumably) lived near. She should've taken culture from the Choctaw who were located in Mississippi, Alabama, and Louisiana. In Choctaw mythology there is a creature called Kashehotapalo who is a combination of a deer and human who delighted in scaring hunters. Other cool concepts would be Hoklonote, a bad spirit taking any shape it desired, and Nalusa Chito/Impa Shilup who was a black shadow that ate souls. From Louisiana Cajun culture there is also the Rougarou, or Loup-Garou, who was a creature with the body of a man and the head of a wolf. I'm sure there would be creatures from the Louisiana Voodoo culture too.
Ooo see i like that better now I mostly choose skinwalker since it matched his zoophobia lore the most but yeah the location for them wouldn't make much sense for Alastor being in Louisiana to be honest there so much voodoo and Louisiana folk lore that ive missed out on I should probably research it since everything you said was super on point 👏
ACTUALLY! other than a canibal, he literally has nothing on common with Wendigos. That's the problem with Vivziepop, like this her oldest chatacter, she apparently had him since middle school yet it's clear she basically REFUSES to do any research on the creature monster she based him on and claims him to be. He's that "deer" wendigo archetype, where they are basically a whole nother native American monster, but are only wendigo in name only. That other native American monster he IS is a skinwalker. Skinwalkers are former humans turned monsters for abusing voodoo, hudo and other medicine men based magick, turning white magick into black magick, basically. They can be turned into skinnies via other means, including but not limited canibalism but generally any crime to man kids very nature turns one into such a monster, usually some magick is involved. Further more, the deer motif plays a key role in this as Skinwalkers man associated nonhumans forms are a coyote and a deer, and unlike wendigos are capable of shape shifting... which is what Alastor is literally capable of doing, turning into a deer, not sure if it's still canon, but it was canon in his earlier days AND he still has those deer Features, taking on a nonhuman but humanoid deer like form. Some other details + He could be part native himself, even if not Navajo, some other tribes do infact have similar creatures, like the Ravenmocker that haunts mostly Cherokee terratory. + his lovecraftian powers motif, Lovecraft infamous wrote a story about a "wendigo" but how it acted and behaved was very much more in line with Skinwalkers, not wenidgos and vivziepop is a Lovecraftian horror fan + His voice, while a small detail personally reminds me of how people describe Skinwalkers when they mimick people's voices, "like a recording"
True. Though actually even the Wendigos aren't actual deers. They are often depicted with deer skulls, but that's kinda it. They're starving humans. Humanoids that look like giant monsters, growing with every human they devour. The deer part of them might be only taken as such since they're told to be possesed by evil spirits after decouring human flesh. Other than that there is no definitive proof Wendigos ever were in connection with deers

So like I'm annoyed vivzie claims to do her research, when all evidence points to watched a couple anime with the same names as demons and video games. Like it feel less and less less like her claim to have done research holds any weight
Oh my gosh he looks so cool! I'm kind of sad that the canon character designs don't lean into darker colors more, the deep reds suit Alastor beautifully. I also think replacing the white with that vanilla color was a good call. I couldn't fathom why they would include the white in his design, it was as random as it was mildly underwhelming. (I thought it was hinting a potentially angelic ties but that seems far-fetched). Plus the distribution of said vanilla color and the yellow of his teeth throughout the rest of his design scratches an itch I didn't know I had. Can't wait for the Angeldust redesign!
Wow you got all my thoughts down perfectly i had ment to talk more about the color choice of his shirt but felt id already over did it with color theory talk lol and yeah the white made no sense to me either just felt like they picked it cause it was the only color they where aloud to choose from since vivs main color palette is red, pink, yellow, white and dusty purple
Your redesign is such eye candy, and he looks much more older, wiser, and dangerous and I fucking love it. I also love how he looks more like a deer, and how you actually made use of the white from the canon design. I actually wanted to ask if I could draw him? I've been waiting for this redesign! My issue with the last three redesigns Vivziepop has shown us has kinda been weak. With Alastor and Angeldust I could barely see the differences and was disappointed because a redesign should have noticeable differences in it. And with Vaggie's new design, I love her outfit but it's just not for her if you get me? Like her outfit in the pilot was perfectly fine, just needed some tweaks to it and you can tell what her aesthetic was plus I loved her color pallette. But now her outfit and color scheme just doesn't work for me because the pinkish-red shirt and the black skirt collides with her color pallette and honestly was a but distracting when I looked at the image.
I don't think the new designs necessarily have to have noticeable differences in them, just that they have to basically improve on the previous ones whether it be for more technical reasons like them being easier to animate, to better suit the character and their role to the story, or even just for general aesthetic reasons.
This is probably one of the best redesigns I've ever seen, this has also given me inspiration for my own main Hazbin Hotel/Helluva Boss OCs: Echo, a Sinner Demon; and Lapis Malyss, a Hellborn Hybrid.
This is definetely my favorite alastor redesign I've seen! Honestly, as much as I adore his pilot design, I very much prefer this one. I like how his skintone is a little darker, along with how the rest of his outfit is much darker too! I also like how he acctually looks intimidating now. If I was in the Hazbin universe and I ran into alastor I would honestly think that he was just another random demon, but ur redesign would make me acctually nervous to talk to him lol ^^
Rewatching this series with fresh eyes and you did him so much justice! He’s gorgeous, I really wish they wouldn’t have gone so pink with him in the official design, he looks too vibrant in an already vibrant hell 😫
This works WAY more than Vivziepop's- I've never really been a huge fan of her designs honestly, a lot of them seem like they were ripped from a teenager's art book and made into a show- even some of the pilot writing choices seemed that way. I throw no shade to teenagers directly, believe me, I am a very passionate one, but the characters give the vibe as if they're stuck in that era of someone's art. The designs feel very meh to me, and I personally don't really like the proportions or how there are supposed to be reasons behind the designs that feel more like an excuse or something that can barely be noticed- I'm no perfect character designer, and my characters are of a very different genre, but I can easily identify what seems very 'wrong' to me- Alas, good job on the redesign!
Yeah all the HH cast were created around the 2000s so they still have that vibe about them and I have noticed through the yrs viv has created characters based around songs or just stuff she likes at the time not really working on why characters look or act the way they do and yeah her anatomy can be off putting since we've all be taught to incorporate body structure into our designs
I’m not that big into Hazbin Hotel but I did follow Vivziepop back during her Zoophobia days (Pre-Hazbin Hotel) to be familiar enough with Alastor and the rest of the HH gang’s original designs and concepts. Admittedly, I was a little off put by Alastor’s hairstyle in general because it didn’t fit with the time period he originally died in. Don’t get me wrong, I still like it a lot. But I was majorly disappointed with the redesigns because they just.. don’t fit. Now going with your redesign, I love how you pointed out the accuracy when it comes to his haircut and his clothing. While yes, some might argue it’s fictional and that it didn’t have to be accurate and that the time period or era in HH is different from when the characters died from and how they can change their appearance to fit the modern and current time period; but like what Vivziepop said about Alastor loving his time period/era, he would definitely stay true to the style of his time period (clothes, hairstyle, mannerism, speech patterns, etc.) in which, his original character design lacks the most. Which therefore, also stays true to his character. I definitely love how your redesign perfectly communicates him as a character and has a lot of influences from his time period (which again, he heavily loves and stays true to), definitely kind of a ‘Show don’t Tell’ kind of redesign :) EDIT: I also absolutely love that you gave him skin-walker influences to go along with his wendigo vibe, along with the emphasised deer characteristics.

One of the biggest problems with redesigns is being animation friendly… if I see ANYONE, and I mean ANYONE say that this isn’t something Viv and her team could do I will be suing. The design is so, ✨MWA✨ and there aren’t too many small details. Not to mention the Addict music video animated each of Cherri’s tattoos just fine, I’m sure they could handle something like this
I really love your redesign. I think my biggest gripe always with Alastair’s official designs is that without context, I would never have read 1930s from him, which wouldn’t be a problem if it wasn’t a big part of his character. There is just design elements like the monocle and hair that just seem out of place to me. Your design just more clearly expressed the time period thing that is going on with the characters.
I saw the pilot a long time ago and...I never knew Allister was Creol or based on a deer. I discovered your channel today and I love the redesigns. They convey so much more information without being too busy or impractical. No disrespect to the creator or the team working on the show but I really wish they'd consider you're help lol I think you'd add a lot of value to the visuals with so much thought you add to design. I say this after watching this and Solas' family redesigns. I feel like I'm learning while I watch and that I want to learn Adobe animate. Work flow looks fun and leaves wiggle room for edits.
If I’m being honest I do prefer Alastor’s pilot episode design. What can I say? I liked his hair longer. I still think this looks cool though. The tail is a nice touch.
@@LovesArt23 I totally get the undercut thing, there’s this anime Assassination Classroom (high recommend if you haven’t) the main character Nagisa I always thought that he would look good with an undercut, so of course I made an edit of it and I was right. Undercuts are a lot of fun not just because they look good but speaking as someone who’s gotten an undercut their also just comfortable to have. Especially if you have thick hair, it removes a lot of the bulk.
I've probably re-watched this video's for an unhealthy amount of time. I'm just so in love with your design. I have to confess that whenever I thought of Alastor I thought of your design instead of the canon's one.
Holy cow, I never knew I needed Alastor with bigger antlers and HOOF SHOES in my life! And I love making his teeth and iris the same color. I think someone else already pointed it out, but that could work really well for a shot of him in the dark - or something of the sort - because the iris and teeth would stand out together. That sort of thing, and honestly this design in general, lends very well to him being intimidating. I think the only thing k i n d a bugging me is that the bottom of his hair is tangenting with his jaw (and the top of his neck in the edit) and making them blend together into one mass, but to be honest, that’s a really minor gripe.
FINALLY! Thank you for drawing Alastor with him being black in mind! Literally nobody ever includes that when they redesign him they always leave it out! Especially since we know him being black/African ancestry is really important to him since he mentions his culture’s food and even uses voodoo as his main specialty. I adore this redesign and can’t wait to see the others! Again thanks so much for including him being black that means a lot to me as a black person lol. ❤️
Alot of people say he's native American, but I don't really know, He might be African but I'm native American and I'm white, but we all come in different shades, shapes, and sizes.
Thank you! The microaggressions I see pertaining Alastor is concerning but yet not surprising. I've seen comments like "I don't see Alastor being black" or "He's not black, he's mixed" like huh!? What year am I in? Lol😅 and the only time I see Alastor with darker skin is when he gets paired/shipped with someone's OC who is presumably white or has pale skin... hmmmm... maybe I'm reaching but like how come you drew Alastor to be black but didn't give him a black partner...??? Especially with the time period he's from. I mean, I understand that relationships probably weren't on Alastor's mind since he was a murderous cannibal but still... I don't know that's a whole different topic to get into...

Not sure if that was intentional. But either way, still looks class!!
Yeah I made the edit before the final design and realised he probably should have glasses but there more for aesthetic since its never been stated if he actually needs the monicul to see if that makes sense
Honestly,,,,, couldn’t agree more LMAO I always see Hazbin redesigns by people who hate the show and they never turn out right, it’s like they miss the whole point of the character, or skipping over important design details that are actually relevant to their characters. Thank you! I love this redesign so friggin' much because well... Alastor's original/reboot design just felt more like Hollywood producers or whoever trying much too hard to emulate a certain time period and just failing miserably.... Nothing against Vivzie either, it's just... Yeah...
yeah I've noticed viv has a lets say a hard time when it comes to period clothes a lot of ppl just pick whatever without really doing the research for the outfits they pick and it ends up hurting the design
I can see why she talks about the white shallowing alastor design, when I watched hazbin hotel I could only focus on his face for a few seconds, before going to his chest, and well I didn’t want to look at al,s chest each time he’s on screen, I also love how she talks about colors, body shape and lore which really helps me make my designs better and more realistic to my characters lore.
9:26 silly H/C that originally his suit was white but it got stained so often with blood that he ended up dying it. ALSO your design is so beautiful this is one of the first re-designs that I genuinely wish was cannon.
One thing I waited for the hazbin characters who died in different directions. To be a bit historically accurate in their design to the year they died in. And love your videos and amazing design for alastor.
I really love the design in making it more deer like and as much as I like bow the tie adds to the cross more and the antlers are more intimidating including the eyes that also is close the the mouth so when it becomes dark both his eyes and smile will glow together perfectly
HI!! really big fan of the darkening of the face. i think the brown compliments the red a lot more than the greyish tone of his actual design. I also think narrative-wise it subconsciously makes his face seem warmer which compliments his suave, charming personality- or draw attention to his smile idk I'm not an English major. Either way love it!!

Honestly I love your newest redesign much better than the original it looks so good honestly I’d love that they use in the shower but we all know they’re not going to.
I wonder if all of the characters getting that, like, hot pink/brighter pinky-red tone, is to match one another? Because they are all supposed to be manning the hotel now? Because I assume we aren't going to get the introduction all over again when the show proper comes out. I'm curious if the reason everyone got that pink tone, is to match with Charlie? Which would make sense, but in a way, is also disappointing they all lose their individualism. At least in my own point of view! This redesign is so pleasing to the eye, makes me wish it was canon tbh!! Can't wait for the next redesigns!! Especially Angel.
I get vaggie matching since she actually works at the hotel but Alastor doesn't actually work at the hotel like hes basically aloud to live there and do whatever as long as he helps out so why they made him pink toned to match Charlie is weird to me and yeah character's should still have individualism even if they all work at the same place but so far every one shares alot of the same styles and colors vaggie was the only one who didn't blend in with the cast which was nice since shes not a very group type person
@@LovesArt23 I agree 100%. Alastor in the pinky tones is honestly a lot, and for me personally, it's a bit of an eyesore. Those blood reds you gave him really make him pop from the rest of the cast! Because our main cast for HH is primarily reds and red/pink tones. Even just the variety of the red/pink of Charlie's suit next to that richer blood red you did really makes it pop!
I’m pretty sure they added the white because a common complaint with the show is the over abundance of red so they added the white so Alastor wouldn’t blend in the background so much tho I do agree that the white is really distracting as I’m always looking at his chest i know this video is like a year old and I’m pretty late to the party but OMG I LOVE your Alastor design I can’t put into words how much I love it but yea it’s so fun watching you draw and talk at the same time keep up the great work
I love this version of Alastor I also love his brown-ish skin color he looks waaaay more cool im not saying the old version is bad its just that it makes sense for Al to have a dark skin color and dont mind me ima set this up as my wall paper sorry not sorry at all im a simp bye
I think this is better than the original design or even the redesign because c'mon, the first thing your eyes will look at is the white. It would have been better if it was still the same lol. Your design is honestly amazing and really well thought!
i went into this video sceptical bc i LOVE alastor's design but when you started pointing out the issues with his design and especially new design i got really invested and realized that i mostly agreed with you. your redesign definitely has many parts i wish were for real even tho i don't like it more over the pilot's, you definitely had made important points and improvements!

Honestly, I like Alastor as a character! But I wish Vivziepop and her team had given him a more accurate looking hair style to the era he comes from. I really like your take on the character!
You shared a lot of the same opinions as me! i felt like so many things didn't jive with his old design, it was a floodload of red and the "redesign", so-called, is just setting our expectations as what he was like in the pilot but with a white lapel. loved how you focused less on the tumblr-bait feel to his current design but rather focus on the era and the personality/animal inspiration of the character. first off, i am proud to say that I have virtually nothing majorly bad to say about your redesign, he is stylish, gentlemanly, while at the same time still seeming like someone you don't want to approach. he seems more era-appropriate, the colors blend well and do not horridly burn your eyes or take away from his features. and FINALLY, no bowties!! I have noticed this before but too many characters have bowties, I dont have an issue with bowties but when it's overused, often at first glance it can be confusing, staring at a row of characters which look different but still all have bowties. Charlie, Angel, Alastor and Husk all come from different eras, there is much more potential of a character's living era and personality than to have them all wear bowties. the only issue I do have with this redesign is taking away the monocles and adding glasses, I just dont think they work well with his demon design as opposed to his human design. now, other than that, after gracing my eyes blissfully with your version, I wholeheartedly wish Alastor's "canon design" was different and something more akin to your design, as for now I am all but bracing myself for the burn of red colors thrown in my face when watching hazbin hotel when it comes out.
Gonna be totally honest, I clicked on this video expecting to not like it. Yeah, I love your character redesigns of all the miraculous ladybug characters, but everyone knew they needed it and wanted it. But now whenever I’m going to look at his canon design I’m going to be disappointed with that. Your new redesign is amazing! Spectacular! Gorgeous! He still has that whole Alastor Energy™️ with his deviousness and imposing stance and everything, but you can see the inspired and backstory features of his more. You can see the Creole part of him. The deer features are much more obvious and fit in very nicely. The rib-cage part around his torso is great and I am in platonic love with the hair (I’ve always loved hair that had those front-waves of sorts). And the suit! Don’t get me started on the suit. Sure, at first the red-punk coloring was fine. I liked his character so much that I really didn’t care about it. But then the redesign came with the white and…oh boy. Point is, the darker red, burgundy/maroon shades fit him much better. The color scheme works more with his whole 1930s radio host demon vibes then the previous brightly colored red-pink shades and I think you should be hired as a character design artist for Helluva Boss/Hazbin Hotel. (Course that probably won’t happen, but hey, a person can dream) Also I got to do research on what skinwalkers are now I can’t wait to see your Angel Dust redesign!
I really love this new design. While I love strawberry red the blood red was a great idea for Alastor’s character. I really like all the little dear details on his design and overall you did a fantastic job!
I just found this now, as I am a new Hazbin Hotel fan. And let me just say, I would have loved to see this redesign in the show, not that I don’t love alastors original design, but I feel as though your design carries more of his personality. When I first watched the pilot and show which was only a couple of weeks ago, I had zero clue that he had any relation with deers, apart from him eating them and such. I just love every small detail you put, you really talented!
FINALLY!!! You have no Idea, I've been waiting for this and your Is alot better compared to this so-called "Redesign". A friend I know wanted to make Alastor's redesign kinda like a mix between William Afton's Springtrap with King Dice's suit (Or Pinstripe) to match the "half demon half radio" persona or a regular cyborg-ex kind of deal.

I like that you made the tie look like an upside down cross. It just gives off that lil "fck you" Al LOVES to do to people. Especially people he doesn't like.
I appreciate that they gave him more color difference in the re-design. They did that with all the characters, and I think that Alastor looks better with more color tones rather than just like 7 different colors.

I adore this redesign, one thing that bothered me so much about alastor was his hair, like you said it doesn't fit his era style, this New design and colors makes him look more fancy yet dangerous And I loved those little rib details omg
When I saw the print on the microphone, I thought it was the veins on a heart, and I thought you made the microphone realistic heart shaped, it was just something little that kinda nodded to the cannibal and blood red thing.

Its kinda is becoming a miraculous ladybug thing the fans have made it that way along with how viv has handled constructive criticism (she takes things alittle to close to heart which we all kinda do but)
@@LovesArt23 viv’s designs are just so similar and she draws the same stuff on all her characters (the bow ties, the collars, random buttons etc.) I guess I’m just not a big fan of her style either :/ Wish we had more people willing to accept criticism in this industry- really holds an amazing story back.
yeah the my first impression of her was she's amazingly talented with her designs and color theory but now I've kinda gotten over my over the top love for her as the yrs went by and I can see the problem areas more

Finally someone says it. I didn't like Alastor's design to begin with but now it's even worse. 😭 I still like the show but I really don't like most of the designs. Especially as a character designer myself.
I hate that as character designers where not aloud to give our thoughts on the design like yeah at the end of the day it dosnt matter cause its been done but im sure other ppl would benefit from what others have to say constructive criticism is helpful thanks to ppls opinions of my old alastor design I was able to fix some of my problem areas

It's really hard to enjoy being in the Hazbin fandom when it feels like I can't have any thoughts or criticism on it and that I'm "just hating on someone successful" instead of sharing my personal opinions.
I want to become an animator and get better at designing my characters, so all of the constructive criticisms Viv's designs get from other artists are very valuable and helpful for me. I'm hoping that if I get around to making my own Hazbin redesigns someday, people won't take it as me trying to harass Vivzie or ""fix"" her characters. I just think it would be fun!
its so upsetting cause charlie gave me so much hope, she's one of my favorite redesigns, due to the fact i feel like it fits her. and then i saw alastor and it's like....."are you serious?"
the community has an issue of sucking up to vivzie and not saying what's wrong with the design. its crippling as an artist to have a lack of criticism.
i'm a developing artist and writer, this involves character development. and these designs just make me a little upset. alastor is someone who lived in the early 1900s, which put extra emphasis on the borders of masculinity and femininity. the personality is correct i'll admit, men were taught to be gentlemanly towards women, but also semi-negligent of the people around them (as an example, Joseph Sugarman). but the design does not hit the mark in various areas, especially the over saturated *red* and his general fashion sense. and it wouldn't matter if he didn't take so much pride in his era of death, but he *DOES*.
that's why i really do appreciate this redesign, it takes up that part of him. and not only that, it uses various shades of red that pleases the eye, actually uses a TIE that fits him way better in my opinion, and makes it more believable that he's an actual DEER demon due to the emphasis on certain aspects of his design which are not as clear on the original.

I really like Alister’s pilot design. When I look at the new one, I kept thinking the bow doesn’t look good but when you mentioned the white on the lapel, I realized that’s why I thought the bow didn’t fit. The white was drawing attention to the bow when I was enjoying his face in the pilot design.

I'm obsessed with this design of Alastor his skin tone looks like deer colored fur and bringing the idea of his heritage into play as well. The bones on outfit really screams thin waistline to me too as well as give off the aura you shouldn't fucked with this man.

Damn, I was ok with his design until watching this video. I had no idea he was POC, I had no idea he was a deer, I never noticed his horns, and I absolutely agree on the fashion and hair choices being a bit weird.
yeah all his character details seems to be either ignored by fans or not shown enough which is why every time i learn something about the characters i shudder at there designs since they look nothing like there described

I wish Vivzie would do her research instead of just picking a popular Native American creature. Wendigos are from the Algonquian peoples, with tribes living in the lower parts of Canada and the the Great Plains region as well as the Great Lakes region. The only thing Wendigos and Alastor would have in common is that their both cannibals and deer like. Wendigos are said to like cold regions, which doesn't make sense for his birth place or hell. Theres also the fact the Algonquian peoples did not live anywhere near the south, so Alastor being modeled after a culture he (presumably) didnt live near doesn't make the most sense. Skinwalkers are from the Navajo peoples, who lived in Arizona, New Mexico, Colorado, and Utah. The only thing Alastor and a Skinwalker would have in common would them both being witch like, but its again a creature that is a part of a culture Alastor never (presumably) lived near. She should've taken culture from the Choctaw who were located in Mississippi, Alabama, and Louisiana. In Choctaw mythology there is a creature called Kashehotapalo who is a combination of a deer and human who delighted in scaring hunters. Other cool concepts would be Hoklonote, a bad spirit taking any shape it desired, and Nalusa Chito/Impa Shilup who was a black shadow that ate souls. From Louisiana Cajun culture there is also the Rougarou, or Loup-Garou, who was a creature with the body of a man and the head of a wolf. I'm sure there would be creatures from the Louisiana Voodoo culture too.
Ooo see i like that better now I mostly choose skinwalker since it matched his zoophobia lore the most but yeah the location for them wouldn't make much sense for Alastor being in Louisiana to be honest there so much voodoo and Louisiana folk lore that ive missed out on I should probably research it since everything you said was super on point 👏
ACTUALLY! other than a canibal, he literally has nothing on common with Wendigos.
That's the problem with Vivziepop, like this her oldest chatacter, she apparently had him since middle school yet it's clear she basically REFUSES to do any research on the creature monster she based him on and claims him to be. He's that "deer" wendigo archetype, where they are basically a whole nother native American monster, but are only wendigo in name only.
That other native American monster he IS is a skinwalker. Skinwalkers are former humans turned monsters for abusing voodoo, hudo and other medicine men based magick, turning white magick into black magick, basically.
They can be turned into skinnies via other means, including but not limited canibalism but generally any crime to man kids very nature turns one into such a monster, usually some magick is involved.
Further more, the deer motif plays a key role in this as Skinwalkers man associated nonhumans forms are a coyote and a deer, and unlike wendigos are capable of shape shifting... which is what Alastor is literally capable of doing, turning into a deer, not sure if it's still canon, but it was canon in his earlier days AND he still has those deer Features, taking on a nonhuman but humanoid deer like form.
Some other details
+ He could be part native himself, even if not Navajo, some other tribes do infact have similar creatures, like the Ravenmocker that haunts mostly Cherokee terratory.
+ his lovecraftian powers motif, Lovecraft infamous wrote a story about a "wendigo" but how it acted and behaved was very much more in line with Skinwalkers, not wenidgos and vivziepop is a Lovecraftian horror fan
+ His voice, while a small detail personally reminds me of how people describe Skinwalkers when they mimick people's voices, "like a recording"
True. Though actually even the Wendigos aren't actual deers. They are often depicted with deer skulls, but that's kinda it. They're starving humans. Humanoids that look like giant monsters, growing with every human they devour. The deer part of them might be only taken as such since they're told to be possesed by evil spirits after decouring human flesh. Other than that there is no definitive proof Wendigos ever were in connection with deers

So like I'm annoyed vivzie claims to do her research, when all evidence points to watched a couple anime with the same names as demons and video games. Oh my gosh he looks so cool! I'm kind of sad that the canon character designs don't lean into darker colors more, the deep reds suit Alastor beautifully. I also think replacing the white with that vanilla color was a good call. I couldn't fathom why they would include the white in his design, it was as random as it was mildly underwhelming. (I thought it was hinting a potentially angelic ties but that seems far-fetched). Plus the distribution of said vanilla color and the yellow of his teeth throughout the rest of his design scratches an itch I didn't know I had. Can't wait for the Angeldust redesign!

I've been waiting for this redesign! My issue with the last three redesigns Vivziepop has shown us has kinda been weak. With Alastor and Angeldust I could barely see the differences and was disappointed because a redesign should have noticeable differences in it. And with Vaggie's new design, I love her outfit but it's just not for her if you get me? Like her outfit in the pilot was perfectly fine, just needed some tweaks to it and you can tell what her aesthetic was plus I loved her color pallette. But now her outfit and color scheme just doesn't work for me because the pinkish-red shirt and the black skirt collides with her color pallette and honestly was a but distracting when I looked at the image.
Yeah, I think Vaggie would’ve looked better with stuff closer to blue. Blue’s purples and pinks match her gray color much better than the red.
I don't think the new designs necessarily have to have noticeable differences in them, just that they have to basically improve on the previous ones whether it be for more technical reasons like them being easier to animate, to better suit the character and their role to the story, or even just for general aesthetic reasons.

This is definetely my favorite alastor redesign I've seen! Honestly, as much as I adore his pilot design, I very much prefer this one. I like how his skintone is a little darker, along with how the rest of his outfit is much darker too! I also like how he acctually looks intimidating now. If I was in the Hazbin universe and I ran into alastor I would honestly think that he was just another random demon, but ur redesign would make me acctually nervous to talk to him lol ^^

This works WAY more than Vivziepop's- I've never really been a huge fan of her designs honestly, a lot of them seem like they were ripped from a teenager's art book and made into a show- even some of the pilot writing choices seemed that way. I throw no shade to teenagers directly, believe me, I am a very passionate one, but the characters give the vibe as if they're stuck in that era of someone's art. The designs feel very meh to me, and I personally don't really like the proportions or how there are supposed to be reasons behind the designs that feel more like an excuse or something that can barely be noticed- I'm no perfect character designer, and my characters are of a very different genre, but I can easily identify what seems very 'wrong' to me- Alas, good job on the redesign!
Yeah all the HH cast were created around the 2000s so they still have that vibe about them and I have noticed through the yrs viv has created characters based around songs or just stuff she likes at the time not really working on why characters look or act the way they do and yeah her anatomy can be off putting since we've all be taught to incorporate body structure into our designs
I’m not that big into Hazbin Hotel but I did follow Vivziepop back during her Zoophobia days (Pre-Hazbin Hotel) to be familiar enough with Alastor and the rest of the HH gang’s original designs and concepts. Admittedly, I was a little off put by Alastor’s hairstyle in general because it didn’t fit with the time period he originally died in. Don’t get me wrong, I still like it a lot. But I was majorly disappointed with the redesigns because they just.. don’t fit.
Now going with your redesign, I love how you pointed out the accuracy when it comes to his haircut and his clothing. While yes, some might argue it’s fictional and that it didn’t have to be accurate and that the time period or era in HH is different from when the characters died from and how they can change their appearance to fit the modern and current time period; but like what Vivziepop said about Alastor loving his time period/era, he would definitely stay true to the style of his time period (clothes, hairstyle, mannerism, speech patterns, etc.) in which, his original character design lacks the most. Which therefore, also stays true to his character.
I definitely love how your redesign perfectly communicates him as a character and has a lot of influences from his time period (which again, he heavily loves and stays true to), definitely kind of a ‘Show don’t Tell’ kind of redesign :)
EDIT: I also absolutely love that you gave him skin-walker influences to go along with his wendigo vibe, along with the emphasised deer characteristics.

One of the biggest problems with redesigns is being animation friendly… if I see ANYONE, and I mean ANYONE say that this isn’t something Viv and her team could do I will be suing. The design is so, ✨MWA✨ and there aren’t too many small details. Not to mention the Addict music video animated each of Cherri’s tattoos just fine, I’m sure they could handle something like this
The horns in the original design are so subtle that I had never noticed them before. Woah. w-woah.
I really love your redesign. I think my biggest gripe always with Alastair’s official designs is that without context, I would never have read 1930s from him, which wouldn’t be a problem if it wasn’t a big part of his character. There is just design elements like the monocle and hair that just seem out of place to me. Your design just more clearly expressed the time period thing that is going on with the characters.
I saw the pilot a long time ago and...I never knew Allister was Creol or based on a deer. I discovered your channel today and I love the redesigns. They convey so much more information without being too busy or impractical. No disrespect to the creator or the team working on the show but I really wish they'd consider you're help lol I think you'd add a lot of value to the visuals with so much thought you add to design. I say this after watching this and Solas' family redesigns.

If I’m being honest I do prefer Alastor’s pilot episode design. What can I say? I liked his hair longer. I still think this looks cool though. The tail is a nice touch.

@@LovesArt23 I totally get the undercut thing, there’s this anime Assassination Classroom (high recommend if you haven’t) the main character Nagisa I always thought that he would look good with an undercut, so of course I made an edit of it and I was right. Undercuts are a lot of fun not just because they look good but speaking as someone who’s gotten an undercut their also just comfortable to have. Especially if you have thick hair, it removes a lot of the bulk.
I've probably re-watched this video's for an unhealthy amount of time. I'm just so in love with your design. I have to confess that whenever I thought of Alastor I thought of your design instead of the canon's one.
Holy cow, I never knew I needed Alastor with bigger antlers and HOOF SHOES in my life! And I love making his teeth and iris the same color. I think someone else already pointed it out, but that could work really well for a shot of him in the dark - or something of the sort - because the iris and teeth would stand out together. That sort of thing, and honestly this design in general, lends very well to him being intimidating.
I think the only thing k i n d a bugging me is that the bottom of his hair is tangenting with his jaw (and the top of his neck in the edit) and making them blend together into one mass, but to be honest, that’s a really minor gripe.
Ngl I always assumed Vivzie made Alastor creole because people kept criticizing her for using voodoo as “scary” symbols

FINALLY! Thank you for drawing Alastor with him being black in mind! Literally nobody ever includes that when they redesign him they always leave it out! Especially since we know him being black/African ancestry is really important to him since he mentions his culture’s food and even uses voodoo as his main specialty. I adore this redesign and can’t wait to see the others! Again thanks so much for including him being black that means a lot to me as a black person lol. ❤️

What year am I in? Lol😅 and the only time I see Alastor with darker skin is when he gets paired/shipped with someone's OC who is presumably white or has pale skin... hmmmm... maybe I'm reaching but like how come you drew Alastor to be black but didn't give him a black partner...??? Especially with the time period he's from. I mean, I understand that relationships probably weren't on Alastor's mind since he was a murderous cannibal but still... I don't know that's a whole different topic to get into...

yeah I've noticed viv has a lets say a hard time when it comes to period clothes a lot of ppl just pick whatever without really doing the research for the outfits they pick and it ends up hurting the design
I can see why she talks about the white shallowing alastor design, when I watched hazbin hotel I could only focus on his face for a few seconds, before going to his chest, and well I didn’t want to look at al,s chest each time he’s on screen, I also love how she talks about colors, body shape and lore which really helps me make my designs better and more realistic to my characters lore.

I really love the design in making it more deer like and as much as I like bow the tie adds to the cross more and the antlers are more intimidating including the eyes that also is close the the mouth so when it becomes dark both his eyes and smile will glow together perfectly

HI!! really big fan of the darkening of the face. i think the brown compliments the red a lot more than the greyish tone of his actual design. I also think narrative-wise it subconsciously makes his face seem warmer which compliments his suave, charming personality- or draw attention to his smile idk I'm not an English major. Either way love it!!

I wonder if all of the characters getting that, like, hot pink/brighter pinky-red tone, is to match one another? Because they are all supposed to be manning the hotel now? Because I assume we aren't going to get the introduction all over again when the show proper comes out. I'm curious if the reason everyone got that pink tone, is to match with Charlie? Which would make sense, but in a way, is also disappointing they all lose their individualism. At least in my own point of view!

I get vaggie matching since she actually works at the hotel but Alastor doesn't actually work at the hotel like hes basically aloud to live there and do whatever as long as he helps out so why they made him pink toned to match Charlie is weird to me and yeah character's should still have individualism even if they all work at the same place but so far every one shares alot of the same styles and colors vaggie was the only one who didn't blend in with the cast which was nice since shes not a very group type person
@@LovesArt23 I agree 100%. Alastor in the pinky tones is honestly a lot, and for me personally, it's a bit of an eyesore. Those blood reds you gave him really make him pop from the rest of the cast! Because our main cast for HH is primarily reds and red/pink tones. Even just the variety of the red/pink of Charlie's suit next to that richer blood red you did really makes it pop!
I’m pretty sure they added the white because a common complaint with the show is the over abundance of red so they added the white so Alastor wouldn’t blend in the background so much tho I do agree that the white is really distracting as I’m always looking at his chest i know this video is like a year old and I’m pretty late to the party but OMG I LOVE your Alastor design I can’t put into words how much I love it but yea it’s so fun watching you draw and talk at the same time keep up the great work

I love this version of Alastor I also love his brown-ish skin color he looks waaaay more cool im not saying the old version is bad its just that it makes sense for Al to have a dark skin color and dont mind me ima set this up as my wall paper sorry not sorry at all im a simp bye
I think this is better than the original design or even the redesign because c'mon, the first thing your eyes will look at is the white. It would have been better if it was still the same lol. Your design is honestly amazing and really well thought!

i went into this video sceptical bc i LOVE alastor's design but when you started pointing out the issues with his design and especially new design i got really invested and realized that i mostly agreed with you. your redesign definitely has many parts i wish were for real even tho i don't like it more over the pilot's, you definitely had made important points and improvements!

you nailed this design💗 side by side with your redesign i see alastors flaws more. he's too bright and the colors are messy. i love the muted tones you chose for him it's appealing to the eyes they should've hired you for these redesigns they're so good

You shared a lot of the same opinions as me! i felt like so many things didn't jive with his old design, it was a floodload of red and the "redesign", so-called, is just setting our expectations as what he was like in the pilot but with a white lapel.
loved how you focused less on the tumblr-bait feel to his current design but rather focus on the era and the personality/animal inspiration of the character. first off, i am proud to say that I have virtually nothing majorly bad to say about your redesign, he is stylish, gentlemanly, while at the same time still seeming like someone you don't want to approach. he seems more era-appropriate, the colors blend well and do not horridly burn your eyes or take away from his features. and FINALLY, no bowties!! I have noticed this before but too many characters have bowties, I dont have an issue with bowties but when it's overused, often at first glance it can be confusing, staring at a row of characters which look different but still all have bowties. Charlie, Angel, Alastor and Husk all come from different eras, there is much more potential of a character's living era and personality than to have them all wear bowties.
the only issue I do have with this redesign is taking away the monocles and adding glasses, I just dont think they work well with his demon design as opposed to his human design.
now, other than that, after gracing my eyes blissfully with your version, I wholeheartedly wish Alastor's "canon design" was different and something more akin to your design, as for now I am all but bracing myself for the burn of red colors thrown in my face when watching hazbin hotel when it comes out.
Gonna be totally honest, I clicked on this video expecting to not like it. Yeah, I love your character redesigns of all the miraculous ladybug characters, but everyone knew they needed it and wanted it.
But now whenever I’m going to look at his canon design I’m going to be disappointed with that. Your new redesign is amazing! Spectacular! Gorgeous!
He still has that whole Alastor Energy™️ with his deviousness and imposing stance and everything, but you can see the inspired and backstory features of his more.
You can see the Creole part of him. The deer features are much more obvious and fit in very nicely. The rib-cage part around his torso is great and I am in platonic love with the hair (I’ve always loved hair that had those front-waves of sorts). And the suit! Don’t get me started on the suit. Sure, at first the red-punk coloring was fine. I liked his character so much that I really didn’t care about it. But then the redesign came with the white and…oh boy. Point is, the darker red, burgundy/maroon shades fit him much better. The color scheme works more with his whole 1930s radio host demon vibes then the previous brightly colored red-pink shades and I think you should be hired as a character design artist for Helluva Boss/Hazbin Hotel.
(Course that probably won’t happen, but hey, a person can dream)

I really love this new design. While I love strawberry red the blood red was a great idea for Alastor’s character. I really like all the little dear details on his design and overall you did a fantastic job!

i've always been an alastor simp but seeing your redesign of him really makes me wish that somehow becomes the official design
I just found this now, as I am a new Hazbin Hotel fan. And let me just say, I would have loved to see this redesign in the show, not that I don’t love alastors original design, but I feel as though your design carries more of his personality. When I first watched the pilot and show which was only a couple of weeks ago, I had zero clue that he had any relation with deers, apart from him eating them and such.

FINALLY!!! You have no Idea, I've been waiting for this and your Is alot better compared to this so-called "Redesign". A friend I know wanted to make Alastor's redesign kinda like a mix between William Afton's Springtrap with King Dice's suit (Or Pinstripe) to match the "half demon half radio" persona or a regular cyborg-ex kind of deal.
top tier redesign for him omg-I never really cared for any of Alastor's official designs tbh, especially after learning about the tidbits we have of his personality and his past, so I was also super disappointed that his new design still mostly kept the same aspects I had a problem with in his previous look :| BUT YEAH your take is amazing!!
I like that you made the tie look like an upside down cross. It just gives off that lil "fck you" Al LOVES to do to people.

I appreciate that they gave him more color difference in the re-design. They did that with all the characters, and I think that Alastor looks better with more color tones rather than just like 7 different colors.
I won’t lie looking into your redesign in less than two minutes I already loved it he’s brown skin which is great because he’s from the south which is a New Orleans I always thought that he was African-American in his shirt is white which is a lot better because I get tired of seeing red and you made his hair burgundy😂❤❤ 5:15

Its kinda is becoming a miraculous ladybug thing the fans have made it that way along with how viv has handled constructive criticism (she takes things alittle to close to heart which we all kinda do but)
@@LovesArt23 viv’s designs are just so similar and she draws the same stuff on all her characters (the bow ties, the collars, random buttons etc.) I guess I’m just not a big fan of her style either :/

yeah the my first impression of her was she's amazingly talented with her designs and color theory but now I've kinda gotten over my over the top love for her as the yrs went by and I can see the problem areas more
I find your design wonderful! The only thing i would change are the rips in his suit, i think he would really care about how his suit looks so he would at least try to get it fixed himself
