Even if this was a stellar green light, I would be unlikely to watch the show, but I’ll watch most Chato vids just because I like the insight into the business?
Great insights Chato! It does sound like this would be an easy green light, though I'm right there with you with concerns about its sustainability. There's the potential for a couple of good seasons followed by a third lackluster one and no further seasons unless something happens to put a new twist on the story. He becomes a rabbi, but is sent to a proving grounds synagogue as a test of his character and abilities under duress. Like, a synagogue in Mexico or something irrational. No, that sounds like the tolling of the doom bell, almost as bad as a story about him being recruited by Mossad to be an intelligence asset and, surprise surprise, his wife has been an agent all along and now he'll be sent to be a rabbi in variety of different countries to set up information networks and God, no, that's so awful that I expect Amazon to leap on that idea and drop a few hundred million per season on it. The premise sounds more like a movie premise than a show premise due to the lack of legs. But it'll be interesting to check on the news and see how long it lasted.
Given Netflix's penchant for cancelling even popular shows after two years, perhaps that's what the show-runners are expecting/planning for? Streaming is a new beast vs old-school TV. I think Paul might need to slightly update what "having legs" means these days...
@@TheJohn8765 Good points. I don't watch TV or streaming and haven't for much of the last decade so I don't know much about how long shows run on streaming, except that some that would have been mid season cancellations when I was younger are now given/promised five years to be awful (STD for the first example and RoP for the second). And in Paul's case, he specifically says that he's basing his green light decision on the factors that he used when he was in the industry, and honestly all these factors should still be a consideration now, but for the modern entertainment morons they aren't. Which is why so many streaming services hemorrhage money on awful ideas for no return on investment. Which is a large part of why I don't watch anymore and invest in physical media of good shows instead.
You are right about that title. By the end of this video, I had already forgotten it. Everything else sounds good, though! That’s refreshing. And it’s not unheard of for sitcoms to switch titles early in a run. I believe Seinfeld debuted as The Seinfeld Chronicles. We shall see.
Speaking of sitcoms, I've been hearing rumors of a Scrubs Revival and I wish they wouldn't. The spinoff 9th season was bad, with the culture of the 2020s the show would be terrible with too much political junk thrown in, probably.
I thought Dharma & Greg did this 'opposites attract' very well. She was a free spirited hippy and he was a straight laced lawer. They got married the day they met.
I saw this and it wasn't horrible. I even laughed a few times. I did recommend it to my sister. It's not a great show but it has moments. Thank you Paul. I hope you have a good weekend.

@@CallMeChato It's a sci fi horror show put out by MGM. The mystery and monster concept is absorbing, but it feels a little bit like Lost. You should check it out; I'd watch that review.
@@CallMeChato Give it a try. It has an excellent ensemble cast, but it might be off-putting for some because it's brutally violent and baffling at times.
I think the Frasier reboot is good. I also think it has a lot of possibilities. I personally think Niles and Daphne's son David needs twin sisters, named for their grandmothers, that are a handful. But that's me. I don't see why Judiasm isn't more mainstream. It's a lovely faith. It worked for Friday Night Dinner. Amy Sherman Paladino feel!!! YES!!!
Watched the first three episodes last night with my wife. So far enjoyable enough, it's light hearted & witty. I like Kristen Bell and she's good in this. It's not a traditional sit com, it is more of a rom com. From what I've seen so far not surprised that it's been renewed for a second season.
nice to see a positive review Chato! I don't know if this is my cup of tea. But it's interesting how you broke it down. As to the does it have legs question, I think it comes down to conversion. Will one or both! characters convert to the other's religion? How will the question of "what religion will we teach the kids?" be resolved? Also what about Jewishness being well... maternal inheritance? Will the budding Rabbi continue to be a learning boy? What's the girl going to do when the future Rabi puts up scrolls on doorways? Will he go ultra orthodox and have to wear the hat? curls? Will she renew her non- Judaism faith? Will she ask indelicate questions about Jewish faith and practices? How will the ham sandwich question be resolved? Will their kitchen be cleared as kosher? who will be the Rabbi inspecting? What about women in faith leadership roles? (oh my!) This actually has a lot of legs... if the writers are a little bit Theological and super brave.
This rabbi is not in a Hassidic synagogue so other than learning some Hebrew chants for Sunday there is not a big shock coming... Now it'd be 2x more fun if he was Hassidic.... Or if he was Amish ...... As it is the only thing in their way is his familys racism . ...
When I saw the thumbnail, I thought "Nobody Wants This" was the title of your video and the "YES or No" was entreating us to decide whether we agree with you or not and I couldn't wait to hear about this latest train wreck 😂 That's the title of the show?? Seems counterintuitive.
We’re about 3 episodes in and, I don’t know if I was just tired or… I found it hard work to be around these characters. There’s a constant sense of psychosis. Maybe it’s just because I live in the middle of nowhere in Scotland, and this is set in the most psychotic city in the world 😂 But despite the smart writing, a good drip feed of genuine laughs, I realised that I had adopted that fake, polite face of someone visiting the relatives that, yes, I ‘care’ about, but I can care about them from a distance without any actual contact, thank you.
In your list of sitcoms from the past I am grateful you never mentioned The Big Bang Theory as that show repulsed me from the first ten minutes of the first episode. I have often used it as an example of the collapse on the entertainment industry, in fact. But this sounds like if there is nothing better on, give it a go.
My main concern with a romantic comedy sitcom where the couple meets in the pilot episode is whether it intends to stretch out the "will they won't they" over multiple seasons. I honestly can't think of a sitcom where a continuous return to equilibrium, as you describe it, worked. Most of the successful romantic sitcoms have the couple starting out married or married within a few episodes.
The only one I can think of is Leela and Fry from Futurama, but that was also a minor side note for most of the seasons with an episode addressing it here and there spaced between comedic sci fi shenanigans
Can't imagine Catholic/Jew as a point of tension but then again I loved Dharma and Greg. Minus several hundred for being yet another program on planet LA though, it's too alien for me.
One thing streaming can attempt that regular sitcoms couldn't, is evolving seamlessly. Season 1 can look totally different some season 2 if done properly. Will audiences like that? Well, probably not entirely as many time on cable it could signal the downfall of a show (Golden Palace comes to mind but much of that was a lack of Bea Arthur not even being present in the first episode) but I think audiences are better than that. Should their relationship strengthen and the characters are well received by the audience I feel it CAN be done and if the perils of the show shift along with the season (that's your reset point, each season would reset them to the point of that season without losing character revelations) I think it's doable. For this, I look to Burn Notice. Not a sitcom, I know. But it has the same basic principles of television and they would consistently rotate out of Miami and back but it always left our cast back in Miami through some sort of hook.
I think that I really do hate to make everything political, but as it is an extremely tame subject to be the conflicting situation of the comedy in 2024, it becomes an oddly topical subject in the current global drama.
... Brody said the ugly truth that Jews are focusing on repopulating after awful century, yet he's a 40 year old man considering a 40 year old shiksa who in divorce would get the 1 or 2 kids she might agree to have .... They should have cast 2 actors age 24, not 44.... I'm no expert but no jew would not marry by 25, is he secretly gay or bi, that would make this show 3x more interesting ...... Or am I confusing Jews with Mormons, ha
Based on the title, I thought you were going to announce that Netflix had picked up the rights to The Acolyte and was making another season. Imagine my relief!
I checked out at the 5 minute mark. Lost interest in your video Chato. Then I began scrolling for a cat video. All repeats. Still better then what's on TV these days.
After watching you for years, I just assumed your sign off was a nod to #6, but maybe I’m wrong. With your insight on dealing with difficult actors and series with mystery-boxes, maybe you should do a video on The Prisoner. I’m off to go look at your old videos to see if you did. Be seeing you.
Bell is one of the most likeable women in entertainment. I don't subscribe to Netflix, so I have no access to the show. But I hope it's good, and that it succeeds.
Having to learn basic Hebrew to marry makes dating a jew a huge step. It not like dating a Baptist or Catholic... Hebrew gives people headaches learning that are awful. I expect they'll skip that part.. I wonder if marrying a Muslim is similar, gotta spend 5 years learning basic Arabic..... So dating a jew or Muslim is a bad hard crazy idea when a nice Baptist avoids all the work ....... In 1800s to marry a Jewish woman you'd have to get circumsized as adult, now THAT would be fun discussion and stress...
I didn't know this existed. I never watched a bad Kristen Bell comedy. I know she's not the writer, but it also can't be a coincidence, right? her comedic talent and possibly good eye for accepting jobs with good writing have to be involved somehow.
I'll take a sitcom like Mad About You over this show every time. Bell and Brody had no on-screen chemistry for me. They have more spark on their press junket than they do on in the series
I'd take points off for the title. "Nobody Wants This" sounds more like "Nobody Watch This", it leaves a negative impression with me before I even start the show.
Well, if you put Carrie Bradshaw in the cocktail blender with Lena Dunham, add a pint of vodka and some kiwi fruit, and then insisted the world wasn’t the way it is now, you might convince yourself that it was 2014 while watching this….
I want you to do a Green Light: Yes or No of an anime comedy series, GTO Great Teacher Onizuka. It's on netflix. It's pretty much a sitcom by format, there have been versions of it with real actors already in Asia. Also, under current political climate they would probably cancel it because the protagonist is a sex obsessed weirdo. You would love it!!!
Watched it all - it was good, not great and agree it will be a stretch to push the premise beyond a second season unless something extra dramatic develops in season 2.
I've tried to watch this show. I watched 3-4 episodes and then I gave up. It was a cheesy rom-com. I hated the characters. They are whiny and unrealistic.
Yeah with all due respect Mr. Chato, you and I will have to agree to disagree on 'The Good Place' sir. I thought it was trash. As for this one? I enjoyed the culture collide in 'Fools Rushed In' with Matthew Perry and Salma Hayek. Even with your green light, unless it becomes available on a platform that I have access to already. I will not be spending money to watch it. Thanks for the review!
Great review; however, much it might fit a television show's criteria, I reject the premise. A person committed not just to their religious beliefs, but wanting to be a minister/rabbi/officiant in that religion, would know, right from the start that a "mixed' relationship with a person not sharing that faith is simply impossible - the "minister" would have no credibility because he places his own feelings above the requirements of his faith - therefore invalidating his desire to be a teacher of others in the first place. One would imagine this would be even more true in a Jewish cultural setting, where "mixed" marriages are already looked at skeptically by the devout. However, put in a couple of car chases, some automatic weapons and a cyborg or two and I might watch it... ;-)
I'm so sick of RUclipsrs screaming at Disney. This was so, very refreshing. Thank you!

Nice to see you so enthusiastic about a modern show.
Thank you for your insight, sir. Always appreciated!
I like your informed approach to TV. You're articulating what I often feel about something but can't adequately express. Thanks!
You are right about that title. By the end of this video, I had already forgotten it. Everything else sounds good, though! That’s refreshing. And it’s not unheard of for sitcoms to switch titles early in a run. I believe Seinfeld debuted as The Seinfeld Chronicles. We shall see.
I loved the show, such a nice surprise! I haven't seen a comedy this good in a long time.
True. Good show.
I guess whoever named this show was quite prescient.
I didn't even know the foster sisters did tv. I thought they were just socialites. The OC first 6eps was iconic and Meta.. I'll check this one out
I saw this and it wasn't horrible. I even laughed a few times. I did recommend it to my sister. It's not a great show but it has moments. Thank you Paul. I hope you have a good weekend.
You've convinced me to watch it, thank you :)
Had not heard of this. I love Kristen Bell (as an actress; as a condescending but utterly ignorant Hollywood know-nothing she is insufferable). I will check this out because of your recommendation. Thank you!
Another show telling women they will get married in their 40s. That's the demographic for it as well.
Interesting thx
How about taking a look at From? It's weird as hell, a puzzle that doesn't provide any clues, but oddly absorbing.
I might 😉👍
Never heard of it.
YES!!!
You just get how to make good content!
I was zoning out.
Does not seem, that I am the intended demographic.
Watched the first three episodes last night with my wife. So far enjoyable enough, it's light hearted & witty. I like Kristen Bell and she's good in this. It's not a traditional sit com, it is more of a rom com. From what I've seen so far not surprised that it's been renewed for a second season.
As my disclaimer indicates. Green light or not is not always about quality, only survivability .
I thought the show was “Green Light” and your review was “Nobody wants this!”😊
Wasn’t going to give this a chance….. but good writing!?….. you got me. I’ll have a go at it, something I can watch with the wife….
Yes a great couples show.
nice to see a positive review Chato!
It would be hillarious if they named every Disney "Show Nobody wants this."🤣
Thanks!
Howdy Robin.
@@CallMeChato Paul what do you think about the new Penguin show on Max?
Bing back Maude and Bunker, that will satisfy both sides of the coin.
Yes the fake LA thing is tiresome
@@BertoxolusThePuzzled As you say, it wasn't the main focus of the show. The same with Kif and Amy.
Moonlighting, sexy looks for 2 seasons, no consummation...... Remington Steele...... Bones ....
Very confusing titles. I initially thought this was a show called "Green Light" that you thought "Nobody wants this".
Fixed. You’re right.
Watched the final two episodes last night with the Mirs. We enjoyed the H out of this series. Everyone is hilarious. Sasha steals every scene.
I think that I really do hate to make everything political, but as it is an extremely tame subject to be the conflicting situation of the comedy in 2024, it becomes an oddly topical subject in the current global drama.
I was thinking the same thing.
This is a fantastic show. It sucked me in very quickly, the writing is very good and the casting is perfect.
If one of them turns out to be an alien 👽 I’m in 👍
: )
I checked out at the 5 minute mark. Lost interest in your video Chato. Then I began scrolling for a cat video. All repeats. Still better then what's on TV these days.
Yay, Saitama!
Genos has joined the chat!
From the brilliant minds that brought you Cuties, Dear White People, Cleopatra, and a ton of other 💩 you didn’t watch…
I've been contemplating a Prisoner show for years. One day.
The Prisoner was the most unmutual show ever, and I loved it.
Bell is one of the most likeable women in entertainment. I don't subscribe to Netflix, so I have no access to the show. But I hope it's good, and that it succeeds.
“It’s 2024, who cares”
Exactly. I don’t. Nobody wants this.
@@amyself6678 that’s not a plot line for an entire show. It’s one joke, maybe.
"Nobody Wants This" ... oh, the irony XD
I didn't know this existed. I never watched a bad Kristen Bell comedy. I know she's not the writer, but it also can't be a coincidence, right? her comedic talent and possibly good eye for accepting jobs with good writing have to be involved somehow.
Does a non-offensive comedy equal a non-com? I'll see myself out....
I think they have those in the army, and they have no senses of humour either, lol
Pass!
I think "Modern Family" was probably the last good sitcom. A bit TOO farcical at times, but it was well done and FUNNY.
I don't want anything from Netflix since Cuties; at least the name is on point.
Paul, starting at about 04:13 in this video:
*_"But Jews and Judaism continues to be a mystery to many people..."_*
*_Oy Vey._* 😉
To be fair, so are catholics .
Romance dramas aint my cup of tea anyways 🤧
I'll take a sitcom like Mad About You over this show every time. Bell and Brody had no on-screen chemistry for me. They have more spark on their press junket than they do on in the series
My wife disagrees. 😅
@@CallMeChato Adam Brody has been attracting women for over 2 decades, so I am sure a lot of women have a grasp of his appeal more than I do.🤐
Do this for Lara Croft too. It will be entertaining.
Hmmm interesting
I'd take points off for the title. "Nobody Wants This" sounds more like "Nobody Watch This", it leaves a negative impression with me before I even start the show.
Paul Wants This
Well, if you put Carrie Bradshaw in the cocktail blender with Lena Dunham, add a pint of vodka and some kiwi fruit, and then insisted the world wasn’t the way it is now, you might convince yourself that it was 2014 while watching this….
How old is it?
@@CallMeChato 1998
Watched it all - it was good, not great and agree it will be a stretch to push the premise beyond a second season unless something extra dramatic develops in season 2.
Hello, Dennis.
I like Kristen Bell but in this show I can't understand why any man would want to be with her character.
Have you seen the new HBO show Franchise yet? I haven't watched it yet myself due to time constraints but i am curious.
It's the one channel I don't get. It looks dumb, though.
❤ The Good Place
4:30 - Especially Hungarian Jews - after all, y'all did invent the atomic bomb - downright mysterious...
My mother was mysterious for sure.
Boy meet shiksa? That's all I need to know -- the show is distorted.
You should watch Gyeongseong Monster, instead.
However, put in a couple of car chases, some automatic weapons and a cyborg or two and I might watch it... ;-)
