Thank you for recognizing. Earning this honor as a high soprano is beyond demanding, 2 years was enough, fear, talent, determination, etc, glad I have this in my wheelhouse, on top of earning my black belt in Judo at 14 years old, nominated for the Olympics at 15 years old, sensei over 40 men, 10 years, now I direct a cancer lab for research, working on blood research now, did more before that, my first job at just 16 years old was a GS13 for the federal government for 15 engineers and physicists, I can go on, but I still do command, always have, honors have a way to follow you, I love the respect I earned, but it never fills my heart, am alone because people don't get me, being intelligent is not understood
I heard her do this accompanied by piano in her farewell tour. I remember after she had finished there was a moment of silence. I think we were all thinking the same thing. Simply brilliant.
Elysian fields near Belvedere and Duomo of Florence ....EM Forster Room with A View comnined with Puccini la Rondine ...and Kiri ti Kanawa...Perfection
Being able to see and hear Dame Kiri Te Kanawa live was one of the memorable moments in life. The emotional upwelling is beyond words. She is one of the greatest singers to ever grace this earth. Thank you Puccini and thank you Ms. Kanawa, you have brought joy and happiness into my life.
I am here because I heard it on Sopranos.. What gorgeous music. It was so perfect for the scene of reconciliation. Love it,, and I'm not a student of opera at all.
O Mio Babbino Caro by Kiri TeKawana during the opening credits of A Room With A View is her most beautiful song to me, but this ain't bad either!! Especially because it takes place in the Florence barley field where George Emerson kisses Lucy Honeychurch -- WOW THAT'S A KISS!!
such an expressive face!!! accompanying that GORGEOUS VOICE.... the way my heart feels right now, and I'm not even an opera buff, she "must be" singing Puccini :-) :-) WOW, thank you Kiri. Kathy
You got me. I'm truly thankful for The Sopranos as it has given me a great deal of insight into many different genres of music. Respect to the writer, the musicians, and the voice behind this wonderful rendition.
oh my gosh so lovely!!!! HOW DOES SHE DO THAT SO EFFORTLESSLY. her voice is so floaty and sweet ahgh. i wish she had ended it a bit differently? it's supposed to trail off with "amar cosi..." because that's what puccini does, but i guess she wanted a big finish. SO BEAUTIFUL.
Actually, having heard Fleming, Price, Gheorghiu AND Caballé, IMHO this one wins the prize. I was taken by Arteta's version from Washington Opera as well. Two very great artists letting the composer tell a magical story.
@@woodywilnorth I just listened to Leontyne Price singing this (2 different versions). She has a phenomenal vocal ability but I prefer Dame Kiri's delivery. Perhaps it is because I'm used to her version. Leontyne's seemed a little hurried.
Kiri is the only person to record this live so far as I know. Not just a great singer but also gutsy! Listen to all these high notes - LIVE. This is why I adore her!
i love everytime i hear you wahine, the choicest of all voices i have ever heard, you are from another world and i don't even know what you are singing about....
These are very challenging conditions for a singer: open air, and a breeze blowing. Yet Kiri nails this aria (almost )perfectly. I wish I'd been there to give her a rapturous applause.
How beautiful!.. Yes she is very focused but it all comes out effortlesly elegant.. I also love her posture on this video and the caressing wind that softly brushes her hair. It really goes with the aria..
I have heard Angela Georghiou sing this aria live at Covent Garden but this rendition is just beautiful - Kiri's high notes absolutely spot on. I remember Kiri was the first soprano opera singer I came across and I have always liked her voice and her singing though she has never been regarded as the best Opera soprano. She also shows much expression and depth of feeling when she sings, which I like.
Fantastic. You were very lucky to attend that occasion. I was in England and New Zealand too in the 1960s. In those days, it was all Leontyne Price. Victoria de Los Angeles was there also, and Elisabeth Schwarzkopf was still a star, but more of the 50s. I think that Kiri also mentioned she was influenced by Deanna Durbin too - but that was on another occasion.
She sang there about 125 times and will sing a role there in February 2010. It is a speaking role, but they say she will sing it. 2/9/74 was her debut.

@GEF69 I was wondering if I was the only one who likes Montserrat Caballe's version best. I am no fan of hers but no one did this song better. Kiri was great and others are good too, but there can only be one who is (or was) the best.
@dawg00000 Dame Kiri Te Kananwa is a singer of colour, and much loved and respected throughout the world, not just the opera world. Her later professional life has been devoted to putting back into music for young artists.
No .. I love white singers too.. for Instance, Leontyne adored Maria Callas, as do I.. and she was a Greek. Price has even now a glorious voice ( always did and got to the top of her profession because she was TALENTED and deserving) and may she live to be 1000.. she is also a patriot. she loves her country.. Admirable woman.. I love her in so many ways.
I love Kiri. Just to let you all know she will be 80 in March!!! I still love her
Her voice is so crystal, clear, and exquisite i swear

Yes!
Just watched A Room With A View this evening.
Vain to deny it.
Best. Movie. Ever!
No visible effort whatsoever. She’s a singing lesson in action. Perfect! 💕
So at ease without signs of stress in her voice, that's signs of a true great singer
I heard her do this accompanied by piano in her farewell tour. I remember after she had finished there was a moment of silence. I think we were all thinking the same thing. Simply brilliant.
Pure head voice. She knew how to sing and we are so lucky for it. Just beautiful!!!!!
"A Room With a View" led me here...breathtakingly! It's so beautiful that it makes me teary!
Also RWAV and same reaction
Incredibly gorgeous. What a magnificent and glorious voice. As much as I like Flemming, Nebrebko, etc., I feel no one can surpass Dame Kiri. The best!
This is just to die for. What a voice and technique! And she is such a beautiful and charming lady. Perfection.
When I hear this aria I always remember how George swoops Miss Honeychurch with one arm to steal a kiss! So beautiful!
Nothing quite like stealing a kiss... (Preferably a long one...! 😉)
In that tall Italian grass...
Absolut, geht mir genau so.....der Kuss im Weizenfeld....
fields of barley & poppies
Elysian fields near Belvedere and Duomo of Florence ....EM Forster Room with A View comnined with Puccini la Rondine ...and Kiri ti Kanawa...Perfection
I think she is one of the greatest. Idk who my favorite soprano is, but she is one of them of course.
I do not know why I always start crying when listening to such beautiful pieces...
WIWWM?
Myself also. 👍🏻♥️
Because you are a sensitive kind person
OMG!!! Almost too beautiful 2 bear. Love it!!!
Agree!
She had one of the best techniques of all, with beauty (both physical and vocal) - she’s a gem!! I named my cat after her!
She's an angel of voice.
And to the life of many others she it’s just brilliant..❤
yes. you must hear Price. the beauty of tone and effortless top notes. She is a national treasure.
Can't believe my ears. This is perfect.
I am here because I heard it on Sopranos.. What gorgeous music. It was so perfect for the scene of reconciliation. Love it,, and I'm not a student of opera at all.
stunningly beautiful and so effortlessly sung.
That's why i'm here. Magical!
If my husband kissed me like that just one time in our nearly 30 years i would have worshipped at his feet.
why oh why have I wasted so many years not listening to kiri.
My first time too, she is Wow
such an expressive face!!! accompanying that GORGEOUS VOICE.... the way my heart feels right now, and I'm not even an opera buff, she "must be" singing Puccini :-) :-) WOW, thank you Kiri. Kathy
what a beautiful beautiful voice. One of my favourite arias. Wish I had been there.
You got me. I'm truly thankful for The Sopranos as it has given me a great deal of insight into many different genres of music. Respect to the writer, the musicians, and the voice behind this wonderful rendition.
I walked up the aisle to this song!
Also beautiful in A Room with a View, magnificent film.
For this aria her lightly high register is beautiful! I also love Anna Moffo’s diamond-like voice on this aria for the same reason.
She is the one that sings the version in A Room With a View.
Such a brilliant performance!
oh my gosh so lovely!!!!
Holy smokes! Beautifully sung, really masterful and full of depth and lovely phrasing.
This is almost more than my heart can take! Most incredible version ever heard. I was week!
I hope she is as kind as she seems in this video. She is my opera idol! I cannot stop listening and watching this video. Gorgeous and moving!
I fell in love with this song because of her. Soooo beutiful!
Me too.
Puccini and Dame Kiri, what more could you ask for? Sublime. Beautiful and colourful close-ups thankyou :)
Beautiful voice and beautiful Lady❤️
Stunning.
none better to be or have been than mz Kanawa the most cherished voice I have had the pleasure to listen to
Bravissimo Diva!
Actually, having heard Fleming, Price, Gheorghiu AND Caballé, IMHO this one wins the prize. I was taken by Arteta's version from Washington Opera as well. Two very great artists letting the composer tell a magical story.
For me is the best soprano singing this aria. Excellent.
I guess you haven't heard Leontyne Price!
Wesley Satterfield I agree with you. Price does it better than this.
@@woodywilnorth I just listened to Leontyne Price singing this (2 different versions). She has a phenomenal vocal ability but I prefer Dame Kiri's delivery. Perhaps it is because I'm used to her version. Leontyne's seemed a little hurried.
I think Kiri Te Kanawa did beter
Kiri is the only person to record this live so far as I know. Not just a great singer but also gutsy! Listen to all these high notes - LIVE. This is why I adore her!
Leontyne Price did. And I prefer her version.
Wow! This is so beautiful and so excellent. Thank you for sharing this!
That was an incredibly beautiful voice with lots of color and ease. Kiri singing Mozart is my favorite.
So relaxed and free.
How can ANYONE dislike this?
She is amazing! Even what some call imperfections make it more beautiful!!!! Lovelly. #loveher
Agreed
A beautiful song, effortlessly sung. I first heard it through Sarah Brightman's album, 'The Songs That Got Away'.
the best of the best right here. thank you!!!!!!!!!!!
Yes! What a splendid film. SO beautiful, indeed. And was Dame Kiri in the film, I believe. She's just perfect here.
i love everytime i hear you wahine, the choicest of all voices i have ever heard, you are from another world and i don't even know what you are singing about....
My God! She´s definitevely my favorite. She is incredible. God speaks through that wonderful voice.
I agree, and I think Nat King Cole's voice was a gift from God also.
beautiful aria ,I havent heard that opera for years i wish they would do it again.kiri is magic one of the few top singers in the world .
Perfection. ❤️
aaaahh, she sets the bar so high...
Not a huge Kiri fan but she is ravishing singing this. Kiri at her best.
These are very challenging conditions for a singer: open air, and a breeze blowing. Yet Kiri nails this aria (almost )perfectly. I wish I'd been there to give her a rapturous applause.
Sublime!
an angel voice
How beautiful!..
Yes she is very focused but it all comes out effortlesly elegant..
I also love her posture on this video and the caressing wind that softly brushes her hair. It really goes with the aria..
Oh my god, how beautiful!
Not comments , not words.
Mrs Kanawa so beautiful, so kind, so splendorous. Regia
Bravo
I love Kiri te kanawa. I've been looking for a video of this aria forever! Thank you so much for posting this. I am a huge fan of hers!
Elle ouvre à peine la bouche 😮 quelle puissance et quelle justesse ❤❤❤
So nice and perfekt ❤
Thank you 😊
God dang this is gorgeous....
Glorious! On par with Anna Moffo and Leontyne Price’s renditions!
Caballe as well
No. Leontyne Price is something else entirely. She has depth and power and that special something and her phrasing is sublime.
Kiri is always amazing.
I was going to work in Lewes, England, and I briefly saw Kiri at the train station...
Who the hell are the 30 know-nothings who gave this a thumbs-down??
More to be pitied than scorned.
It's because they would do it better :P
Margarida Hipólito you wish
Ruth Christian Mmmmmmm, you know that I was joking right?! Being satirical, more precisely?!
If you say so. Just not a subject I care to joke about.
Ruth Christian I think you are misunderstanding me, but whatever, I know what I meant!
Well dobne Kiri on being 80 years young!
There are many of us who do think she is the best.:)
Damn bros this aria always gets me lit af 🔥
makes me want to go to Florence!
Fantastic. You were very lucky to attend that occasion.

BRAVICIMO!!!!❤❤❤❤❤
She sang there about 125 times and will sing a role there in February 2010. It is a speaking role, but they say she will sing it.
2/9/74 was her debut.
Dame Kiri has always known what suits her particular voice!
beautiful!!!
I wish the video had included the applause!
Impresionante!
She conquers all reason.
Best version for this song.
Stunning...........
Last night at the New Zealand Embassy in DC I heard Kiri say her 1st inspiration as a young singer was Ms. Price and almost equally Renata Tebaldi.
Beste Version dieser Arie. Ich sehe immer den Film ....Zimmer mit Aussicht....vor mir, wo das Lied vorkam in dieser Version
Awesome...
INCREDIBLE. I agree with Paulotomaso...Kiri OWNS this!
Chi il bel sogno di Doretta
potè indovinar?
Il suo mister come mai
come mai fini
Ahimè! un giorno uno studente
in bocca la baciò
e fu quel bacio
rivelazione:
fu la passione!
Folle amore!
Folle ebbrezza!
Chi la sottil carezza
d'un bacio così ardente
mai ridir potrà?
Ah! mio sogno!
Ah! mia vita!
Che importa la ricchezza
se alfine è rifiorita
la felicità!
O sogno d'or
poter amar così!
The best!!
Perfection.
Pretty nice rendition, by a most pretty lady singer! 😘☺️
A barleyfield, poppies and a kiss!!
It is sung in that movie but recorded years before and chosen for it along with another.
@GEF69 I was wondering if I was the only one who likes Montserrat Caballe's version best. I am no fan of hers but no one did this song better. Kiri was great and others are good too, but there can only be one who is (or was) the best.
Amazing voice
Amazing!
