They did this because play testers weren't sure what their role in the scene was and awkwardly stood around waiting for the fight to start. They made the fight start right off the bat to not give players time to think about what they should do and just watch the spectacle.

In the beta, we were supposed to have a final fight against Combine troops, hunters, gunships and striders. In the retail version, we only got the striders fight.

They were the ones who could destroy Magnusson's Rocket, so we had to fight them before they could reach the rocket. I'm pretty sure that, in the Beta, the entire army sent to White Forest was the threat we would fight, so that would be called The White Forest Fight.
I prefer the trailer version of Judith's transmission scene. Eli's "we should never have let her go" is much better intoned, and there isn't a weird delay in the feed cut off after the Hunter strikes the camera like in the retail version.
In my opinion, the retail version of Eli's "we should never have let her go" is spoken with a mixture of anger that Judith put herself in danger and regret on Eli's part for not stopping her.

NO! I couldn't complete it for the life of me. I also couldn't get the fruitcake achievements for portal, and I didn't feel like finishing episode 2. I did that one achievement though, where you can only fire ONE bullet in episode 1. It was actually kind of easy, you just have to be patient. I don't recall Alex being able to die in episode one; I know she could die in regular Half Life 2, and that's where I started to despise those asshole combine soldiers with the red eyes that held shotguns. Luckily The Orange Box is backwards compatible with the Xbox One. That's it. NO other good things to say, sadly. For some reason my games always crash. I don't get it.
