  • ( www.TFLcar.com ) Chances are that you probably know a friend who at one point in their lives has owned a Volkswagen Jetta. And chances atre pretty good that owner might even be you or someone in your family. So when it came time for Volkswagen to update the the Jetta, the company used a tried and true American formula for success...male it bigger, better and cheaper.

@JeffreyAu2 If I'm a passenger in the car I want mp iPhone and iPod somewhere that I can get to it. BTW: Many car manufactures put the cable plug in the dashboard.

@vothry But what if you are not driving...like I wasn't? I guess that means that VW doesn't want to distract passengers from passengering as well.

i don't understand why people complain to much about this Jetta,i saw one today in white ,it's a sexy car, looks like an Audi A4,it's a great alternative to the way '' overrateded'' Civic and Corolla ,actually VW by ''downgrading'' is making the Jetta more competitive and a great alternative to the new car buyers.

I'm not sure why people complain about hard plastic interior. It's not like you'll be rubbing your face all over the dash. Who gives a shit as long as it's durable and looks good. My MK3 jetta is now 15 years old with the original interior and it still looks immaculate. But I do take very good care of my car.

at first i though this car was stupid and didnt match VW style. i am an avid VW fan and wasnt happy. I saw the car for the first time last week out on the streets and loved it. It is so nice and naturally caught a VW fan's eye. When i looked closer i saw it still retained all VW style with different accents toward an Audi. I love it and so does everyone i talk to who has driven one. I cant wait to drive one!....Im glad i get excited about cheap cars. my life would be more boring if i didnt... :)

To me....the car looks better esp as far as the front grill. I never liked the big chrome part that has been on the grills the past several years. I just wish the "diesel" was cheaper. I still have a 1996 Passat diesel and was one of my my favorite cars. Check out the price of a Gold diesel...it's crazy. $25,000.00 for that...makes no sense.

I bought a 2013 Jetta and was questioning why the designers placed the iPhone/iPod port in the G-Box. It was explained to me like this by my dealer. So much of what VW is trying to accomplish is focused in on safety. A larger B-pillar multistage airbag deployment EBC stability controls crash sensors. That allowing the driver to access his/her iPhone while driving would not follow the broad safety first standpoint VW is going forward with.

@esemrpoot Hi. This is Much bigger than Golf. And here in Europe, every Jetta has independent rear suspension. And every engines are turbocharged. 1.2,1.4,2.0 TSI Gasoline engines and 1.6,2.0 TDI diesel engines. It`s a good car.

So many cell phone related crashes in recent times have lead to VW making that choice. The Jetta I primarily marketed to teens / young adults so the demographic fits the decision. The Jetta features attractive body lines and options while maintaining an even more attractive opening price point. College kids and young adults just starting out can have a safe reliable vehicle for a very inexpensive payment. I say kudos for VW bringing German engineering to the masses !

First off the iPod is on the glove box because you should not be checking texts while driving. Secondly, get the TDI and save a fortune in gas. It has the mileage of a Prius without making you drive a shoebox. I like it. You can easily put 500 thousand on a diesel engine. If you rust proof the car at least annually, do your scheduled maintenance you will have cheap transportation for life. And you can laugh while everyone else wines about fuel prices. Furthermore the resale value of a diesel i

You have to see the car in person to appreiciate it.the headlights make it look quite different it looks like an audi.smart move volkswagen because americans love audis and put a premium that type of styling which add value.but i would say the body lines havent changed too much.this review said the interior was cheaper looking.i didnt notice any dfference other than the climate controI.this car was made to attract non volkswagen buyers.I reccomend the hardcore volkswagen buyer see it in person

This car has so much evidence of cost cutting...it's no wonder why the car's cheaper than before. How can the exterior design and interior quality be so subpar compared to competition, yet you call it "sophisticated"?that's just their way for saying cheap...definately gives corolla a run for it's cheapness

It sound's like a great car but I just wish that the exterior design was a little more stylish. I've got to admit I think the exterior looks kind of bland. Don't get me wrong. I like the way it looks but I personally like the previous generation's styling better but granted I do own a 2007 VW Jetta 2.5L (with the 5-speed manual) so I am a bit biased. Even still I would definitely consider buying one when I need a new car. These car's are great.

It's too bad the exterior styling looks like a Civic. I was also saddened when Subaru's Forester exterior styling basically copied Toyota's. Bummer. VW and Subaru had their own unique styling that set them apart. I like that more so than blending into the pack for "more widespread appeal." Oh well, at least the Golf stands out. Thanks for the review!

@kharrison1095 let me tell you about audi. we had a s6 in the shop which drove fine unless u stomped on it. then it would just fall on its face. they had to fly a audi guy in from germany with special computers. if we us cars did that i have 3 things to check.. air {take a breath} ok we have that, now check fuel and spark. i dont need to check ohms ratings between 2 modules because the drivers window wont go up or bring it in for service because my dsg trans is recalled.

The Sentra SE-R Spec V has a 4/cyl. 2.5l engine and the jetta has a 5/cyl. 2.5l engine.... but the Sentra´s engine its more powerfull (200hp) and more torque (180 lbs) than the Jetta´s engine.
I don´t understand why VW keep making so inefficient n/a engines.
The Sentra SE-R Spec V has more room, better sound system, better standard equipement, better brakes.... and both cars costs the same.

VW only sells the cheapest configurations in the US thus they have a image problem in the US more expencive VW wouldn't be bought.

VW has made a serious mistake with their thinking on the new Jetta, its cheap, and cheap where traditional VW owners will expect quality. The cheap interior with hard plastic finish, the ghetto armrest, the solid beam rear axel, the return to cable actuated climate control, drum brakes on the base model, hydraulic power steering, ghetto trunk hinge vs multilink etc. The new jetta screams cheap and its a shame for what was essentially an affordable german car.
