I love Jay’s melodic take on this solo. It’s wonderful when you can recognize the tune... sort of channels the very under rated work of Earl Bostc! It really helps to follow the transcription to understand what he is doing!

How good to hear you playing the baritone, Jay - this was a rare treat. Beautifully played and sounded wonderful. It was very interesting hearing the music and simultaneously reading the score. It helps enormously when trying to interpret what looks quite a complex piece of music, and I'll revisit this more. Love the tone, too, on the king of the saxophone. Thank you for it.
Jay , I read on a forum recently that there is a general feeling that JJ mouthpieces are only good with certain brands/cuts of reeds. Did you find this to be the case? I don’t believe that. If the mouthpiece is cut right and the reed isn’t warped or anything, it should come down to reed strength and player preference due to reed and mpc physical characteristics, NOT
“Hey JJ’s suck unless you use Rico Select” or some other craziness. Any comments? There should be more videos by professionals calling out myths and snake oil.
