    I have been spending an hour with Our Lord before the Tabernacle every Thursday meditating upon Gethsemani for a few years now. What I was inspired to understand is that Jesus wasn't weeping for Himself but for the sins humanity. It has nothing to do with His human personality as Jesus was fully human and fully divine. I don't think Jesus was afraid to die. He has no aversion to His death he fully and freely accepted it. But He knew the consequences of those who wouldn't.
    Imagine being saved but throwing it all away! After His Passion the world and the meaning of our life changed forever.
    What I am inspired to understand is that Jesus knew that even with all His sacrifices there would still be many of God's children will not accept Him and still others who do will neglect and wound His Sacred Heart.
    The Man of Sorrows wept in the garden of peace not for Himself but for you. That's love.

    I do not think it was only aversion to death that Jesus was feeling but also aversion to the horrible suffering He would have to go through in the process of dying.

      He knew what was coming and no one wants pain much less that kind of pain. He was preparing Himself for it almost like an athlete does before competing.
      Every time I’m in adoration I feel sad that His disciples couldn’t stay awake with Him.

      The Bosom of Abraham will be found in the Bosom of the Virgin Mary. The Immaculate Heart of Mary will Triumph. No other human can make the claim that Mary claimed. While Jesus was in Mary's Womb, the Heart of Christ was beating in unison with the Heart of Mary. ❤️

    33:30 - this discussion made me think of the old question: ‘Would you want to know the date, time, & method of your death’?
    Now, how about if you know this information, and the type of death you will face is extremely horrific, which is only after being horrendously lashed and made to carry the instrument of your own death..?…
    I believe that God the Father did let Jesus, in His human nature, know this- & that this weight was carried throughout His ministry (if not known much longer).

    It was in the garden that Jesus died, died to his will complete surrender to the will of the father. This is the lesson I get from it.
    Everything Jesus said and did is an example for us to follow. That's what I believe, I could be wrong.

    The sweating of blood to my understanding is, the realization of all the sins Jesus was about to die for.

    In Hebrews 5, 7-9 shows he is praying NOT to avoid death, but for his resurreccion
    Another detail is that when you are feeling bad to an extreme, like during illness, it impossible to not do anything to deal with that awful pain or ill feeling, I think Jesus even if you don't consider the passage in Hebrews, he would be just merely dealing with an overwhelming negative imput, to let it out somehow
    So much so that he transpired blood which is a real phenomenon

    Hebrews 5, 7-9
    7 In the days of his flesh, Jesus[a] offered up prayers and supplications, with loud cries and tears, to him who was able to save him from death, and he was heard because of his reverence. 8 Although he was a son, he learned obedience through what he suffered. 9 And being made perfect, he became the source of eternal salvation to all who obey him, 10 being designated by God a high priest after the order of Melchizedek.

      How well I remember the first time I got through to a radio talk show. I thought I knew what I wanted to ask, but I had to wait on hold with my radio volume down quite low. While waiting, I had to listen to the show through the phone handset, and could barely hear it. And then the neighbor started mowing his lawn. And then another neighbor started his mower. So when it got to my turn, I didn't hear them say my name and location, and by the time I did hear it, I was completely flustered. I don't think I even asked the question I was calling to get answered.

      The Inspiring Philosophy guy, on his channel, gives a pretty good breakdown of why Enoch isn't in the canon, based on the fact that it is not orthodox, but makes certain claims which do not comport with the teaching of the church. Though I read it (listened to it on RUclips) a long time ago, and on the surface much of it seems to align with general Christian thought. But even the Quran seems that way in passages where it talks about praising and honoring God, to the extent that it reflects a similar language of doxology to Christian practice.

    I think that another aspect of what Jesus is doing at Gethsemane is modeling the life of communion with God. As the archetype of the new Adam, he presents what God’s vision for humanity in communion with God was from the beginning. His behavior is in stark contrast with the apostles present with him. His perfect awareness of his fate has Jesus sweating blood and asking the Father for any way out if it’s possible (even though he knows there is none). Nevertheless he submits. The apostles, though, are so ignorant of his fate that they nod off. When they are faced with his betrayal, they flee. Nevertheless, God still calls them to sainthood. Filled with the Holy Spirit, they are strengthened and meet similar fates with faith.

    Hmm I had understood that the devil did indeed tempt Jesus to not go through with the crucifixion... and that what tormented Jesus the most in the Garden was being shown all the souls that would be lost.

  • @n.lindemann1144

    I recall hearing the idea that Jesus was suffering in the garden, at least in part, because he knew many would not accept his sacrifice and be saved. Any thoughts about this?

    • @mph1ish
      @mph1ish 27 дней назад

      Yes I've heard the same. That knowing all the souls who would not be saved tormented Him more than anything else.

    This "Divinely Inspired" concept in Catholicism may not translate well into English. Not to stereotype, but the Latin languages are from more "artistically-oriented" cultures, and the Germanic languages are from more "scientifically-oriented" cultures. So I think something weird with language is going on where the Roman Catholic Church gave the Bible an "artsy" title like "Word of God" and the science-minded Germanic people took it in a more literal sense (as if it were handwritten by God and fell from the sky, to exaggerate a bit), so that Sola Scriptura more naturally took hold among Germanic countries

    Isn't it possible that John the son of Zebade and John the elder are the same person described at different points in his career?

    • @RealSeanithan
      @RealSeanithan 28 дней назад +1

      I personally believe they are the same John. You have John the Evangelist, John the Son of Zebedee, John the Elder, and John of Patmos; I believe these are all the same John, but I've seen claims made that there are as many as three (I've never seen anyone claim that each of the four is a different John), while one of the more common claims is that there are two: the Evangelist is the son of Zebedee, and John of Patmos is either the son of Zebedee or the Elder.

    At about 3:30: We are death averse, but we are much more painful death averse. I know I would have less anxiety if I was going to be beheaded, than if was to be tortured to death.
