Jinjer are a Ukrainian band who play Progressive Groove Metal. The start of their first North American tour was delayed several months by the start of the war in Ukraine, but they got here eventually, and I got to see them in November of 2022.
Other songs to look into include 'Perennial', 'Teacher, Teacher', 'Homeback', 'Wallflower', 'Judgement/Punishment', and 'Vortex'.

I will never get tired of watching peoples first introduction to Jinjer and Tatiana (Tati) specifically. She really is a little pocket rocket of a singer and performer. I remember another Aussie reaction channel saying that it felt like Tatiana 'factory reset her brain' with the chorus part of Pisces. Great reaction yourself Swifty

Tati is such a natural superstar. She sings like an angel, screams like a demon, she's stunning, she has a unique style and look with many iconic stage outfits, and she has a natural stage presence that is as good as anyone that has ever fronted a band before. You should do their live version of "Perennial" from Wacken 2019. She commands the stage. And it's a beautiful poem in it's own right, as well as a bad ass song.

I never cared for this type of metal... Jinjer changed that. My background, of all things, is an operatic and choral bass singer... I have over 30 years experience, and took away a lot from her vocal technique... I can now sing deeper notes than I ever could before. This technique can be used by anyone and in a multitude of ways. She is the best female at it, though, without a doubt.

I saw Jinjer live 3 weeks ago for my 3rd time. I aasure you that their live performances are amazing. The guys are all top level musicians who sound so tight and together. And Tatiana has amazing vocals. She has such an amazing stage presence and control of the crowd on the level of Bruce Dickinson. She has such a versatile and dynamic voice. But that is also why their headlining sets are still only about 75 minutes. She does not over exhaust her voice. It is a delicate instrument. Definitely check out some of their live performances on their channel. Audio quality for those official live videos is really good. You will be pleased to hear how versatile this band is.

The video that broke RUclips, because there probably wasn’t one person who didn’t feel 100% shocked when she unleashed her low growling voice. Especially after her sweet clean singing. And I think the band smartly arranged the song like that, to blow everyone away. It worked because their career blew up.

Tatiana is a Pisces. The song is about swimming upstream looking for light and love only to be caught and killed by handsome butchers. When the war in Ukraine started they all volunteered. They were told to continue touring and support the cause. Should have kept her. She could have won a few battles. Tatiana is a berserker. Floor with Nightwish is a Valkyrie. Maria with Heilung is a priestess/sorceress. Aurora is a serious/fun quirky forest fairy angel. BTW you’re pretty. 😊❤

🔥Welcome to Jinjer, Swifty! I just found your channel, saw your Jinjer reaction and subbed, great reaction - first reactions to this are so fun to see! I'm glad you mentioned how good the other three are too, since many reacting to this are too astonished by Tatiana to think of them! Thank you for bringing the fantastic genre twisting music of Jinjer to more people! I love their energy, how tight they are, how down to earth they are, the heaviness mixed with complexity and groove, beautiful singing and growling and especially Tatiana's lyrics!
The first time I heard Pisces in 2019, I hadn't liked any metal with growling and it took me a few listens to start liking it, but now Tatiana is my favorite vocalist and Jinjer my favorite band (Pisces has been my wake up alarm for a few years and I still love it more every time I hear it, snooze is a thing of the past).
TLDR: skip to the last paragraph 😂
Sorry for the long comment, I just love Jinjer too much and love seeing people discover (and usually fall in love with) them and each of their songs!
My three favorite comments about Jinjer that I've seen, "terrifying levels of talent", "I hate it when a Jinjer song ends", and "that was more unexpected than my first child" 🤣
All four current members of Jinjer have essentially no formal musical training except Vlad the drummer who studied classical piano. For most of their songs, the three guys write most of the instrument music, then Tatiana writes most of the lyrics and melodies (she gets tons of well deserved credit for her vocal and stage performance abilities, but maybe not quite enough for her lyrical and musical composition abilities). Roman the guitarist has written a lot of the instrument music in the past, so he's a huge part of the beautiful sound of Jinjer, but Vlad the drummer (who also plays guitar and classical piano, but so far not in most Jinjer songs - I think he played piano in lainnereP) has been writing more of it and wrote nine of the eleven songs for the latest album Wallflowers. Eugene composes some - he wrote the instrument music for one song on Wallflowers and a few songs on other albums, and I know that apart from his amazing work on the bass, he adds riffs and has written lyrics for a few Jinjer songs.
Jinjer has been a tour-heavy band, touring almost nonstop from 2013 to 2020 and much of the time since then (with interruptions by covid and the US backed coup/proxy war), hard work that has made them fantastic live performers. The band (all members have been Ukrainian, with Russian their first language) started in eastern Ukraine (Donetsk) in 2008 as a group of three (then five) with none of the current members (they consider the official start of the band when Tatiana replaced the male vocalist and Roman joined as lead guitar 2009/2010), Vlad is the fifth drummer (joined in 2016) and it's been a group of four since 2015 (though they consider their road sound engineer Sasha to be a fifth member). I think they're still friends with all the former members and you can see their former guitarist turned actor, Dmitry Oksen, in older videos on guitar and a more recent video (Disclosure) playing an interrogator.
One of the things I love most about Jinjer is the messages in Tatiana's lyrics and the way she combines growling and beautiful singing with Jinjer's fantastic instrumentals to be so powerful for expressing the anger and pain in those messages: the anti-war message in Home Back, the anti-greed in On The Top, Mediator and No Hoard Of Value (also the horror of the coal mining industry in their home Ukraine), the protest song Who Is Gonna Be The One, the anti-fascism of Sit Stay Roll Over, the anger at people being narrow minded in Teacher Teacher and Judgment & Punishment, the struggles with mental health in Pit Of Consciousness, Vortex, Wallflower and Perennial, the giving voice to mother nature angry at humanity for letting capitalism destroy her in a bunch of songs like Ape, The Prophecy, Cloud Factory, Noah, Outlander and Bad Water. Other favorites are I Speak Astronomy, Retrospection, Words of Wisdom, Just Another, Captain Clock, Scissors, Exposed As A Liar, I Want It I'll Get It, A Plus Or A Minus, Dip A Sail, When Two Empires Collide, lainnereP, Prologue and Beggar's Dance (those last two are short album bookends that could do well together in one reaction if you're so inclined).
I haven't found a Jinjer song I don't love, so I think you can't go wrong if you choose any of them, but a few good choices might be Perennial (official and/or live at Wacken 2019, both are must-see), Teacher Teacher (official is the studio audio with some great footage from several shows), Judgement & Punishment (official and/or Tatiana's one take performance, again both must-see), Pit of Consciousness (official and/or live in Kiev/Kyiv, a third where both are absolutely must-see) or the heartwrenching plea against war in Home Back (official video).
Thank you, Swifty! I hope you'll keep trying out more Jinjer songs and enjoy! ❤🖤🤘

Lol Jinjer is ukrainian proggy djent groove metal with complex time-signature maze, polyrhythms and multi-genre blending. They are one of the most talented 4-pieces ever. Tati is one of the best overall metal vocalists and lyricists in the business.

    Welcome to the Jinjer family!
Jinjer us a deep rabbit hole and a multi-faceted band. One of the best live bands I have seen.
    Traditional next steps:
If you want to focus again on Tati's vocals:
JINJER - Judgement & Punishment One Take Vocal Performance
If you want a true live performance
JINJER - Perennial (Live at Wacken Open Air 2019).
Jinjer can get darker, proggier and more brutal than Pisces or either of the above two videos I recommended and it's all usually very good.

Vlad, the drummer for Jinjer is a classically trained pianist who taught himself the drums and this video was originally made to show off his skills soon after he joined the band, especially the ghost notes (the very light tapping you referred to). If you like music that changes it up then can I suggest checking out a very fun band called Electric Callboy from Germany, who perform a style basically called 'Partycore', I reckon you'd really enjoy it. Many people start with the song "Hypa Hypa", released just after they changed one of their vocalists but their cover of "Every Time We Touch" by Cascada is also brilliant...

Absolutely the best song dichotomy of all time. Love this song to death. All of Jinjer's musicians are superb. The drummer (Vlad) is a classically trained pianist who picked up the drums. Roman is the master on guitar and Eugene is a monster on bass. Tatiana's clean vocals are a gem and her growls are legendary. They are pure Ukrainian gold. Please listen to Tati in a studio performing Jinjer's Judgement (& Punishment) one take vocal performance next. A recording of the band plays in the background while she sings the song. I think you will really enjoy it. Lovely reaction by the way. First time visiting your channel. Nice job!

This is the most exciting piece of music I have heard in years- and my favorite band is legendary French progsters Magma, not known for subtlety. And the irony here is that this was recorded not to showcase Tatiana, but their then new drummer Vlad Ulesevich! And Vlad kills it; listen to his ghost notes, which are all over the place. But Tati is a force of nature. She is a self-professed nerd and introvert, but she handles a crowd as well as anyone I have ever seen. I love how this song develops- you see this beautiful woman singing in a gorgeous voice, and it lulls you. And then all hell breaks loose and you do not see that same woman when she returns to the verse. Tati does her growl by using her false vocal folds, and she can switch on a dime- I know people will recommend many songs next, but for me, the best one to see next is Who Will Be the One. It is a live recording in front of a crowd, and Tati owns it- plus you see some spectacular bass playing by Eugene, and great drumming by Vlad as well as the odd chordings from Roman. Teacher Teacher is also a great song to view- and for the full effect, I recommend watching the full show from Wachen 2019, to see how fierce and ferocious this band is in concert. This is not really Tati's favorite song, and is a bit atypical for the band, not quite as heavy (!) as other main songs.

Hello, I so appreciate your reaction to Jinjer! I know it's a bit of a shock at first, but it's such an amazing band. The instrumentals are so tight, and Tatiana's voice has such range - you have yet to discover the complexity of both the instrumentals and lyrics, which will amaze you. Don't ignore the lyrics to any of the songs.
Tatiana has been in so many different bands with so many different genres of music style and vocal style. I was amazed to discover that she is self-taught - that is incredible! She has mastered her instrument and knows what she is doing; she knows how to do it.
I appreciate your authentic reaction; that's why I subscribed. I believe you're authentic; you're a bit laid-back, but I believe your responses to the videos are authentic, and that really matters to me.
You're on a journey that you've gotten yourself into. There is so much talent out there that you can't even begin to imagine - so many music genres that it's impossible to keep up. My advice is to stay open. I know you're not going to like everything; if you do, then I question your authenticity and honesty. But down the road for you, there will be very shocking moments. There will be times you'll be crying; frequency and sound will rush through your body with chills and goosebumps, and you won't be able to stop it. Certain music will trigger past experiences. You are on a journey of discovery, of the unknown. Pretty much all I can tell you is: buckle your seatbelt and get ready for the ride of your life!

The song is about being Ukrainian being thrown into war that is why the line Scale Armor Blaze.

The thing that makes Tatiana amazing is not just that she can do it, but she is doing it in a healthy way that does not blow out her vocal cords. I see many say other female growlers are better, but I do know that many that have done it for a decade and then their voices are shot. It is not easy and anyone that says, "They are just screaming" - you try it! Let me know how long you last.🤣
I do worry about her smoking - not sure if she quit but I do know she was/is a smoker. I know many great singers were smokers, some even throughout their lives (David Bowie springs to mind and c'mon - that's an iconic voice right there!) but I do hope she stops if she didn't already.

Love or hate heavy metal with/without vocal-fry, no one can deny the skill set/range this band brings to the party.
Their interplay is so tight and this song itself is, I think, their best resumé as a live session showcasing a thoughtful, melodic intro (almost like lounge-jazz/ Nina Simone) then switching it up to HEAVY progressive metal and including a bridge that highlights Tatiana's vocal repertoire.
The old saw about bands playing metal because they can't play anything else gets lobbed straight into the bin without touching the sides.

Jinjer is of course a Metal band (from Ukraine), but they don’t consider themselves one, and love experimenting with incorporating different genres. The emeralds are fish scales.
I believe this was filmed to let Vlad the drummer show his skills as he’d just joined the band. He’s a classically trained pianist, guitar player and drummer.
I think this will always be the best introduction for newbies to the band. It shows off the incredible talent of all the band members!
Remember she’s using her false folds to growl. NO VOCAL CHORDS INVOLVED. The only vocal effects are when Tatiana’s singing, not when she’s growling.

Tatania from Jinjer had that effect on me to.
Interesting but my Number 1 vocalist will always be Karen Carpenter. She was taken from us too soon, BUT there is now a chance to get something from a vocalist who is, in my opinion, 98% as good as Karen. She is a young trainee sound technician called Tori Holub and she is working with a High School music teacher called James Wilkis. You will be astonished and astounded by her voice and the production quality and her vocals are VERY CLOSE to Karen’s. Here is the link. ruclips.net/video/J95lfJqo9VY/видео.html

also when you said she growls deeper than most men, I think thats why we like her so much, its rather attractive.
also Courtney from spiritbox can get as deep if not deeper than her on some of her song. but rule of nines, circle with me, and jaded by spirit box are just beautiful.
CONSTANT by spiritbox, it made me cry my eyes out at 2 am in the morning. came outta nowhere to. im talking ugly crying, youll know why if you watch it. it turned a extremely painful moment most people will feel into this haunting expression of art that cut me to my soul

I assume that the drumming technique you're referring to is what's called a "rim click". It's actually a standard technique, though perhaps not often used in more mainstream music. Another somewhat related technique is when e.g. performing a fill, but instead of just hitting the snare and toms, you'd also use the rims. Thanks for checking out this remarkable band!

2:59 - False-folds. Another really good band to check out with a female vocalist who does this - Once Human. Eye of Chaos shows her rough with smooth and she's got a really slick sort of slatted-metallic thing going on with her high register or singing growls, Deadlock and Scarweaver both have a bit of that.

The 'tapping the side of the drum' as I think you called it is known as a 'rim shot or rim click' - hope that helps! I'm not a drummer by the way, a bass player ( know from my band days). I tend to be more locked away these days as a producer, although I still play. 👍
Anyway, thanks for the reaction, it's a brilliant song, and you're right, the musicians are very talented people. Incidentally, I used to love Mudvayne back in the day, hahaha! Cheers! Thumbs up given. Andy.

Here's another band for you to react to. Bloodywood. Indian folk metal. I suggest either Machi Bhasad or Aaj. There really isn't a bad song by them but those two are a perfect introduction to what they are about. Every song has a deeper meaning behind it and they share a bit extra after most all of their songs about that meaning and why they wrote it.

This vid was to showcase the new bassist and drummer so sadly Tatiana was lip syncing.
Aside from that- I watched an interview with her that was astounding! She receives the band music months in advance, procrastinates, then writes the lyrics (sometimes in the recording booth) in Cyrillic, translating to English just somehow still works musically.

Greetings lady! This is my first visit to your channel.. A little heads up for you, once the drummer switches over to rim shots business is about to pick UP! You'll see & hear in a moment. That love is Tatiana Shmayluk the 37 year old lead s vocalist. This band hails from Ukraine. She taught herself how to do this! Her energy on stage is endless! I finally figured out the band is good also. May I suggest you locate a live show and watch them! The video of them at Wacken in 2923 is darn good.....
Some call her the Queen of Scream! And now you know why. I am writing to you from the state of West Virginia. The mountain state! And yes I clicked both buttons already. Happy to!!!!!! Until the next time.......

I really enjoyed the kaleidoscope of facial expressions in he first 2 minutes... 😀
Yes. all of the musicians are top notch, the barely audible passages from the drummer (Vlad) are *really* enjoyable. It's easy to just smash
on your kit, but tickling it gently is a whole different thing...
And regarding low voice - You might want to have a look at the Apocalyptica cover (feat. Nina Hagen) of the Rammstein' song "Seemann" then...
Let's see if she goes down the rabbit hole and stumbles upon the other usual suspects :-) (Alex, Will,...)
