      Jim brought out the best in Clapton; he needed a drummer who drove him to heights he rarely scaled after the band ended. Don't forget Carl Radle, a trull underrated bass player. Together he and Jim were phenomenal, and it's not surprising Clapton described them as the finest rhythm section he ever played with in his autobiography-no small tribute considering the merits of Jack and Ginger.

    Greatest one album band ever. They were like a bolt of lightning. Layla is the best album of all time in my opinion. The Jam sessions around the album are awesome, and Clapton live was often stunning. This song, Let It Rain, etc - for people who think Clapton was overrated, just have listen to him at his peak. And Bobby Whitlocks vocals and organ, Jim Gordons monster drumming, and Carl Radle funking out on base. Overwhelming at times!

    • @jaykay6387
      @jaykay6387 10 дней назад +1

      @@jonathanjordan315 It's easy to think that, as his peak was so long ago now, and that peak was undoubtedly with the Dominoes. I think Eddie Van Halen and the legion of guitarists that he spawned kind of "swallowed up" the traditionalist, blues-based masters like Clapton, and to some degree has made them look "quaint" in some people's eyes.
      Clapton certainly wasn't "revolutionary" in anything he did, but he did it with flash and mastery, and he certainly elevated the Dominoes to heights that have rarely been scaled since. The Dominoes body of work (1 studio and 2 live albums) is without question one of the greatest rock and roll statements of all time.

    It's just a lost opportunity that Derek and the Dominoes couldn't last longer.
    I'm not blaming anyone in the band (despite documented drug addiction) but I do have a suspicion that Clapton's management convinced him that he could make more bank if he ditched the band, went solo, and then just paid sidemen wages to the musicians on stage with him. Eric could stand downstage center in his white suit and reap the benefits of being Eric Clapton - Guitar God
    Perhaps Jim Gordon could have gotten treatment for his problems...if management had paid attention, (which they didn't seem to...they blamed drugs)
    Eric, Carl, Jim, and Bobby had more to offer.

      Clapton was completely smacked out on heroin, from the moment D&D’s tour ended until 1974. He barely left the house during this period. I doubt he gave a moment’s concern to whether it was more lucrative to ditch his band and go solo

    Agreed with several comments regarding the insane drumming talent of JIm Gordon. Clapton, of course, was always playing creative new version of his solos in every live recording. I want to bring attention to Bobby Whitlock's keybords here. Its refrain is like the bedrock on which this song rests. Incredible musicians each one of them but really they were perfect as a band. Sad that they only made one album.

      恐らくですが、中間の8小節のコード進行の繰り返しソロで、不要と判断された部分を省く、もしくは起承転結がドラマチックな展開となるよう8小節単位で順番を変えて仕上げたのでは無いかと全く個人的に思っております
      根拠としてはクラプトンがフィル・コリンズと組んでいた頃、「ジャスト ライク ア プリズナー」という曲に関してフィル・コリンズがインタビューでクラプトンに好きなだけ弾かしてミックスの時に同様の作業でドラマチックなソロに仕上げた、と言っていましたことです
