I'd like to add one thing.
There's special beauty and charm in delicate, thin hair. Not everyone needs to have a full, thick head of hair. There's no need to necessarily try and do something about it. Thin hair is not a problem but your unique feature.

I'm currently going through a massive stress and shock induced shed and it has made me pay more attention to people's hair. I'm from a Nordic country, and we're not exactly known for our thick hair in general. I came to realise that my completely average (on a global scale) hair is actually quite thick here, and that even though A LOT of people here have what is considered 'thin' hair, it doesn't look particularly thin to me.

I disagree with the layers portion. Be mindful of how you wear your hair. If you are always going to have it curled or blown out, they might do the trick. But if you wear it straight, layers just make your already thin ends lose even more hair which they can't afford.
For that reason, I'd say a blunt cut, one length works the best. At least for me, thin and fine hair, mostly straight with light styling.

Layers definitely do NOT work for my pin straight, fine, thin hair. Hairstylists have been trying to convince me for years and every time I fell for it. What I was left with were really thin ends, hours of styling everyday and as a result breaking and thinning hair. If you have straight, thin hair and don't want to have to style it everyday to avoid looking like a starving dog, DO NOT GET LAYERS. They don't work on us!

@@trishaaloo5281 same for me. My hair is fine and thin because I have Hashimotos, it’s actually pretty long (almost to my nips) and my stylist keeps light layers in it for shaping; I get highlights to thicken up the hair and give it dimension, and when I curl it with beachy waves it looks amazing like I have twice as much hair. I don’t feel so bad about my hair anymore. The trick is to find a stylist who is experienced with cutting/styling fine hair. It’s an art that most of them aren’t good at.

Hi! I have been thinning for over 15 years and last year I came upon hair toppers! I’ve been wearing them ever since and it’s given me my confidence back. There isn’t a lot of knowledge out there about hair toppers so I decided to make a RUclips channel about them with Knowledge sharing and inspiration to help fellow hair friends out. If you make another thin hair vid it would be beneficial to spread the word for us follicle challenged ladies!! This is a better alternative to extensions for me, as extensions only give volume on the bottom but toppers give volume starting from the crown. Toppers are the step after extensions, but the step before wigs. A wig seemed very daunting to me so this was definitely an easier step to take! Thank you for taking the time to make this video and knowledge share! Love and light!

So I have a little thin hair story/advice. I used to have really thin hair and, like Brittney said, it would never grow past a certain length. I hated it. I used to do conditioning treatments, spent forever trying to style it certain ways to get it to look fuller, used extensions etc. Then, due to medical reasons, I had to quit my job. Since I was home all the time, I stopped blow drying and styling every day. Because I was no longer styling every day and using a ton of hairspray, I didn't need to wash my hair every day. After a while I started noticing that my hair was getting really thick and long. I'd never been able to grow it past the length of Brittney's hair in this video, but suddenly my hair was down to my chest. It was also thicker than ever. It was even thicker than when I'd used extensions! Now, a couple years later, my hair is so thick and long that its hard to deal with! I used to be able to blow dry my hair in less than 5 minutes. Now, on the rare occasion that I do use a blow dryer, it takes me around 20-30. It's wild.
I just wanted to share this in case anyone wants to try it. Just stop using heat for a while and you will see a difference.
Also, I want to add that I used to be a hair stylist, so even even i was styling my hair every day, i was using professional heat protectors, using low heat on my blow dryer and flat/curling irons, trimming my hair regularly etc. I was doing everything right but quitting all the heat still made a huge difference

Did you just scrunch it or wear it up or what? Was it healthy? I cut my hair into a bob, which I hate lol and want to grow it asap. I used to be a hairstylist too! Now I work from home but if I don't style my hair it looks crazy.

    • @enoughalready244
      @enoughalready244 5 лет назад +4

@@jasminemariedarling yes, I would throw some curling cream on it, let it air dry, and pin it in a cute messy bun usually. Or wear it in French braids. Or, if I need it to look nice and actually style it, I'd let it air dry like 90% and then blow dry on the lowest heat setting, using a round brush to get rid of the crazy wave and frizz. Stuff like that. Keep in mind too, that during this time I was still bleaching my hair and wearing bright colors in it. Changing the color every 4 months or so. So it's not like my hair was perfectly healthy. I used to think my hair was so thin and damaged from the constant coloring, and was shocked to realize it was just because of too much shampooing and heat styling

Over the years dealing with fine thin hair, it depends on the stylist. You need to find a stylist that’s experienced with cutting and styling thin fine hair. Right now my hair is almost to my nips, but I have an amazing stylist that does highlighting in it to thicken it up and for more dimension, a great cut with light layers for shaping, and when I curl my hair in beachy waves it looks like I have twice as much hair. Anyone else have thin, straight hair with a naturally coarse, dry texture? I agree about layers on thin hair, but I have an issue with my hair: my texture is somewhere in between straight and wavy (a hairstylist once told me that it's as if 2 out of 3 of my hairs are wavy and the rest are straight), so when I had layers in the past, the top layers became wavier and therefore shorter, and the hair underneath remained almost completely straight! This meant I had to flat iron the top layers very frequently, and the hair underneath was left looking straggly and thin compared to the shorter layers. I'm now growing my hair back without layers after a big chop last year. The trouble with my hair without layers is it's flat on top and bushy at the ends. Perhaps very long and subtle layers would help? I'm scared of messing it up again cos it's taken so long to grow long again

i have thin AND fine hair and it’s definitely not a look if i go too long. after six years it finally grew to between my bellybutton and nipples and i loved it, but my god it looked scraggly within 2 seconds. i could never wear it down for more than a few moments. like, i could take a selfie and show off the length but god forbid i left the house with it down lol. i’d brush it and fluff it and it’d look amazing but as soon as i started living my life, my thin ass ends would tangle and get all weird looking. i had to carry a brush with me so i could brush my ends out every few minutes. i ended up chopping it to a little above my nipples and it looked way thicker and healthier (even tho my original ends weren’t unhealthy at all!!)
thin hair is such a struggle lmao i mostly wear it up in a cut bun or a clip. i don’t ever try to use heat to curl/wave it bc it absolutely isn’t going to hold. i find my hair reacts better if i toss it up into a tight bun for a few hours. then when i let it down its wavy (for a while til it thins and straightens out again LMAO). also i HAVE!! to blow dry it after washing it. if i let it air dry oh my god i look like i have no hair and it becomes soo limp and lifeless. something about blow drying it with heat plumps it up a little and makes it look normal.
it used to torment me but i think it’s one of those “grass is greener on the other side” things. i’ve met people who wished their hair was as thin and fine as mine meanwhile i would kill to have their thickness and volume.

try the l'oreal volumetry shampoo and blow dry your hair with your head upside down. also i recommend the ouai wave spray. it will change how your hair looks. condition your ends but stay away from conditioners with silicone/dimethicone in it as it will massively weigh it down and over time it latches to the hair and makes it break and snap.
also, hate to burst your bubble, but no one wants to have thin hair. not a woman in the world wants that. that's like saying women want a cups, flabby waists, flat asses, boxy hips, brown eyes etc

What's your opinion on Nioxin shampoo/conditioner? I've recently gone to my doctor about my thinning hair (it's hormone related, sadly) and she said she has seen more/better results w/ patients who've used Nioxin vs Rogaine. I'm curious about a hairdressers opinion on this!

    • @ALT-vz3jn
      @ALT-vz3jn 3 года назад

Nioxin and Rogaine are two completely different products that deal with hair loss differently. Rogaine is studied and clinically proven to regrow hair; Nioxin hides their formula as ‘proprietary’ so we don’t really know what’s in it. I tried to research it but came up with nothing unfortunately. I did try the Nioxin shampoo but it made my scalp itchy. I use the Rogaine foam and it’s helped my hair a lot.

Not a hair person at all, but I totally understand your description of over-direction so don't stress over it!
I personally have ultra-fine hair... but up until my last cut, I always thought it was low density as well. My last hairstylist told me that I have lots of hair and it shocked me because I'm used to everyone saying it's super thin. All I know is that it's unmanageably whispy, unable to hold a hair tie or a curl and really starts looking awful when it starts dipping below shoulder length. I like the concept of layers, but I don't think I've ever gotten a really good cut because they always look awkward on my head (but then, I suck at styling - too much of a wash and go gal here).

I have very thin AND fine hair. Oh my word does it suck!!!! I have to use tinted dry shampoo every single day in order to cover my scalp well. The tinted dry shampoo definitely makes a difference. But, it almost takes me longer to do my hair due to said issues versus someone with thick hair.
Also, I almost feel like my hair follicles are clogged. Do you know of shampoos that are great at opening up or cleaning out those hair follicles???
Sorry if that is a stupid question. 🤷‍♀️

A little tip I'd like to share... I have fine textured hair, that is the thinnest right in the front middle of my hairline. I also have "parking lots" or M-shaped hairline, like a male's receding hairline sort of look. Not cute. I came across a couple Korean videos of women cutting baby hairs to bring their hairline down and cover the parking lots. I had never thought of such a wonderful thing! I tried it and it completely gave me newfound confidence for those days my hair needs to be up in a bun. For products, I really like the Shu Umera Fiber Lift gel!

Had fine hair but a lot of it all my life. Went thru a reaaaaaaly stressful time and lost majority of my hair due to TE. I gave my hair some time to try to come back and it didn’t come back with as much density. Tried tape ins and have never looked back. People don’t even know I wear them half the time. So tip #6 I definitely agree with. If you are insecure about how thin your hair is choose something for yourself that will make you feel more confident and just own it! Extensions, toppers, wigs whatever makes you feel your best ❤️

My hair is fine and thin and mine is hereditary. Some people who have fine and thin hair actually can pull off a pixie cut. Mine looks the best with a pixie or stack. But I use products and blow dry with a round brush to make it mine look thick. It actually looks thicker being that short. Another thing with the layers being cut in thin hair... YES! But you have to be careful when cutting thin hair because if you cut too many layers (especially on the sides of their head) it can make their hair look super stringy or sometimes it makes it look like 2 different haircuts. I love using “blow it up” by the sexy hair line.. also catwalk root boost is a really good one too. My favorite hairspray is tigi masterpiece bc it’s not too much of a firm hold but it definitely does the job. It also adds shine. Honestly the most important part of my routine is to ALWAYS blow dry it to style it and ALWAYS use a bigger sized round brush. It makes me look like I have double the amount of hair I actually have and my style lasts me a few days before it goes flat.

These tips are great, I was that girl when I was younger trying to grow my hair and it’s just not in the cards for me, unfortunately I have both fine and thin hair and it won’t grow much past my shoulders. Because of this even extensions are not an option for me, I remember when tape first came out, I paid 700 bucks to get them done and it literally broke my hair off at the scalp and they started falling out. This is when I gave up and accepted it wasn’t going to happen

I have fine/flat hair that is naturally straight, and discovered my hair just looks better around my shoulders (at most around where your hair length is.) Other wise when I grow it out long, it becomes this annoying flat mess and end up putting it up most of the time 🤷‍♀️. On top of that I have a longer face so you could imagine how a long matted flat hairstyle would look (ew). Now I just play with all the different types of bob haircuts that are out there. much much better!

It actually is true that some people’s hair can’t grow past a certain length 💇🏼‍♀️
It depends on your hairs natural growth cycle length- some people’s hair naturally has a shorter life span and will shed quicker/at shorter lengths , so the hair will struggle to get past that length
The technical term for hair follicles in a growth phase is “Anagen phase” and for most people it lasts 3-5 yrs so hair can get about 18-30 inch long, but finer strands and thin density hair can often have a shorter phase, hence they will struggle to get past a certain length 😬

hi Brittney, i went to Keven Murphy website and their quiz thing recommends Angel Wash line to me instead of Plumping. What's the difference? I can only get it to recc Plumping wash if I click other than fine hair. I have fine, low-density, frizzy, long wavy brown hair that's become thinner and wavier as I age. I do color it very gently to cover roots, only some of the ends still look lifted from bleach 1.3 yrs ago. Thanks!

If the layers show, then get a new stylist because the one you have doesn’t know how to cut fine hair. Call up salons and ask if they have a stylist who is experienced in fine hair. It changed everything for me.

Their common belief is that layers are strictly intended for lightening thick hair I guess and they say to me that my layers will be too thin and look awful. If overdone or done wrong, I see how that's possible- but what they don't take in consideration is that fine or thin hair with a straight cut will just be weight down and lay flat, whereas layers can be manipulated and volume can be created with a help of styling mousses, texturizers, hair spray etc.

I have the same texture as u do. I saw a video of u washing ur hair and it had me on edge...like noooo dont rub it...its gonna knot up. My hair was relaxed but I cut it and when it grew bk (it was a different texture) it started to matte. 😩😥

I'm not sure I agree with the "layers are your best friend" thing. I recently spoke to a hairdresser, and she said that obviously with thin hair you want the ends to be as thick as possible. And they are when they're cut straight. So why would you thin out your hair even more with layers?
