To all the haters... Dudes, i'm sorry to disappoint you but this is fiction, not reality. This movie is based on a Comic, and if anything loosely based on real history. This is why he looks like that...Rodrigo Santoro's performance is based on the Xerxes from the comics. He said he did a lot of research in history to supplement his work in acting, he never said his character is a truly representation of the real Xerxes. And he did a very decent performance in this film. It baffles me that people doesn't understand that to this day
@@prathamshukla1280 yeah the real xerxes was actually good looking and modest he was known as the lawgiver and believe it or not the avg persian was well to do than the greek counterpart their slaves were well treated as for 1 mill persians the poplulation of ancient persia is itself some 500k how can u amass 1 mill troops the exact figure was around 20000 to 40000 soldiers consisting of 10k immortals and the greeks having 7000 thebans and 300 spartans and some 1000 heliots or so the number was more of a 1:2 ratio or 1:3 not 1:10 or even 1:20 that never happens in history

Judging not from history but from storytelling, this is a VERY powerful depiction of Xerxes. I loved it. I watched the film "The 300 Spartans" made in 1962 and it was not as impressive as this terrific film.

Ngl when 300 came out and I saw Xerxes, kinda got a movie crush. Rodrigo is already super attractive, but man did they made that god-king gorgeous. The voice, too. He could stand behind me with his giant 7' hands on my 5'9" shoulders any day hahaha.

Now Barbarossa dying on his way to the crusade, that DID end it for the Germans as everything depended on him alone, mind you the kings of that time was completely different from the lords of Greece.

...in real life...the hero and the villain looked very similar... so visually you must have CONTRAST..look at the character in the book...he looks AFRICAN...he actually looks like ME...lol....the hero and villain are always visually opposite of each other...

Just about the entire movie was filmed in a Warehouse in Montreal,Canada. The only scene that was really filmed outside was when The Persian Messenger and the other Persians are riding on horses to Sparta(and according to the director,Zack Snyder,that was only because they couldn't film galloping horses inside a warehouse).
Rodrigo Santoro is such a great actor, I think Hollywood should give him the recognition he deserves.
