TestDisk is a powerful free data recovery software! It was primarily designed to help recover lost partitions and/or make non-booting disks bootable again when these symptoms are caused by faulty software, certain types of viruses or human error (such as accidentally deleting a Partition Table). Partition table recovery using TestDisk is really easy.
TestDisk can
* Fix partition table, recover deleted partition
* Recover FAT32 boot sector from its backup
* Rebuild FAT12/FAT16/FAT32 boot sector
* Fix FAT tables
* Rebuild NTFS boot sector
* Recover NTFS boot sector from its backup
* Fix MFT using MFT mirror
* Locate ext2/ext3 Backup SuperBlock
* Undelete files from FAT, NTFS and ext2 filesystem
* Copy files from deleted FAT, NTFS and ext2/ext3 partitions.
TestDisk has features for both novices and experts. For those who know little or nothing about data recovery techniques, TestDisk can be used to collect detailed information about a non-booting drive which can then be sent to a tech for further analysis. Those more familiar with such procedures should find TestDisk a handy tool in performing onsite recovery.

Worked for me... thanks for the info! As for the files being renamed, I just turned on the sort by Date Pic Taken to organize the pix into the correct order and then did a mass rename with Windows.

i recovered a disc, and have a lot of directories named: recup_dir.1 till recup_dir.420.
is there a way to get the original name of these files and the original root system?
and it seems like that nearly all files have been splitted to a lot of .txt files.
didn't found a solution on google or somwhere else. )=

Awesome... been searching a way to recover my disk content from the WD MyBook which died... I took my disk out and tried to load it up with Ubuntu via VMWare but couldnt find a way to browse and copy the content... until i found this...
very easy to use ( although the cmd line sounds daunting ) if you read carefully... I was able to install it while the video was playing... and was already copying 2 mins into the video. A life saviour! Thanks
absolutely fantastic. thanks so much, it works and it worked for me, i tried all sorts of places, software, but yours was truly so helpful and a million thanks again. i saved a terabyte of data i had lost by accident, it means so much to me.
How long did it take to save a terabyte? Scanning a terabyte drive now time stated is 2186hours but the drive only has 300gb of data used. I have tried loads of software but they either fail or complete and then ask for the big pay out. The reason for the recovery is a WD Passport drive which keeps loosing the man partition. Please tell me that i do not have to wait 2000 plus hours. Cheers

Hey, could you recall what was the issue you had with your sd card? were the files deleted/formatted or did they change into RAW format and you no longer can access the sd?

@@marshallhyasi6213 We were recording videos for our church and I was told to delete the first takes, so I formatted the SD card. Later we realized we needed those clips back but too late.. until I found this program. I knew the videos were still on there because they were at the end of the card and we started recording again at the beginning, but for some reason no other recovery software could locate them. I am very grateful for this program but hopefully I never end up in a situation in which I'll need to use it again lol

If you mean SSD Solid State Drive, unfortunately it’s not recoverable disk when something deleted from it it is deleted for ever there is nothing to bring it back, all these recoveries app and tips are for HDD drive.

yup, i tried Tesdisk, stellar data recovery free edition, and Recuva. I found these utilities appropriate for recovery.

Hi, I tried stellar data recovery free edition and Recuva to recover data from formatted pen drive. I retrieved data efficiently. In my case, these utilities worked.

It took 8 hours for me to get to this point where I can actually recovery my files.
Never take product advice for data recovery unless it is for a program you already knew about; I had used Testdisk in the past, but this time I wanted to try a nice and simple program that'd be just hit a button and go.
It took me quite a while to realize that there wasn't a data recovery utility in DriveImage XML. Although it can be a useful program, it wasn't.
I was straight up reccomended the Pareto Data recovery. People didn't mention the "pro" part in the name, and it threw up a paywall after it had taken hours to scan my drive.
At the current point of time, I've found some rather crazy photos; usually blurred up, small resolutions, and containing people I've never recognized.
All thanks to *brave_code* via Instagram he help me recovered all my missing files can't stop thanking him he is a genius

I have accidently formatted & partitioned my Seagate external hard drive while making a Windows 10 USB boot drive. My hard drive is 2 terabytes and all data lost. My AVCHD video & RAW Photo files are the ones I want recovered. Is this recovery software suitable for recovering AVCHD VIDEO FILES? Or is the "Kroll Ontrack EasyRecovery software" better?

Would this program work if the drive has been formatted with a hardware sampler that also uses FAT32 (the PC was formatted with Windows XP and some files added, and then mistakenly formatted with an Akai sampler, but no more data was added)

So I was trying to install Linux Mint Cinnamon on a already partitioned drive, but Linux either glitched out, or it was not showing me the proper drive. I noted the exact size on windows of this drive, and it matched in linux, but somehow, formatted another drive instead! So now using this program, I cannot see any windows anything, only shows as a Linux boot partition, which is odd because it never installed linux on it. Said there was a partition problem and to change/fix it in the partition menu. So not sure how this could of happened. Is there any way I can recover the drive???
