    Ciao y'all! My name is Kenya, and I'm an American living in Rome, Italy sharing my experiences and travels while living abroad. It is really difficult for a lot of people to live comfortably here because the average salaries are very low and the income tax is very high compared to the US. That is why a lot of Italians live with their parents well into their thirties.

    I am here at the South of Italy, so far I have seen that the majority of my friends teaching english they earn from 900 to 1200 per month after taxes. Engineer, 1500 euros. Researchers between 1000 to 1400 euros. People in tourism.. 900 euros. People working as waiter 20 to 30 euros per day. Flats are expensive due to tourism and airbnb. Thus people in their 40s still sharing a flat, or living with their parents. Young people work without payment in order to gain experience. They cant enter to some jobs without this experience, thus some companies or schools take advantage of this. I really do not understand how people survive or if they can save money.

    You're right, in Italy there's a lot of unemployment, specially in the South, where, in some cities, the rate is higher than 34% (in Sicily), but the situation in the northern Italy is a lot better, in some cities, like Brescia or Trent, the rate is less than 2%!
    Also the salary in the southern Italy is lower than the Northern, in Naples the av. salary is 21,000€ per year, and in Milan this is 75,000€, and in some neighbourhood is higher than 95,000€ (105,000$), a big difference!

    I moved to the USA from Italy and yes salaries in Italy are much lower but we should also consider what they pay in Italy with the tax deductions. For example healthcare. In the USA you make more money but the cost of a good health insurance in NY is about $1000. Ok some companies pay the insurance for the employee but people who own their own little company or work as freelance? It’s a lot also considering that insurances don’t cover everything.

    • @ANIAKARINA1000
      @ANIAKARINA1000 2 года назад

    When we talk about salary it's important how many hours in a month you work. Because someone can say his/her big salary and everybody like: "Wow, cool, you're so successful!" But maybe this person works 6 days in week, 12 hours a day😀

    • @NaturallyKenya
      @NaturallyKenya  3 года назад +2

    You need to earn at least €1500 or INR 1.25 lac per month (after tax) for a lower middle class life in Italy. Also poor job opportunities even for highly qualified graduates. Also the companies prefer Italians or Europeans, others have to work 2-3X harder for same opportunity. I would suggest going to an English speaking country with solid economy and lesser discrimination.

    I am first generation born and raised in Sydney Australia, but am of full Italian decent and go back every year to see family near Rome, and I can confirm that what you speak about living in Italy is all true from the pollution, to the attitude of Italians towards others, to driving insane, smoking, littering…. I feel bad saying it but Italy is not what it used to be, and is unfortunately going downhill fast… my advice as an Italian/Australian is to go spend some time in Istanbul Turkey and see the chasm of difference there. Its the opposite and the euro is 10 times the lira so it’s dirt cheap but an amazing lifestyle.
    Remember Istanbul was in ancient times the Roman Empire also! Its a blend of so many ancient and powerful empires all blended into one and has literally thousands of years of history.

    There is no paradise on Earth guys every country has its own problems. I still believe that Italy has lots of quality that many other countries doesn’t have, from family values, rich culture, organic food, great sceneries, even the commute system and health care system are more advanced than many other countries including the U.S.
    for example in U.S even if you make more money, you are still paying higher health care, dental care is crazy high. Rent takes 70% of your salary and or mortgage. So all depends on each personal situation and it’s not bible.

    Italy has a lot of positives. But it seems the south is a bit neglected. When you consider gas, energy, insurance, housing and food it would be pretty hard to exist comfortably with those salaries. However I do have to admit many Italians are very lovely people who do their jobs incredibly under these conditions. Life isn't always about money. Unless you make it such. Good info thanks.

    Italians work 48 hrs a week? Does it include the so-called mandatory "siesta"?? This tradition is apparently still common around rural areas and small towns. If You take into account the fact that they work 8hrs a day + 1-2hrs of siesta, that would make sense. Siesta is not included in a daily wage, right? That would be crazy. :)
