In general in Italy 80 per cent of the population owns the house and a great part of it has got a second one. Life is expensive above all in big cities, bur if you choose to live in smaller towns or villages it is cheaper to live. Salaries vary: it depends on the job you do. Despite all in Italy we live well. Nice video
Around 50% own their own home in Sweden but many people are happy to rent an appartment especially when heating, water a free collective laundry room will be included.

I guess your flatmate is not an engineer.. =) Btw, 1.5k is 30% of 5k a month, which is not something you can make in Milan, unless you have a very high position. In Germany, if you are a skilled worker (not even manager manager), 5k is quite well achiavable in states like Bayern or Baden-Wüttemberg. That's why many skilled people move to Germany. And also because univiersities are free.
Other than that, I would prefer living in Italy!
Ps: It would be good a video to show the differences between the city center and a suburban area 10 min away by metro: prices are hugely cheaper, some times even half.

I'm currently living in the States in Ann Arbor by the University of Michigan and I would say the rent here is more expensive for an apartment to live in alone. They're ranging from $1,300 and up. When it came to the food prices in Milan I was shocked things were that cheap. Here to get a package of organic tomatoes it's like $4.99. But when it came to wages in Milan I think people here in Michigan can make more as servers or baristas. I am planning to move to Milan soon with a friend so this is all very good information to be aware of. Grazie Mille Eli!!!

Esselunga is one of the most expensive supermarkets for sure, however high quality is guaranteed; so, u pay for what u get :)

@@angelinabetty Esselunga it's not one of the most expensive , it depends what you buy and they often have a lot of stuff with discounts (there you can pay a little more than usual but you can also pay less). In Italian supermarkets you pay more or less the same, unless you go in the so called "Discounts" (like lidl, eurospin, todis, fresco, etc) where prices are cheap but they often don't have big brands stuff (only the basics like nutella, coca cola etc) and often the stuff you buy is low quality (but not everytime)...If i can give an advice just DON'T go to Carrefour...they ARE expensive without reason.
I live in New York City right now but I'm moving to Milan for university in the fall, I'm gonna save so much money living there! 18 euro's for groceries!?!? In New York for that much, it's like $50-60!
I live in Milan with my boyfriend for 3 years and we both work ( he's an engeneer) The groceries she bought in this video are not enough for 1,2 days, so I just wanna say if you do full grocery shopping once a week as we do (and we choose only products in offer) you'll spend 70-80euros per week. The appartment costs realy depends on the part of the city you're at, and usualy is better to be far away from down town but still good connected by trains. Monhtly cost of light, gas and water goes up to 200euros... If you're alone, it's hard, if you're in a relationship where both have good jobs, you can live normaly and save a lot if spending smartly! :) Just wanna add that Milano is full of south people, for obviuos reasons, for example in Naples avarage paysheck is around 500euros and there's no job offers, so EVERYONE comes to North.

The gross average annual income in Milan is 34K €, excluding taxes it is around 24k €.
My home in California I purchased for 1.1 million dollars ( it’s now worth 1.5) .. the apartment I rent in Firenze is 1280€ a month including utilities . It’s right in the center for Firenze . Currently in the United States, renting a apartment has skyrockets in my city of Newport , the cheapest apartment would cost you about 3,000$ a month for a studio or small 1 bed room apartment. I’m 28 years old and love traveling . Nice France I rented an apartment by the ocean for 1500€ a month . They had cheaper prices but I wanted something nice. Paris however is probably the most expensive apartment I’ve rented . It was 2800€ a month but it was well worth it .
Those crazy prices make high salaries meaningless.

it's definitely expensive than my home country (delhi, India), here we can get a month's worth of groceries in INR 5,000 (ie: 70 euros)
Hello, there is an inconsistency between the cost of living and the average salary in Milan. In reality, the average salary in Milan is 2,600 euros per month ... The highest salaries are in Rome because the city is more touristy and therefore much more expensive than Milan to find accommodation.

Official statistics confirm that in Italy (overall) the average salary is €1.600 (not 2,600) GROSS. Also, average is always influenced by extreme values (eg. a few people earning 6 figures salaries drive the whole average up). One should enquire about the 'MEDIAN', not the average!!

If you are a student and have DSU scholarship and your age is above 27, is there any discount for transportation?
In Milano is more less for those born in Milano. Anyway 900 euro for one apartment is realy too much. There are offers for student. Call Arci association, or my wife ,she's municipal councilor. Good luck.
I live in Milan and the average price for a room in a shared apartment is 700€/month. If you want to rent a 1 bedroom apartment it costs around 1200€/month. Salaries for junior people (1-3 years of experience) are around 1500€/month. Milan is a very expensive city for the salary you get

In America people are paid way more, but life isn't cheap and there's no nationalized health care or free universities.
Rent or mortgage can take 50%, 70% or more of people's salary.
I will say that most people rent or pay a mortgage.

How many times can you use the monthly ticket?
In Sweden the average salary is 2500€. Taxes 30% in average drawn from that. I earn 3200€. My rent is 400€ for a one room and kitchen flat. Heating, water and a free collective room included. Food is more expensive than Milan but not so much compared with the things you bought. Public transports 960€/month but then you can use any transport like in Russia and Milan. A pensineer can get 550€ from the municipality if the pension is low to cover the rent. Scools are free including univercities. Healthcare will cost 40€ for a visit in the emergency room but after 120€ (within a year) it will be free the rest of the year. Subsdidised dental care and medicines. In Sweden rents are 30% cheaper than in USA, water and electricity too.
And yes the first national bank in the world was started in Sweden. We have the 28th largest lake in the world Vänern which is the biggest lake within EU. I live in the Stockholm region.

Sweden is the 5th biggest country in Europe after Russia, Ukraine, France and Spain! Norway comes on the 6th place and is also the longest country in Europe!
Hi Ulf - cant believe that in sweden is average salary "only" 2500 EUR before taxes when everything there is soo f-cking expensive... (32 EUR for cheapest hostel bed in shared room in whole Stockholm, very expensive retaurants, markets..) I was realy shocked when I was 3 years ago in Stockholm and than in Malmo(wanted 2 C the bridge) - so that means that average net in come in Sweeden is some 1670 EUR ??? How can you even survive there when the prices there are so rockethigh???
compare Prague average is 1646 EUR, taxes are 15%, small 1 room appt is 400 EUR sigle rent plus utilities on the suburb
Healthcare is mostly free (insurance), Hospital emergency evening/night and weekend "entry ticket" from machine on the wall is 3,8 EUR (90 CZK), medicaments in pharmacies partly payied by patients, Free schools, very cheap Prague public transport 1 year pass = only 146 EUR (=0,4 EUR /1 day) compare 1 day ticket 5 EUR/ 30 min ticket 1,2 EUR/ 90 min 1,6 EUR
@@johnnygomez7063 A lot of people earn 3000€ a month. Insurences are always more costly than taxes. Food cost the same as in USA if you will add the sales tax and tips. Stockholm is more expensive than most places but you can get a 2 room appartment for 700€ in the center almost. You can get a hostile for 25€/night. Finland double price. Many people get extra payed for uncomortable hours. 2500€ is only a average incom with no extras. Food around 300€/month in average.

Ye Milano is very expensive, especially if you are a student. You can’t be poor. And btw Massimo Dutti is a Spanish brand (part of Inditex group) ;)

It was sooo great. But if 30% of your income is 1500 then totally will be around 4500
If you move to the suburbs, prices are much lower, especially food.
@@ElifromRussia I live in the suburbs (Gorla) and it takes 10 minutes to go to Duomo by undergound. By the way, there are plenty of places to hang out here.

The average salary he mentioned is not correct I think. With that amount it is not easy to live in Milan.
Milan is cheaper than Sydney and most of Australia. But I would not say it was cheap to live over there. The purchasing power of the locals sounds limited.

As someone who lives in stockholm. I'm kinda surprised how milan have more or less similar prices as here, altough the avrage salaries in stockholm range from 2500€ to 4000€. Can you really live comfrotable in milan with 1300€? 1600€? and if not is 2100€ even enough???
Since the average salary in Milano is 1500 Euros, it is impossible to rent a studio by yourself, right? So, most people would share apartments?
That's applicable to students or in general young people who want to live in the city center.
Normally people would live in areas close to metro stop (10/20 min from city center) and pay an average 650/800 Euros a month for 60 SQM

On the contrary, I am extremely happy that I left Russia 💃 And I guess, you are happy to start your education in Italy and see the huge difference between education of Italy & Russia. Omg. That is considered very cheap compared to living in the U.S. For example, to rent a 3bed 2bath apartment per month in San Jose, California is about $4000 USD. It gets even worse when you want to buy a house in San Jose, California. The average price to buy a 3bed 2bth 1300 square foot house in San Jose is $1.5 million USD!! Also you are not getting new house for that price. It is very old house built in 1960s -1980s.
The salary are very low to live. If you don't have your own house is very difficult survive
